Great price! thanks (_;)

Said it before, and I'll say it again: why are there never any internal Blu-Ray drive deals!?

Very good price and has support for BD-R XL 100GB and 128GB Recordable Blu-ray Discs and even DVD RAM. I was looking at getting an internal UJ-265 last year for a new ITX build I was contemplating, but I couldn't find a descent price. Not sure if I'll build that PC, but this is a good price for a more flexible option.

Blu Ray lightning deal, cheers!

I bought a cheap drive like this on ebay, the external packaging looks cheap and low grade plastic and knocked out from china, the internal drive does seem to be a genuine Panasonic and has been able to read disks that other drivers I have cannot. Despite the external appearance I have been very pleased with the drive. If this one is as good it looks a good deal.

is this fast? i know you can get 15x at least internal for bd-r

Does it read blu rays too?

This appears to be too good to be true - I know Matshita is the OEM wing of Panasonic, so straight away you are buying an unsupported drive (firmware updates anyone?). Also none of the USB powered Panasonic drives on Panasonics web site burn BluRays faster than 2x speed (note they have nothing on their UK comsumer site, however they have these http://www.panasonic.com/industrial/optical-drives/).
False advertising - it's like the Sony cameras sold on eBay - they use a Sony CCD, but the rest is 3rd party electronics. Good luck finding up to date drivers....
I want to buy it all the same though, so heat added!

It would be a pretty bloody rubbish blu ray writer if it couldn't read them?

If you meant will it play them? then not without extra software.

Finding up to date drivers? You don't need added drivers for any optical drive.

Can I connect this to an ultrabook via USB to boot and install new OS like Win 7?

You said be able to install win 7 with this drive

i ordered a £5 ext dvd-rw drive which works fantastic. i don;t own a blu ray writer but i may get this. back up time for all my photo's etc on one blu ray!

cheers OP

might finally be able to add another level of back up for all my photos by burning to blu ray!

Cheers

Bought one exactly the same for £38.49 from coveredbuckles, but without this deal I wouldn't have looked on eBay in the first place

I think Latchem72 meant Pc internal not Laptop I might be wrong.

Seems good got lots of stuff I need to back up but also want for playing blu ray on my PC.
My laptop plays blu ray but does not do HD audio which my PC has so will be better for my 7.1 amp.

USB 3 sockets are blue, drive should be USB 2 compatible anyway.

Not sure why you would buy a bluray writer when you can pick up a 1tb portable hard drive for less than £50.
If you want an internal drive for for laptop you'll be able to dismantle this I did it with a bluray reader.
You'll need appropriate software to play blurays on your pc, which can be expensive.

Just wondering why people need a Blu-ray writer these days? I do my backups to the cloud. I only burn CD-Rs for listening in the car.

any suggestions for recording media pls?

thanks

these look good

I cannot get fibre BB so uploading is crap on my connection at about 1.2 up even though I get 20mb down on BTBBU
These can be used over to so if I no longer need the films or get the official blu ray then can be gone over.

Got a copy of CyberLink PowerDVD 13 which seem fine on my PC.

Usb 3 sockets are blue on the inside...

They always have blue plastic in them in my experience. If your PC is pretty new (last 2 years) then it should have them

just bought 2 lots of these so will be interesting to try back up some large files well over 15gb

Yes they look good if you want to keep the films but I wanted BD RE which can be reused

Does anyone know if I could use ImgBurn with this drive and be able to set DVD+R DL media book type to DVD-ROM?

The reason I ask is that it detects as a Matshita (Panasonic sister company I think) which doesnt have a setting in ImgBurn to change its book type.

Can someone point to a decent standard Bluay writer? Thanks.

I know this might be good deal, but I can sturdy / longlasting / more reliable one.

Just an update on this.

It would appear that using these drives to write DVD media in a USB 3.0 socket may give issues.

I spent the entire weekend trying to resolve until I read one of the buyers reviews stating the above issue.

In my case the solution was simply to use in a USB 2.0 socket.

Does anyone know if this item see link will work with this Drive, and also wanted confirmation that I could rewrite on this disc. Thanks. Eilz.
