Cheapest I've seen the Panasonic 40" GX-800B. It comes with the standard 5 year John Lewis guarantee. Yes, it's expensive for a 40" TV, but if you're limited for space, this is one of the top rated TVs at this size. Plenty of 5 star reviews, including What HiFi, TechRadar, Trusted Reviews, etc.

Nice video review here from HDTV Test:

The marketing blurb:
Panasonic’s GX800 displays an exceptional 4K HDR picture, powered by the Hollywood Cinema Experience processor. The brand’s HDR Bright Panel Plus reveals every glorious detail of 4K resolution. Multi-format HDR gets the best out of 4K streaming services and Blu-rays, and Dolby Atmos sound is cinematic and immersive. Its customisable Smart Platform brings you a wealth of online apps, including streaming services Netflix and Amazon Prime Video in 4K.*

HDR with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision
HDR deepens your view and shows shades previously unseen in home entertainment. Panasonic’s HDR Bright Panel Plus supports all HDR formats including HDR10+ and Dolby Vision so you'll always get the full HDR treatment.

4K Ultra High Definition
This 40” screen has four times the number of pixels than 1080p Full HD TVs, delivering stunning realism, natural motion and incredible detail.

Features:

HCX Processor: tuned by a Hollywood colourist, Panasonic’s Hollywood Cinema Experience processor gives blacker blacks, whiter whites, lustrous contrast, and a wider colour range that does true justice to the film-makers' vision.

Sport & Game Modes: specially tailored viewing modes to immerse you in the drama of the sporting spectacle, and to deliver a super-responsive gaming experience.

Dolby Atmos Sound: get more immersed in your entertainment’s audio with the cinematic, three-dimensional sound placement of Dolby Atmos.

Local Dimming: adjusting light output in different areas of the screen independently gives deeper blacks contrasted with brilliant luminance.

Wide Colour Spectrum: Wide Colour Phosphor Technology covers over 90% of the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) standards, for a more natural and subtly-hued colour display.

Intuitive Smart Platform
‘my Home Screen 4.0’ provides quick and intuitive access to the content you want, with a huge variety of apps on a customisable home screen. Thanks. As you say, all the reviews and feedback seem good on this one. Just ordered one of these for my dad. It's the price I was expecting to it fall down to next week so might as well grab it now whilst in stock plus JL usual price match within a week or so of purchase for something like this as well.

Agreed. I can't these sets coming down much further due to smaller TVs being a niche market these days. At least you're covered with JL if they do though, as you say. I'm sure your dad will enjoy the set if the reviews are anything to go by. I may end up pulling the trigger myself.

Ah, they've cottoned on. It wasn't that price earlier. Thanks for letting us know
I got the 58” version of this yesterday, extremely pleased with it in every way 🏻
I have this TV and highly recommend it to anyone who is currently on the fence. Picture quality is fantastic
I'm umming and erring over this or the 50" version for my bedroom TV. I know the 40" is probably better suited to the bedroom but will I really appreciate the 4K on it? Also it's only £100 more to get an extra 10"

Is the TV level on the stand or does it have a noticeable tilt?

I'd say that you'll definitely appreciate the 4k more on the bigger version. And you'll probably regret buying the 50" and thinking it's a little too big less than buying the 40" and wishing you'd bought the bigger set. Even with a 50" set, you still need to be sitting pretty close to fully appreciate 4k.

If you read the AV Forum GX800 club forum (link in the top post), a few people mention the tilt. However, it seems to be intentional design, perhaps to stop it from easily falling forward if it's knocked. Someone in that forum uploaded the official product sheet of the TV and it showed it with a slight tilt. I don't think it affects the viewing though
I’m interested in this, but keeping my powder dry until next week now.
One concern for me, is reading so many reviews that mention how bad the colours are when watching from any position other than straight on. It seems that watching even a slight angle presents noticeable problems.

There is a very slight tilt but I wouldn't describe it as noticeable.

Thanks for the input. Presuming you own this set, how do you find it? Would you say it's worth the premium price tag?

I think so. the picture quality is astounding. I'm not a TV expert my any means but the colours are vivid, the blacks are black and the picture is very sharp for both HD and 4K content.

One thing I would flag is that the screen is very glossy and reflective - something to bear in mind if the TV will be in a room with lots of ambient light.
If any ones interested in a refurb set with 12 months warranty can pick this set up for £360.99 from the Panasonic outlet store on Ebay, using the 5% off code PICKME5.

Here.

I'm pleased to hear the reviews are right about this set. Thanks for this
