Been looking for deal for this new mobile smart phone for a while. O2 were selling it for £200 a while ago , then a few days ago they dropped the price to £149, then a few hours ago dropped it to free. If this is what you're looking for you'd better be quick. I know it's not protocol, however O2 are giving £50 quidco.
There are various tariffs, I chose £25 p/m deal, unlimited texts/data + 100 mins

blimey an amazing deal

Cheers, that's exactly what I thought.

Fantastic deal.
I started a contract on Virgin 2 weeks ago. but they have a 28 day customer satisfaction guarantee. Say the phone needs to be returned "as new". Does that mean I can send it back used as long as I still have all the accesories it came with?

Will definately be getting this if I can.

Dont they do the free O2 to O2 calls bolt on anymore?

Amazing deal btw
Did some googling looks like a replacement Plam Pre Plus is soon to be released, hence the price drop i guess.

A two-year contract with a phone that's already been upgraded in the States?

It seems that the modern take is that if you have used the phone to make calls etc, then it is no longer as new. Of course, virgin may not be quite so strict but it is the norm now.

Beware, unlimited data is more limiting than other networks, such as tmobile

Nice one

Not such a good phone from the general reviews. Add in a 2 year contract and the fact a new version is on the cards, I can see why o2 are looking to get rid of it. Sales have been very disappointing.

Not a good deal IMHO.

Naa! Palm pre? You must be having a laugh... It's not a new phone anymore really is it? 24 month contract? Cold for me. Got to move forward and look towards the HTC Desire!

Whoa this is a really good deal. Suprising for o2. I've been looking for a new phone for about 6 months now, i've stuck to my Sony ericson k810i on Orange pay as you go, but it's starting to fail on me (some keys not working).

But finally we are starting to see some real smartphones coming to decent price levels. Yes the Palm pre Plus is out (although even in the US both phones are still sold on different networks) the only thing it really adds is extra ram which allows more multitasking, i don't think it's a killer upgrade that stops this from being any less of a phone for the price.

Now I have an intreasting choice... The Pre on 02 or the Desire on Voda. Or maybe Orange will offer something when i call for a PAC code? I'm a big texter so the keyboard is a big plus. Need to think about this!!

Desire on the best network all day long!

Desire on the best network all day long!

What makes you think the Desire is all that great? Just curious. I will wait till it's out and i can see one, plus wait till there are some proper reviews around. o2 where always very good when i was on them about ten years ago, although Voda's data network seems awesome.

Although I haven't got this phone, I have used android based phones and I have found them to be really really good and only getting better! HTC and android coupled up together really has worked! For example the hero! Awesome phone!

From the specs the htc desire is really IMHO desirous!

(Also o2 seemed back then the best but after using vodaz service I really think they're excellent!)

The "Plus" version in the states is for Verizon who don't use a GSM network. The upgraded Pre you speak of CANNOT work in the UK on any of our networks.

This Pre is the only, and latest, compatible with GSM (i.e. o2, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone in the UK). While there are rumours of a Plus GSM version, nothing is confirmed.

Poor deal.

Spend a bit more and buy the Iphone or Desire. The Pre has been a sales disaster in the UK.

Phone is terrible. Read reviews all over the web before you splash on this.

The pre may have been a sales disaster in the uk but that does'nt mean it's a bad phone. I love my blackberry phones but also really like my iphone so the pre for me was the perfect thing to go for cus i get the best of both worlds. A nice little keyboard and a great touchscreen. I upgraded a couple of weeks ago. The only thing that lets the phone down is battery life and the lack of paid apps (soon to change at the end of march). Apart from that it's a great phone.

I have got to say tho that these 2 year contracts are a joke now with any phone. No phone is going to stay the latest model for 2 years is it! It's the same with the iphone. People how signed up for the 3gs will want the next iphone when that comes out but are stuck in contract so without paying silly money you cant get out.

£25pm is only 100 minutes in addition to the 'unlimited texts' and data.

I think you would be better off with one of the new HTC phones due out in April on a TMobile contract - 600 mins, 500 texts and unlimited data for £25 per month, £5.99 for the Desire. If that tickles your fancy that is.

i returned one to virgin 2 weeks ago, id used it to make some calls. As long as theres no marks on it and it comes in all its original packaging they will accept it. call them on 789 and they send out a prepaid special delivery envelope for you to post it back to them.

it seems a hot deal, but remember to see what apps are available, im not that up on the phone, but remember its the after market apps that make the phone

hmmmmm.... bad news for Palm Pre then?

The Palm Pre might not stack up to the other smartphones on the market, but with this deal it seems to be well worth it.

I've only seen v good reviews for this phone....

Really?

The Pre isn't as well built as the iPhone, and it's App Catalog (sic) is very lacking at the moment, but WebOS is widely acknowledged as being very slick and by far the best of any of the different phones for handling multitasking and notifications.

Basically, the phone is great but severely lacking in apps (paid ones haven't even launched yet in the UK!).

I had genuinely considered getting a pre but decided it was just a bit too small for me. I have an hd2 on a 12 month contract. that'll do for me - great phone, great OS and I don't feel I've had my eyeballs taken out at £40 a month

I'm curious... the iPhone hasnt been mentioned at all in this thread. Why is the Desire better than the Iphone?

Pause, Play, Shuffle - I think as long as a music player can do that then it's pretty much met expectations.

Apps - I don't think the Android marketplace has as many fart apps so that might make it worse:thinking:

fart applications are important

I mean iFart, iBeer, iPiss, iCan go on!

I have had the Nexus one and the iphone. The iphone has better apps and is still a more fluid os.
android has some very good apps though and the OS is very good.
windows 7 is also looking excellent.

It'll be a three way battle by the end of this year which is good for us consumers, if it wasn't for the shrinking pound!

They each have their strengths. The HD2 is the best for internet browsing but as a day-to-day phone it's a bit too big and the OS is too glitchy.

The iPhone has the smoothest interface and the best Apps library but is aesthetically boring and lacks multitasking.

An Android phone can have the best of both worlds if you get the right one.

The Palm Pre is badly made, has a stupidly small keyboard to the extent of being pointless and a poor Apps selection.

100 mins for £25 are you having a laugh? I just got a Nokia 5800 Chrome for £5 per month for 1st 12 months and £10 a month for 2nd 12 months - 100mins 100text plus any booster pack with T-Mobile + 8gb card + 50 free music downloads.

The best I believe - 3gb and doesn't matter if you go over as long as its not all the time.

3 however is 1gb. If you go over its £1 per mb or £1000 a gb - ouch:x
