I've had one of these for the past 2 years and don't have a bad word to say about it. The price usually fluctuates around the £60 mark, so at this price I think it's a bit of a bargain. Because the shaver has a fast motor (10,000rpm) it gives a really good shave. It might not be the best designed piece of kit, but it really does do the job, and do it well.

(I have thick beard growth and this works well for me. I've had a selection of Philishaves over years from £190 downwards. This gives a superior shave at a fraction of the price).

The majority of reviews on amazon give it 4 or 5 stars. The only bad reviews I can find are from people that clearly don't know how to use a foil shaver, you do have to alter your technique, it's not rotary......

Personally I've been very impressed with it!

Product Features
Floating triple blade shaver with world's sharpest optimum 30o blade angle
Fast 10,000rpm motor for a faster shave
Flexible pivoting head
Charge indicator with 1-hour charging for 45 mins use.
Long-life stainless steel blades and foil

Great shaver this!! Had a Phillips before (the one that's on here every month!) and it was utter garbage on thick stubble. Worst shaver I've had.

Got my Panasonic on eBay a couple of years back for £30 delivered from Hong Kong!

Cuts extremely well, battery lasts for ages, and use can use it wet, as I do. Works brilliant either way though.

Only downside is the crappy pop up trimmer.

Mine is starting to go blunt. Not sure whether go get a new foil, or buy a whole new shaver.

any idea how this compares to the Panasonic ES-RT31? i can't see a difference other than the 701 looks a little nicer? amazon.co.uk/Pan…1-3 at £3 more i can get prime delivery so not sure which one to get.
Ist this giving a close shave?
I always used blades but thinking on razors. The only problem is my thick beard so not sure I can avoid the 5 o`clock shadow with this.

SNAP - bought mine from digital-e.hk (from ebay) was the cheapest seller at the time. Like you bought an absolutely useless Philips HQ6990.

Amazon reviewer: "I have to say this shaver gives me the closest shave of any electric razor I have ever used. In fact I have started using it along with shave gel and get a shave that is almost equal to a wet shave."

It's a close shave, I stopped using gillette fusions for this, and I've saved a packet.

Can't really see a comparible difference, but I'd be inclined to plump for the newer version just for the "nano blades"?? anyway here's a link to the site, the compare and contrast function isn't up to much (all the blank fields on the right are present & are the same, just don't know about the nano blades)

I've posted a separate thread for this model, which is less than £40 at the Cooperative Electrical.

They are the same model, there is no 512 search the panasonic site, look at the specification and description on Amazon. The 512 is a region specific code. 511 is for UK & Ireland. So for £2 more you've got nothing bar a different barcode.

I have the same problem. Years ago I swapped my foil shaver for a rotary. I found that the foil shaver was better on the straight stubble hairs on the chin but absolutely hopeless on the softer curly hairs on the neck. Phillips and Remington rotary shavers have been better on the neck but far from perfect. Maybe this one is better. Any answers to Slash's question?

Good stuff! I'm sure it was £45 or something on Amazon, but sold out pretty quick. Was amazed to see it on eBay so cheap. You can't really go wrong with Panasonic.

Although I'm pushing 30, I still suffer from spots and can't use a blade. Dry electric shaves where giving me rashes. I use this in the bath with shaving foam. One of the best gadgets I've bought.

As for curly neck hairs? I wouldn't know, my hair is dead straight, even on my neck! Haha
