Saw this yesterday in Curry's @ Castle Meadow in Nottingham. I couldn't find it cheaper online.

Seems a decent compact camera. The lens alone supposedly retails at £259.

Decent camera though so hot
Lens is great quality too. I have it on an old Panasonic GF5
it hass 97p at the end of the price, means it has been discontinued. probably only got the abused display model in stock in any stores that still have it.

it would be but you'd be best to either call them and ask or go into a store and see if they can check where has stock and ask them to call the store to hold it for you.
Spoke with chat they where able to check stock locally for me heres the details for others

PANASONIC LUMIX DC-GX800 Mirrorless Camera with 12-32 mm f/3.5-5.6 Lens - SilverProduct code: 191316
The old chap on cameras in that store loves to natter. Showing me shots from different cameras on his phone and everything.
Passionate about his job, so give him a min of your time if he still happens to work there

Oh and a great deal too!

By the time you buy the camera, accessories, additional lens etc it will be near the cost of a decent mobile phone.

For normal use battery life is not a problem. If taking hundreds of photos then dedicated camera is better but at the cost of carrying additional bulky equipment.

Have you seen the size of this camera and the lens that comes with it? Can't be described as bulky.

Just tried online chat and they were as useful as an inflatable dart board.
Just kept say if it is out of stock online no stores will have them.
Well that's agents customer satisfaction rating low.

With a 2x zoom this ain't gonna be good enough for travelling unfortunately
One available in Stirling, but it's the one on display/demo on the shelf. Looks like a nice camera but the discount would need to be a lot more for an ex demo one for me

2.67 and depends what you are shooting, many people manage on their 1x phones (or prime on ilc) so not going to be less versatile is it?

well tbh if there isn't anything else to buy then this setup may well be overtaken by mobiles or 1inch compacts

for me, the main point is the potential of changing lens to suit

really good price though if they have a proper boxed one - heat added

Yes, If you had asked me 5 years ago I would have said it will never happen, I own a Lumix TX100 and Samsung S10, Images for me on the S10 are so sharp, when I take identical photos on the camera and phone then zoom in on my laptop I am damned impressed by the phone images, not so by the dedicated camera. I know people will say it is rubbish and it cant be, but I can only say it how it is. I admit the sensor is bigger on the camera but the lens is faster on the phone.

All the money and R&D investment is in phones and their on-board AI cameras, it's an ultra competitive market and it's showing in the remarkable photo output even from small sensors. Consumer grade sub £1000 standalone cameras ain't getting the love right now and it's a rapidly shrinking market. The future will be pricey high end mirrorless for pros and enthusiasts and phones for everyone else.

Yes so true, when I go anywhere now a days that is scenic, the majority of people taking photos are using phones, several years ago it was visa versa. I have grown up with SLR,s initially without a built in light meter, now to have a phone that takes super photos and in such a small form factor, no developing costs, can share instantly, I took my Lumix with me on vacation a few weeks ago, it rained all the time I was there so using a camera was really a problem, not for my water proof phone. Amazing is all I can say, there is no way back now for the sale of small point and shoot cameras.

Agree completely. Your mobile is with you all the time so no faffing about with bags and lenses. If you want to take a quick picture then it's your mobile all the way.

Yeh, if you want to take a quick picture of something unimportant to post as a thumbnail on face book.

The pictures i take i keep and display, in that user case a phone is a joke. Infact if i need to travel extra light, i leave my phone at home and take a 1" compact in its place.

Its all about how important is the picture your taking is. If it isnt, use a phone. If it is, use a camera.

I just do not how people can say that phones are only good for thumb nails, having said that, many years ago I joined a camera club, the guys there said pretty much what you are saying about phones but they where talking about digital cameras "You cant beat film for quality, digital cameras are crap" where their words. Just shows how people can be wrong lol

i assume you mean tz100? how was your s10 zoomed in vs the tz100?
the competition with phones right now is in the short range compacts not the higher zooms... yet

Yes TZ100, I dont really zoom in in all fairness, most of my pictures are landscapes and if I want to get closer, in many cases I just use my feet. Of course now a days people think the only way to zoom in is by using a zoom lens, Maybe they should use a prime lens and actually move.

so basically you were using the wrong tool for the job
just getting silly with prime and move, sometimes ok within reason eg 24mm vs 30mm but then the actual image changes anyway. vs a 200mm is just silly though

Obviously you are inside a shell and haven't noticed the awesome photos that a mobile phone camera can take. A quick search on Google will put your mind to rest.

Phones are great, but there are physical restrictions on what they can do even if you're not a pro.

Some examples:

1) you can't take good photos of moving things (kids / other people / pets etc) in relatively low light situations with a phone - you need a big sensor to let enough light in at fast shutter speeds.

2) if you want a decent zoom, you need a dedicated camera (though P30 pro and others are starting to close the gap to a degree - I haven't experienced this yet)

3) Shallow depth of field requires a bigger sensor if that's the look you want (simulations are ok, but not yet competitive - though they will only get better).

4) Macro dedicated lenses are needed for quality macro shots if you like seeing small things big.

All of these may be desired by non pros.

I have a Note 9 and a sony compact. The phone is great when I don't have my camera, but image quality for photos that matter isn't close & can't be due to physical limits of small sensors & optics.

However, I wish dedicated cameras could take advantage of the great computational photography advancements being made by the phone R&D teams.

The camera in this deal could be great for someone who wants a zoom lens, macro lens, and a couple of primes to achieve flexibility & image quality still far from possible on a phone, even if they're not a pro.
