I'm sure there are better players but I'm really pleased with mine. I've not watched all the films but I enjoyed American Made, maybe I'm easily pleased but I vote hot at this price 😁

Neither do most tvs these days, it's a dead technology.

Most tvs dont 2017+, but the projectors do, and there are hundreds of thousands of 3d/4k tv's out there, its far from dead there's still loads of upcoming movies and you can bet 3d without glasses is next, they have the tech, look for it around the same time as the avatar sequels

Xbox currently only supports dolby vision via streaming, but there is a summer update to enable dolby vision to blu rays too. Its currently in beta I'm told.

After recent update to fix some colour issues, the S is easily as good as this quality wise for 4k playback.
Don't buy it. You'll regret it. 4K DEAD ON ARRIVAL

Funny.
I hear good things about Panasonic players. Just ordered a UB420 from Curry’s for £119 as it has HDR10+ support which is what Panasonic and Samsung TVs support instead of Dolby Vision.
I love it when people say ‘don’t buy as this is coming soon..’ (and that’s not a direct dig at the previous poster!!

Tech will continually keep advancing, so there’ll always be something better coming. If I never bought my first LCD, or then LED, or 4K TV in anticipation of 8k coming I’d currently be playing Pong on my Black and White beast listening to a Walkman (which doesn’t sound that bad actually!)

The more tech we buy, the more companies will invest into research to take our money again. Up to you whether you jump in or not, or when.

Rant over. Apologies!

heat good price, Not sure if this supports 4K HDR and Dolby HDR for those who have tv's that support that
Can this be made multi region

Can this be made multi region

Only dvd is hard region locked. Blu ray is easy to circumvent.

Panasonic players are always a solid choice. Don't buy them for smart TV features, but they are great at their primary function - playing disks.

Why not buy an Xbox? Is it’s 4K worse?

Why buy an Xbox if you don't want an Xbox? It's twice as expensive and more complex to use for playing disks. Lots of people just have no interest in gaming systems but want to watch films.

DVD playback is region locked in device firmware. You have no choice but to rip DVDs. (Perhaps you need to buy five dvd readers to cover all regions?)

But who would care about playing DVDs on a 4k player anyway? They look bad enough on HD sets...
Who buys blu rays anymore with now tv Netflix prime etc etc when do you have the time to watch them all you buy the dvd then the hd dvd then the blu Ray the 4K blu Ray really really watch a fil twice at most

Me
Netflix app on this doesn't output 24hz... ewww. 60hz stuttery for most content. So don't get this just for 4k Netflix.. better get a 4k Fire stick.

It’s funny I’ve been saying the exact same as you for years last time I watched a DVD was in the early 2000s. I bought my first expensive 4K TV middle of last year and have just this week bought my first 4K blu ray player to watch the Batman Animated series blu ray and Dark Knight trilogy 4K. it’s a slippery slope I fear I’m becoming one of those A/V snobs. I only intend to get the classics on physical media everything else I’ll stick to streaming as I rarely watch stuff more than once and already visit the cinema regularly.
I’m surprised people buy blue rays now, I’d have expected these to be redundant with on line streaming now ?
Bought one 2 years ago and it’s never used, other than to charge my remote.

If you want the best sound and best picture, You still have to go disc.

Streamed service gives you 5.1 lossy audio and 4k picture in a ~12 Mbit stream, the blu ray gives you lossless Atmos audio and a video stream in a 30+ Mbit wrapper. No contest, if you care about such things.

After all, this is why people buy cars instead of just using the bus all the time.
So people who use buses prefer a lower std of transport to those who have cars, there’s no other reason for using a bus ?
Can’t believe I’m even asking this question.

Atmos audio, lossy audio, 30+ mbit wrapper am I supposed to know what the heck your talking about.
Of course it’s better, just not many people buy them was my point, look at HMV sales.
But thanks for the education lesson.
Has anyone who’s ordered this received it yet? Or had any update on when it will be dispatched

Get them for same price, but get much better hardware and versatility.

Why buy a watch when you can have a smartwatch for the same price? Why buy a sports car when you can have an SUV for the same price?

And what's the point of buying a more complex device when the blu ray player is capable of producing 100% perfect functionality every time?

Choice, much?

Personally I can see that there is a market for both.

True, Xbox not as seamless as stand alone player but is better hardware and future proof. Horses and courses.
