Pretty good price for a 1080 right now.

Details;
GeForce GTX 1080 Dual 8192MB GDDR5X PCI-Express Graphics Card
NVIDIA’s flagship GeForce® GTX 1080 is the most advanced gaming GPU ever
created, powered by the high-performance, energy-efficient new NVIDIA
Pascal™ architecture. Pascal enables truly game-changing performance
with captivating sights and sounds, as well as next-generation VR
performance that offers the lowest latency and plug-and-play
compatibility with leading headsets.

NVIDIA Ansel Technology exclusive to 10 series allows you to grab a
screenshot in supporting games such as The Divsion and upcoming Unreal
Tournament from any 360 degree position, ability to increase resolution,
use cool filters so that you can screenshot those perfect headshots and
view them in a full 360 degrees.

NVIDIA VR AUDIO Works Technology exclusive to 10 series is interative
audio so realistic path traced audio meaning sound bounces off objects
just like it would in the real world further improving the gaming
experience on the audio side.

NVIDIA GeForce 10 series is based on 16nm finfet architecture resulting
in just 180W TDP power consumption for a graphics card that can
outperform Titan X in many situations whilst being upto three times more
efficient. Overclocking headroom is also exceptional with around 2GHz
core overclocks being possible (not guaranteed) resulting in 20% and
higher overclock potential.

NVIDIA Simultaneous Multi-Projection Technology renders multi screens in
one path mean performance in Virtual Reality titles on VR headsets such
as HTC Vive and Oculos results in double the performance of Titan X
making 10 series the King of Virtual Reality and whilst being upto three
times more efficient at the same time.

In English: "When a Bitcoin was $20,000, top graphics cards were $1000. When Bitcoin hits $2000, they will be $100."

Still completely untrue, but at least it should make sense to you!

The bumhole
I'll pass, the market will be flooded soon enough then we will see the btr than launch prices we deserve after 2 years on the same bloody architecture.

Maybe ngreeda will get off there lazy a**es and do something other than 1060 3gb/5gb 1070ti n jedi/sith rofl gpu nonsense.

Next thing we know the mainstream 1160 will be £275+ slowly creeping up all the time, used 580 card for me F**k them.
This vs 1070 for 3d design? Going to be in a egpu enclosure?
New cards around the corner, worst time to buy a new one... for £500 you could get double the performance, look at the 970 to the 1070!

Well the 1070 is near double the 970 and was maybe £100 than the 970 release, do you follow PC hardware? Graphics cards are not like CPUs son.
Bitmain Eth ASICS around the corner, expect to see GPUs trickling in alot more now.

The 1070 tends to come out around 50% better in pure frame rate, depending on the game and settings.

1080p 2018? the 970 doesnt even have the vram to go above 1080p.

But even with 50% average from 1 gen for what £100 more since they rip our eyes out, is still worth it, so if the 1170 is 50% faster than the 1070 on average you can see where im coming from.

Buying a 1080 for £500 is just not worth it at this time in the game, i paid £650 for a 1080ti strix last june :\

Nvidia has nothing to do with any of this.

They cant control retailer pricing.

Yes, it has; look at the ethereum value chart for example, eBay is starting to become flooded with cards.
Edited by: "Scottc123" 8th Apr
If you don't need a card right away, hang on a bit. Price will drop further as demand for hobby mining drops. Industrial miners will mine away what ever the price of crypto.
Bitmain is about to bring the need for gpu ethereum mining to an end by looks from what reading. I'm no expert though
OP did you forget to include the £9.90 delivery cost?

So, you don't know what you're talking about. Historically, Ethereum has been the strength of AMD cards, with Nvidias strength being the Equihash coins.

Minings not going anywhere just yet, though it's long term future is debatable.

The 970 to 1070 was an outlier, though. I’ve not seen a performance jump that large from one generation to another since the 5800 to the 6800 cards, yonks ago.

15-20% seems to be the historical norm, and sometimes not even that, should we have any rebrands.

I’d like to be wrong, though.

I stand corrected!
Stupidly expensive for what they are. Don't get pc gaming at all.

You can buy an xbox one x and a ps4 for this price pretty much.

Total rip off.

Fair play. Some in this place have such a limited knowledge of cryptocurrency (which is fine) but pretend they know so much (which isn't)

The whole space is filled with uncertainty and unpredictability, for better and for worse. Anyone who tells you otherwise, including the press and those with an interest in seeing it fail, is just wrong.

Me? I think decentralisation in any form is the utopia I want. How we didn't learn lessons from the banking crisis of 2008 is just staggering to me.

I agree they are a bit of a rip off and I used to think the same after gaming on Xbox's and then getting an Xbox X which I sold. Consoles seem much better value for money but I will never go back to one after playing on decent spec pc's as when I have gone back to playing either fps or fifa on a console it looks and runs terrible. 1440p Ultra settings 130fps average battlegrounds, 1440p Ultra 280fps Fifa 18 looks great. If you go back to console afterwards the difference is massive and to me is worth the extra cost. My PC cost 3 times as much as Xbox X but gives 3 times the performance or more so maybe gaming PC's value for money isn't as bad.

I assume the 1170 will equal the 1080 ti , bit like how the 1070 equalled the 980 ti. All at less power draw.

But it's up to Nvidia I guess.

I sold my 1080 for an Xbox one X. The X is great but do miss having a silky smooth FPS, cheaper games and the flexibility, Xbox is better for HDR though which is why I sold my 1080 (kept having to tweak settings)

But when Nvidia finally release their next card then I expect it to blow the X out of the water. Plus HDR is getting better on Windows all the time. Got a feeling my Xbox might end up on eBay

Maybe but we've been waiting ages for the 1170. After 3 years you would expect a much bigger jump in performance. I think the 1160 should offer 1080ti performance, whether it will or not is a different matter.

Except Nvidia already had the next gen in the pipeline. They won’t drop an increment just to offer a bigger jump.

You can also buy games for £50 a time on a console. Total cost of ownership is very different when you factor in everything.
