I'm going to assume Panasonic don't make decent TVs anymore? I've got a Panny plasma from 2009 and finding it very hard to part with it.

My Pannys fine
The lower end Panasonic TV's are made in Turkey by Vestel. Basically stick on a Panasonic badge. They still manufacture their own higher end ranges.

I've got a 42 inch panny from 2008 and a 50 inch 3D panny from 2012 and they are still going strong. The HD is still brilliant, with the same screen as the Kuro £3k pioneer. So finding it hard to justify upgrading.

Still designed by Panasonic though, with Panasonic software.

The Vestel ones are 100% Vestel, just with a Panasonic badge.

I went from a Panasonic Plasma - which I also found difficult to part with - and went with the Panasonic GX800B (not the 700B listed, which is significantly lower spec) and I'm very, very pleased with it. It's £200 more than the OP's listing, but worth it. Great TV, very well reviewed too.

Nope. GX700 is Chinese manufactured and the software on the TV is made by a company not associated with Panasonic (I can't remember the name). They've tried their best to make it look like Panasonic software, but it is so painfully obvious when you fix them everyday.

The panel in the GX700 is the same as the GX800 and GX820, though.

GX680 and under are Vestel made.

Yes. It's designed by Panasonic, even if an OEM physically manufactures it. It isn't a mass-manufactured TV with a Panasonic badge slapped on, like the Vestel ones are.

I got theirs 50" plasma probably even older than 2009 and also can't part with it. I seen many LCD/led/oled/qled etc TVs over the years and not many of them are able to produce as good picture as Plasma. Sad story but plasma was always way better than LCD/led etc but manufacturing/transport costs and lack of good advertising/will to compete from Panasonic led to fall of this glorious tech.... Samsung and LG were producing Plasma TVs alongside Panasonic although loosing money on them cause they knew till the last moment it wa superior tech. Last models of Plasmas are holy grail and I remember them on auctions reaching silly high prices of few £K

No, it's not. That main board in that set (I had one opened the other day). Those PCB's come from China.

I agree with you that they're not in the same bracket as Vestel sets that are completely different in every respect, but to call this GX700 a unit designed by Panasonic is not true.

I'll have to contact my Czech factory contact at Panasonic to further investigate.

It boils down to this: Main PCB is most definitely not a Panasonic PCB . The PSU differs slightly to that in a GX700 (Even though they share the same panel). The panel on the GX700 is the same as on the GX800 and GX820. The software is completely different to that on a "proper" Panasonic. It is painfully obvious when you compare the two side by side.

Buyer beware, this isn't a true Panasonic.

Because they're amazing. I have a 42inch 3D plasma from 2013 and even though the 3D has crapped out the picture is far superior to my more expensive modern Panasonic. Only issue they tend to have is a bit of ghosting.
Had a 2009 42 inch Panny plasma give up the ghost a couple of months back. Lovely TV! No LED is going to compare to be honest but decided to upgrade to gx800 series (50" cost me 529 at richer sounds after some price matching over black Friday). Really good TV! Comes highly rated by pretty much everyone o spoke to. Reviews were excellent too. I couldn't justify a OLED just yet, so opted for this.

Panny still make great everything because Panasonic (along with Nichicon, Elna, Rubycon, Taicon and a few others) make the best electrolytic capacitors in the world. Thus panasonic equipment tends to be filled with mostly japanese made panasonic capacitors. Which is one of the rreasons their stuff lasts longer than other brands who use chinese caps to save money.. when a tv or computer or hi-fi component dies it almost always an electrolytic cap that has died. Panasonic caps can go 25 or more years. Maybe you'll get 3 to 15 from a Chinese cap.

Legs in that position look a bit odd but easier to fit on a stand, bezels are nice and thin too.

I have read a few reviews saying it's a bit slow to respond to the remote.

The GX800 has been on offer at £600 though and it's probably better paying more for that as it has more features like Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos.

Not many TVs can rotate these days that's true.

Plus a 5 year guarantee from Costco.

They may have some in store I believe.

I have one too smart tv 50 inch 3d plasma and the picture quality is bang on
I have an LG pk350 plasma. 10 years old in July. It was a birthday present from the wife. Its 1080p but not smart. I have an nvidia shield so dont need the smart functions.
People still comment how good a picture it is.
I will be sorry when that tv packs in.
Such a shame they stopped with plasma. I guess oled is the nearest equivalent

I have this telly, and 4K picture is great, but not in HDR. This Panel is way too dark for HDR - tried using it with XBOX one X, Netflix or UltraHD Blu Rays - HDR looks horrible. I also dont like the fact that it`s not playing half of my mkv movies from USB stick, which previous TV from Samsung never had an issue with.

Newer Samsungs have the same problem though and the added problem that they no longer support DTS either.

You have to use Plex.

Don't think there are any TVs at this price that go bright enough to show "proper" HDR.
