Also let you know they had the Samsung BD-P1500 Blu ray player in for £99 too

Not being funny but could you post a picture of the receipt? Not voted.

Both the panny and the sammy are discontinued lines however both are v. good prices and much better than the TECHNIKA thing they sell.

I know that in Currys the BD30 is currently £179.97 at a "priced to clear" markdown an a quick price check on the web confirms this is definitely a good deal if it's true!

Stonking price. Why the doubters?

probably due to huge number of supermarket deals posted with little or no stock available, generally store specific

Its deals for low price items I don't understand. Who would make a special trip for some milk

Are you sure everyone here makes special trips for each deal?

brilliant price for an panasonic, would almost definatley buy if i didnt have a PS3

brilliant brand too, i rate panny over sony & samsung

Gonna check my local store tommorow, this seems like a great deal even if its soon to be replaced, ive read Which? and TrustedReviews articles which praise this player heavily

Worth noting that the DMP-BD30 does not decode TrueHD/DTS-HD internally, so unless you have an newer amp that the ability to take the HD bitstream then this wouldn't be ideal.

Theres reports here that the Sony BDP-S350 can be had for £99 at Tesco too, but I think must be store specific on these deals.

£139 in Chester store I think. These seem to be very store specific.

can these be made region-free?

is this model able to have its firmware upgraded?

Yes they can. You'll need to download the firmware from panasonic.co.uk, burn it to CD-R as an ISO and the player will do the rest.
The player is compliant to BD profile 1.1 so, doesn't have an ethernet port to drag firmware down over the web.

can these be made region-free?

Yes it can. To make it region free for DVD, you'll need the remote codes, and a suitable remote to play them back.

To make it Blu-Ray region free, as will all BD players, it's a hardware hack and will cost you around £100 - £120 iirc.

I've had one of these for about 18 months now and paid £350 for mine, to get it the week it was released. I consider that good value for such a fantastic player so, £99 is an absolute bargain.

Heat and rep added.

Paul

There was one of these for sale in a local Tesco for £129 over the weekend. It looks like they are finally clearing them out. I nearly bought one for £129 but didn't.

heat from me but im still on the fence as to whether to get one

Whoa! nice spec for a great price
