JUst realised that BT Shop is Dabs.com, or is that already something I should have known

Argh I just voted cold by mistake! (bladdy iphone!!)

Anyways this is a SCORCHING deal, luckily I've got a 4870x2 in mine so I'll hold out for now

What size power supply would we need to run this?

Here you go, a review focussing on power requirements.

Just to make you aware, this is the Palit GTX 460 1GB Sonic & not the Palit GTX 460 1GB Sonic "Platinum". My XFX ATI 4890 still whoops ass =).

Is this better than 4870 in crossfire?

thanks op, looks decent

The brand is PALIT.

Generally graphics cards of the same model are identical regardless of manufacturer, the biggest differences usually lie with the design of the heatsink & fan assembly, and the warranty.

The PALIT GTX 460 differs more than usual, with a slightly different PCB layout which allows the card to be around 2cm shorter than the nvidia reference board.
Initially there was some concern over the PALIT's omision of VRM heatsink(s), but they aren't the only manufacturer to have done this and nvidia didn't see the need for them either on the reference board.

Unless you are a hard-core overclocker, I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Can someone confirm something, I have a 450w PSU, which I THINK would be enough to power this... however, if I'm wrong, what will happen? Will it just not function, or will it run but cause my PC to crash when the the card is working hard?

you scoped out one of the cheapest 1gb versions, thanks! voted hot from me

I'm interested in getting 1 of these but my psu doesn't have any 6 pin connectors, only 4 pin molex would I still be able to use this card if I got a molex to 6pin cable?

Well really depends on the what rest of your system is like and how power hungry that is and what psu you have.

A generic 450w wont do but maybe a better branded or decent spec'd psu "might" do, i would run a 550w or something similar but 450w may be fine depending on your other specs; have to take into consideration the amperage on the 12v rails in the psu ect.

Pretty sure the computer would crash or something even worse you could damage the psu by overloading it. Doubt it though unless its a crappy psu.

If your psu doesn't have a PCI Express 6 pin connector then its probably not a very good psu or rather old because most if not all modern psu come with 6/8pin pci express connectors so i wouldn't run this card on it, otherwise feel like tangoing with death it comes with molex to 6pin pci express connectors.

I think it already comes with a molex to 6pin adaptor but i'd be cautious of using this card with a psu that didn't have such a connector out-of-the-box, as it might not provide sufficient amps on the 12v rail.

Just found the box for my psu and on the side it has the sli/pci-e 6pin boxed ticked so I should have that connection but how many of these connections will I need? The power output is 750w so would this be sufficient.

I believe it takes 2 6-pin 12V connections to power it. (above & beyond the power delivered through the pci-e port).

@TehJumpingJawa
yeah I think your right, I'll have to check I've to make sure I've got 2 of them and not just the 1.
Cheers

hi, can you tell it is quiet?

I also bought it. It is extremely quiet unless you use it under heavy load, then the fan gets faster and louder.

It doesn't automatically add the free delivery on mine? says £9.99?

Hmm, seems they've removed/fixed whatever deal/bug it was that was giving free next day delivery on almost all orders.

Cheapest delivery is now their economy 3-5 days @ £5.09. Shame

I'll update the deal.

:edit:

Still the cheapest on the net, but now only ~£7.

seems like a cracking price for easily the best value card on the market currently. these are fantastic overclockers as well so you should get at least another 50-100mhz out of the standard clock with that heatsink. if only i didn't buy the ssd which was posted a few weeks ago......

Not bad at all, think I'll stick with my 4870 for now though
