As per title.

I listed these 2 bluray players some time back, but just popped into the Mile End Road branch and saw a customer buying both the players off display. The manager supposedly knocked off £5 each player because there was nothing with them (no cables, no remote or box).

So for those of you who check your local stores, there might be display models or no stock at all. If you find any stores that have them in stock and on display, ask if the box along with all the bits are in the warehouse, because the sales guy was telling the customer that they normally keep the boxes at the back.

Where did you hear about this? See instore? Work there? Friend of a friend of a friend?

Sony on website is £229.99
The Panasonic is not on website.

Barely any stores have these left.. and they're 39.97..

Sounds quite hit and miss but if you get some good luck you could get a good deal. Very very very luck if you do though.

Well the sales guy had the tickets at £49.97 and pc world will not have the players advertised on their website once its become clearance and dead cheap in price.

Iv just re-listed them just in-case some gets lucky to find them a bargain.

ok, good stuff

Yet another example of PCW & Currys lowering the price of their clearance items to shift the last few. There have been a couple of hot deal threads already a few days ago so almost all of the stock would have been hunted down by HUKD buyers then.

The ones that are left will probably be ex-display or incomplete.

None in the Midlands near me last time I looked a week ago and probably none in vast swathes of the country.but good luck if you can find any in a few isolated stores.

EDIT: Last time I asked if they had the boxes for Ex-display models I was invariably told they try to keep them but they periodically throw them out as they are deemed a fire risk in the warehouse! (and the remotes get nicked off the shop floor!)

Just travelled across London after being told Kensington branch had a BD35 for £49.97...got there and it was priced £149.97...I questioned it with a sales rep who spoke the store manager and said they could do max of 15% off...Informed them that I had been told it was £49.97 he went back to manager, manager came over and said..."two things wrong here...a) I can't reduce the price from £149.97 and b) its been reserved by an employee".

Absolute joke, pure rigging going on, had obviously seen on the system it was reduced and decided to have it...pi$$ed off, in hindsight I should have just had it and seen what it rung up on the till...:x

edit: apparently Old Kent Road had one, I phoned them and it was "damaged" so not fit for sale...another one in the pockets of an employee..

Just been. It's the display model, so not available for sale.

i know how u feel...exactly same thing happend to me with the Samsung Home Cinema system posted a few days back...i was gutted too :x

I did warn people above... since this is a repeat post, most of the HotUKDeal hunters have already had the rich pickings days ago ... or the store employees!! :whistling:

Unless you are passing, you'll spend more in fuel on wild goose chases or only to find incomplete items. A couple of weeks ago, one store that was showing 2 in stock "couldn't find" them... (try the staff canteen!)

yeah but my point was it was still on the shelf, and I was told it was there for £49.97 if they didnt have one fair enough...but it was in your face obvious that they thought they'd have it after I informed them of the price drop. This one had a remote, no box/cables etc which was fine...

I have returned my player and have a brand new remote for sale for this unit if anyone is interested.

Mods, i'm not too sure if i can post this here or if i need to put it in the for sale section. please advise and i will edit as necessary.

Danny/geforce I think the price they quoted was wrong. These things fall in price and they often dont change the ticket. if they had scanned the barcode the SKU number would show £49.97 nationwide on the system. I've picked up items still showing full price like a camera bag that was £39.99 and scanned at 47p.

If they go in the back looking for stock, in one store I wont mention by name, you KNOW they'll never find it... well for you as a customer that is! :x

If you ring ahead to check it often alerts them of a bargain that they miraclulaously suddenly dont have in stock.

I'm not knocking all employees as I've had some craking deals from very helpful managers willing to knock money off for missing remotes. Conversely I've had the run around many times.

Yep unfortunately it's how it works, its most frustrating as I said I should have just said i'll have it and taken it to the counter to pay, it would most likely have scanned cheaper and if not I could have declined it.

Good news for me too :-) Was able to bag the Sony S350 Display Model in PC World Taunton. Came in it's box with Manual, CD Rom, Power Cable, Audio Cable and Remote :-) All for £49.97.

Lovely jublbly :-)

Glad I could help.. I've left you some rep for going back in and tackling them! You should pick up the leads and renote no problem.

Well done to others that are finding the odd ones. No BD's around here for ages but the only Sonys are in use connected to TV's in a couple of stores and they wont sell them. Too much trouble to disconnect them!!

Some patterns I'm picking up:

1. Stock accuracy in national system is poor

Answer: Do more regular stocktakes and allow managers to submit "stock changes" that are instantaneous in the system.

2. Staff are regularly purchasing items for themselves making sales non-accessible to customers

Answer: None. It's tricky as staff are consumers too... and could get friends/family to buy for them. A "no hold" policy for employees might help.

3. Parts are missing from ex-display items

Answer: Be more vigilant on returns, ensuring all parts are there before approving return. And better storage. Have a clear policy on where remotes and cables are stored for ALL products in each store.

4. Price discrepancies between stores (especially on clearance items)

Answer: Remove store-specific pricing, with reduction prices being handed down from national sales office.

Some intersting points there...

I think the stock system isnt too bad as the error is usually only when stock gets down to ones. As for missing parts, it's usually remotes and they often leave the store in shoplifters pockets. You only have to look at ebay sales.

As for prices, the staff I have spoken openly admit they have price changes 2 or 3 times a week and can't always keep up with changing tickets especially on clearance items. The prices are usually nationwide not store specific unless it's a specific incomplete item.

You cant really blame the staff for buying up the bargains. They are consumers the same as us. They only get 10% staff discount and shop workers wages as not the best in the world.

I do wish they'd keep the display boxes but I was told they cant keep them all becasue of the fire hazard in the smaller back room warehouses.

God I hate DSG staff.

I go into a different Currys to usual and find both of these players and the samsung £39.97 player. I point them out and say I'll take it. The staff member checks it on the system and then says it's not available.

After this happening twice I kick off and speak to the manager. I explain the situation and ask if anything else has been reserved. He says no. I point out the Sony player and the sign saying £150, the manager boxes it upand takes it to the till where it scanned through at £49.97.

So now I have a mint Sony BDP-S350 with box, cables and remote. Thanks OP. :-D
