Panasonic 40" Ultra HD 4K HDR TX-40EX600B £279 @ Sky accessories

During my research for a budget 4K small 40-43” TV. I came across this deal via Sky. Reviews and spec seem good especially for the price.

For the wider colour gamut you are looking at around £120 more. Which again has mixed reviews for the overall HDR quality compared to larger £800+ screens.

So I think overall for a budget tv this price is good. As far as I can see don’t need to get any codes nor be a Sky Customer. Could be wrong with the latter.

Perhaps Richer Sounds can price match?

Here’s some initial impressions after about 4 hours of playing...

Bare in mind I have a high end (was £1300 in the sale) 1080p 55” TV and one of the first 4K 49” non HDR LG TVs to compare with.

I’ve downloaded some 4K content to try out. Not sure if the rip quality is perfect but I had mixed results using VLC player via a MacBook Pro. Then again I read the Mac Pro can not produce true 4K HDR vis HDMI.

So I moved on to the Xbox One S. Set the display up and tried a UHD Blu-ray. It looks nice a sharp. A little noisy. The colours didn’t pop but the film is old. Independence Day. I have more UHDs on the way.

Netflix and Amazon UHD content. This was via the Xbox Apps not the TVs Apps. This is where I got to see the quality stand out and the HDR. It impressed me. Started to feel like a was actually seeing a better image quality and colours than my 1080p and the non HDR 4K I have.

I then had a quick blast on Forza Horizon 3. Everything looked okay. But you can really see the graphics are not as good as the Xbox One X.

I then smashed on the PC. Set up the desktop. Lovely bright screen. Lots of real estate. So far so good. Put on YouTube to try out some 4K HDR videos. Now this is where it blew me away. Almost Crystal clear quality and vibrant HDR. Not far away from the £1500+ QLED! My PC/Browser did struggle to stream the YT clip. It got choppy so will look into figuring away around that.

I then tried a 4K Movie Rip I had and it looked very sharp. A little noisy but that can be adjusted. Only issue I’m having now is it is so clear that even the latest CGI is becoming obvious and fake looking haha.

I tried some PC games. COD: WW2, Witcher 3, Mafia 3 and Star Citizen PTU. All looked lovely but the current GPU installed struggled with FPS. My GTX 970 will be replaced in the next few days with a GTX 1080. So this will help.

I have not used the smart or network features yet. As they are not needed for my purposes.

Overall, I am looking forward to watching some UHD Blu-Rays and downloading some perfect 4K HDR rips to see what she can do. Then try out some MacBook 4K Video Editing and Photoshop. More PC gaming when the new GPU is in.

The legs are wide apart and not adjustable but lucky my desk is wide enough. Speakers seem decent enough. No worse than the other two TVs.

I was worried the 4K wouldn’t impress me and the HDR would be weak on a budget TV. But I was wrong. It might not be a QLED or OLED for £1500+ but for £279 I am very very happy and impressed.

Looks Like a good deal 🏾averages £379 everywhere else. Quidco £3 cash back every little helps
This or 43UJ651V? I like the fact I can get freesat on the LG. Thanks all and thanks to op for posting... Spoilt for choice!
Richer sounds do price match if it comes with minimum 5 year guarantee or you need to add that to the price.

Crap support from Panasonic though. Freeview play no longer working on all channels and zero firmware updates from them.

Ah. I doubt Sky will provide 5 years guarantee. So price match a no go then.

That’s no good. But I guess I will literally be using it for console/pc so not bothered about smart features. For £279 I would take the risk of any issues down the road.
Pity you can only get 4K on your main box, otherwise I'd have this for the bedroom in a shot.

Yeah it’s a shame they don’t. Still. Gaming for me and maybe try out a few UHD Blu-rays.
Looks like a good deal - £100 cheaper than other stores (without the extended guarantee offered there, of course).

Could always put the difference towards soundbar/speakers, which would make for a much better TV system than buying this at its normal price.

I’ve ordered one. Sky says up to 7 days delivery. But it’s free. I’ll let everyone know what the TVs like.
I was probably going to buy the EX700, which seems to be the same except for a few features, according to this site:

"This is the entry level for 4K. The EX600 has the same brightness as the EX700 – about 350 nits – but loses out on on the advanced local dimming tech. You also lose out on the wide colour spectrum."

The EX700 also has marginally higher refresh (1600 Hz, as opposed to 1300 Hz), although the panel itself is still going to be 50 Hz. It is also £135 more expensive than this deal.

Yes that is the one I was recommended for a slight improvement on HDR. But from the reviews the difference is not light and day. I’d rather save £120. This isn’t my main TV so for a little gaming room TV it will be sufficient I’m sure.
I have this tv and can’t believe how good the 4K content on Amazon Video, YouTube and Netflix all look. Great to have those 4K apps built in. Also looks great with the PS4 pro. Paid £10 more than this for mine and will be keeping it a long long time. If it’s your first 4K tv then you will really enjoy it!
iPlayer app will be showing World Cup games in 4K I believe. The FA Cup final seemed very crisp when they trialed it then
Looks good but gone for the LG one.

Awesome to have an owners view on it now. Cheers.

No problem. My one issue was there’s no central stand for it. But I walk mounted it instead in the end! I’m really happy with it. Went on YouTube - first hit up 4k Gk Pro footage of snowboarders. Unreal that this is a budget TV! Then check out 4K clips by The Slow Mo Guys. It’s beautiful

I’ll be sure to have a good play. I thought it had an adjustable stand?
Will this run Plex?
thanks for this

Maybe this isn't a REAL Panasonic set, if you know what I mean.

Maybe it's one example of those famous brands that farm their name out to the likes of Vestel to try to fool buyers into thinking they are getting a top brand TV.

AFAIK, Samsung and Sony do this with their low end tvs, Panasonic probably do it too.

Hence the crap updates, cos Panasonic aren't doing it.

Possibly. But as long as the picture produced is good. That will do me. Smash it on the PS4/Xbox/PC. Job done.
Thanks again op ordered one earlier 🏾

No central option on this one. You’ll need the 700 model for that.

With this one the stands are at both ends of the tv. You can rotate them to point out instead of in. But no central option at all.
Excuse my ignorance is this a smart tv as well?

Strange. The Panasonic site lists this model as having the ‘switch’ stand. Hmmm

Nope. This is a Panasonic set. No Vestel parts. And Samsung and Sony have never had any Vestel sets.

Vestel do make sets for Sharp, Toshiba, Panasonic, JVC and a lot lot more, however.

Looking at the unit now. There’s only spaces for the stand to fit on the ends. It’s just the way the legs point essentially. There’s two ways they fit. Nothing central.
Ordered. Thanks op. Great find!

Yes Plex now been added to all Panasonic Smart TV from 2014 models onwards.

Looks like its a browser based version as I could see some scroll bars on mine but tested it yesterday and worked fine.

Yup same here and Xbox One X when I upgrade end of the year. Plus my PC haha
TopCashback £10.50 if you buy any Ultra HD TV from Sky Accessories at the mo. Just ordered mine, thanks OP.
I have this (paid 289 from rgb) and the legs are fixed.

If you want centred legs, then the rest of the EX600 series do accommodate this, as well as the EX700 / EX750 series.

Also confirm that any Panasonic tv's made below 40" (I think) are Vestal/UMC, but anything above is Panasonic all the way.
