For those in the market for a machine that offers the conveniences of a netbook (i.e. long battery life and great portability) and the power of a proper laptop then this could be your machine. I bought a netbook today, then wondered into Staples and saw this beauty. Decided to return the netbook I bought after I saw this beauty. Had a little play with it and trust me it's a lovely machine. It's really sleek like netbooks and weighs pretty much the same. Generally netbooks are 1.25 to 1.5kg. This machine is 1.5kg, so no real difference there. Screen is also a bit bigger.

Quidco give an extra 7% off, making this £371. Personally, I think it's worth considering spending the extra money and get a proper ultra portable laptop./ I'm torn between getting this notebook for £371 (after Quidco) versus the Samsung N130 special deal refurb I saw on ebay (Argos Clearance) for £179.

Processor Speed 1.3GHz?

Original Poster

Anyone got any better suggestions for an ultra portable laptop with battery life around 7hrs? Seems to me like an attractive option at this price.

Processor Speed 1.3GHz?

The Intel® Celeron® SU743 Processor is a dual core processor with FSB speed of 800 mhz. Trust me this runs a hell of a lot faster than a single core atom (which runs at half the speed of the equivalent single core celeron with same clock speed ... so with this being a dual core celeron, it's pretty nifty for the purpose intended). 1.3Ghz is more than sufficient for an ultra portable, and is energy efficient.

That looks rather delicious. Why are netbooks so popular when you can get a proper ultra portable laptop with long battery life like this one for £50 to £100 more?? I see quidco also give 5% cashback for carphone warehouse, making this £284.05, which seems like an awesome price.

Bear in mind this has no bluetooth, and from a review it's clear it also has no optical drive, which is a bummer.

Does that machine have a 6-cell battery?

6hr battery life so i would have thought it was a 6 cell. Been toying with the idea of getting one myself.

This celeron is NOT dual core.

I bought a Dell Mini 10V netbook for £160. I don't see any deals on Ultra-portables for the same price. Each to their own.
