Bargain, need to buy a camera now

But can you trust a compatible battery in your camera? Modern high performance batteries seem to be pretty touchy. Over the last few years there have been incidents of fires and recalls (I think with phones and laptops but the principle remains the same).

Bargain, shame not for my camera.

Normal Price £7.39
Special Price £0.99

I like that one:

Lecia D-LUX

My no-brand battery still performs as well as the one Panasonic supplied after 3 years. They get used in rotation.

Just stating what is written on the website

Great, thanks

It's a shame this isn't the battery for the TZ range, that's what I was hoping for when I saw the title. Still, a great price for those with the right camera.

Does anyone know if it would work on FZ38? Thanks in advance

Hot from me, and I have a Sony digi camera

No, completely different shape.
The best I came up with was this twin pack here @ £11.99 from Amazon, 3 batteries will keep me going for some time I think.

Ordered thanks.

Genuine camera batteries are absurdly overpriced though, the manufactures are even chipping them to try to stop the use of compatibles, just like printer ink.

The fires and recalls in laptops that I've read about have all been with the genuine original batteries, and due to manufacturing or design faults.

The problem with compatibles is the capacity on the label is often a complete work of fiction, and you can't be sure if your getting a good one, that will hold a charge for any length of time, and still work after a handful of charges. And the problem with genuine ones, besides the rip-off pricing, is, because of the considerable mark up, that there's a lot of fakes about.

Genuine batteries have an obscene mark up, often costing 10 times what a perfectly good non-branded battery costs.
I have had good results with unbranded batteries in phones and my TZ3 camera, so I shall continue to buy the unbranded ones.
Also, if your camera manufacturer chips the battery either buy another brand of camera or check there are unbranded chipped batteries available.

and panny have locked down their newer ones like tthe tz10, tz18, tz20 so you cant use standard 3rd party batteries, tho im sure the 3rd party companies will soon get around this

They don't say whether these are chipped. If not, your camera won't work after a firmware update.
