I love PB.

Specs - GOOD.
Brand - BAD.

Who to believe, klopikxda or MiiCK?

SaveOnLaptops seems to have the same one with 8GB RAM for 50 more, is that a better or worse deal?

saveonlaptops.co.uk/Pac…tml

Why do people not like PB?

There are people who hate every laptop brand - it's rarely based on facts or logic, and I'd be shocked if the person above had a remotely valid reason for determining that the entire PB brand is "bad".

With the 4GB one, it says they'll give you another 4GB stick for £20 but you have to fit it in yourself which is an extremely simple task.

For about £50 less, there is an ex-display PB with half the hdd space but with USB 3.0

Personally I wouldn't trust reviews put on reevoo.

Packard Bell's are now all rebrands of a cheap Chinese/Taiwanese chassis. The specs good but don't expect much from build quality, it will be built to a tight budget.

No.... it's not. They've never had anything to do with HP. They are owned by Acer.

Absolute nonsense. Both factually and grammatically.

Depends what are you intentions with the item. If you are using resource demanding/hogging programs such as CS5 Premier Pro etc then you'll appreciate the extra RAM but in my view 4GB is enough even excessive to run windows smoothly.

Gotta cut down on expenses to lower costs of production and lower the price for consumers somehow if you wanna sell a lot

Seems OK.The only problem is if it were to go wrong.Rather buy from a reputable company i know will offer a good after sales service.

Mmmm. I posted a very similar deal from Sainsbury and only got 70 degrees! Go figure

But don't Dell or HP have the best support? If something goes wrong how long does Packard Bell turn around any fixes?

great spec for the money. the build quality won't be great but look after it and it should last years. treat it badly and it'll fail just outside of warranty.

I have been most impressed with ASUS laptop warranty, I sent them an email saying it was broken in a couple of hours I had an email back saying we'll pick that up tomorrow.

Toshiba are good, it goes back to Germany for servicing. I'm seeing lots of Toshiba laptop hard drive faults however.

Lenovo are also good not a bad thing to say about them.

I have bad experiences with this company. Avoid

Bad experiance with PD and their build quality is not good. They have higher return rate as well !
Good spec. but not that great brand.

after a new laptop but unsure to take the plunge on this one, not keen on PB but specs seem good for the price

i prefer toshiba if want specs and quality. if i want specs i prefer acer. if i want build quality and have bath of money id choose sony or apple.

Help!!! I am after a cheap laptop that is purely for surfing the Internet and occasional downloading and online poker playing but am clueless on technology! Any recommendations please? Under £250??

A friend of mine had a PB laptop that had network problems after only a few weeks of buying it, it was sent for repair 3 times, but never came back actually repaired.
He eventually got a refund for the laptop (although he had to pay the courier cost every time he sent it back, which they didn't refund).

Packard Bell are like an 'own brand', the build quality will be average but not stunning....so if you're paying anything but a bargain price I'd avoid.

"Both factually and grammatically" is not a valid English sentence. I hope that this has taught you a valuable lesson.

My experiences of PB have not been good.

I have had friends buy PB systems and when they develop a problem they had to ring a premium rate number to get support and spent ages on hold. Once they got through they had to send the systems back via courier but pay for the shipping, which they never got back. After 4 supposed repairs the system was still faulty and then PB claimed it was out of warranty.

Someone else used to be a driver for a courier company that delivered PB's and they used to joke with clients when they delivered "see you tomorrow". I believe that PB has one of the highest DOA rates and return rates under warranty.

Having sourced hundreds of laptops and systems I have never used PB and have only ever heard some real horror stories. One person even opened their own system and found blood splashed all over the motherboard where a builder had cut themselves on the case and done nothing about it.

Some systems when you open them up have soft edges on everything as if they have been punched out but then rounded off. Everything I have found inside a PB system when I have repaired or upgraded them has been razor sharp.

This is only my opinion and experience though. Someone else may have had a better experience.

Regards

Ian.

I know it's not a laptop, but I've got a PB HD monitor and it's excellent - it's exactly the same panel and insides as an Acer one just with a different bezel and stand to carry the PB logo. Not sure if it's the same with their laptops, but Acer monitors get good reviews.

I was interested but I have no ebay/paypal acount so I can`t buy it anyway. That`s a lost sale for them.
Why not allow payment by debit card ??????????

Create one then, takes around 10 minutes or less.

my first laptop was a PB and I must say. REALLY bad brand! hdd failure after a year, screen failure after 2 years, ram failure after 3.
ALSO It was bought in belgium and they refused to give me the 2 year warranty that is BY LAW provided there because their product only have 1 year warranty.

^ this.

Just make sure that whatever you get, you keep backups of everything that's important to you.

Another good deal, with the same money (after 7% Quidco cashback) here:

Fujitsu A531 laptop: Intel Core i5-2450M (2nd Gen), 750GB HDD, 6GB RAM

Do the buttons on the mouse pad click? I hate laptops with mouse buttons that you don't feel that you've presses anything.

HOt stuff.
Heat added.

Obviously a deliberately ironic example of bad grammar. Hope dashed.
