There was a refurbished one on the Sony Center outlet two weeks ago going for £89. Claimed it played 4k Discs so was very tempted to pick it up. Since then though it went up in price daily and sadly now I have the money it's gone.

Sony don't yet make a UHD Blu-ray player

This is fully priced so not a deal, not sure why it's been listed. I believe it's so expensive because it doubles as an amp if i recall correctly.

Certainly wasn't a 4K player for £89 and Sony haven't even released one yet.

In that case I'm doubley glad I didnt buy it. I'll see if I can find it again tho. I'm certain it said it played 4k discs.

It upscales regular blu rays, it doesn't play 4k discs.

doubt it!

Yep thats what I'm thinking. I've found it in their standard product list and it doesn't mentioned 4k discs. I wonder if it was a typo while it was in the outlet as a refurbished model. Very glad I didn't jump on it then. I dont need another standard bluray player lol

Yes, it's the RRP, but it's also the cheapest price currently available. Couple that to the legendary RS customer service and guarantee and you've got a "deal".

I think I'll wait till the PS4K (or whatever it'll be called) is out. I think it should be a year or so and the combo of a 4K player + buffed up PS4 seems a no brainer

Don't forget if you bought the new Panny from TPS it should of come with a voucher for 1 of these at half price

Superfi do the Samsung one for £429 (pre-order).

PS4.5 I think. will definitely be a bargain. I remember buying the ps3 at £350 with some games while the top specs blu ray players were still at around £1000

But even then , it was at best, a mediocre BR player. There were certainly better around, although clearly, for more money.

Don't think the PS4s (4.5) will have a ultra Bluray drive. 4k movies will be streamed content. That's pretty much why Sony has said if won't release a dedicated player until 2017. So expecting the PS4s this Nov and PS5 with ultra Bluray Nov 2019 (AMD Zen+K12+Polaris+HBM). #Muchspeculation

Sorry but far from a deal.
You can get this 50% when purchasing decent new tv.

How fast do you reckon these will drop in price?

I'll be very surprised if it doesn't have the drive, even with new online store, the network infrastructure still isn't close to being good for 4K anywhere outside of a city and the PlayStation has always been the gateway drug to new formats. PS2 DVD, PS3 Bluray (may not have been the best Bluray but you knew they'd keep the firmware up to date for years) so it's the logical step.

That's an interesting, if depressing article

C'mon guys my phone shoots 4K. Badly, but it does it.

Sigh... been desperate for 4K content for 18mths so this is disappointing. Atoms would be nice but on its own doesn't justify the investment.

My local stores won't even stock many BluRays because people just won't pay the premium, with UHD discs list price of £35 (although they will be a bit cheaper in store) I just can't see enough people willing to pay the massive premium for it.
Star wars release on BluRay is £15 if the UHD version is North of £20 I think it would limit sales to such a level it would be a niche product.
