nice price, let us know what you think?

Price on the Dixons website is £520 delivered

Amazon is showing £521 delivered

is that with a 4gig SDHC card?

Amazon price is the black one - the silver one is £621...

Granted Dixons is cheaper, but I wouldn't have had it time for tomorrow!

Not sure if Currys will refund the difference against the Dixons price?

Yes, it came with 4Gb SDHC card...

remember, you can get 5% quidco on reserve and collect at the mo which will save another £25 or so.

Great camcorder, so voted hot:

Got the HDC-SD1 today as a Christmas present from my O/H who bought it from QVC last week. I haven't had a chance to play with it yet but it's a Panasonic with true 1080p high-definition and a Leica lens so should be good. QVC are a top company to buy from if the price is right as you can return anything you buy within 30 days and get a full no-quibble refund.

Nice one, I should have picked it up when it was in stock

The HDC-SD1 is not 1080p, it's 1080i.... (Same as the HDC-SD5 I posted about originally)

Does it really matter?

As far as I can tell, the SD1 has a rather odd resolution of 1420x1080, but has better sound recording and a few extra features. The SD5 has 1920x1080 resolution which will fit Full-HD TV owners better, but loses out on mic qualities and extra fittings.

I've got a 1080p telly (yes both cameras are 1080i and it can make a difference, but for the price I'm not too worried),and I'm tempted by the SD1, but I can't help wondering what the picture will look like.

Not to me, and certainly not to the consumer market that those camcorders are aimed at...

Used the camcorder yesterday, and I'm chuffed with it. It's tiny and incredibly light - need to plug it into my HDTV now and see what it looks like on screen..

I had a Sony SR72E standard def, and was really disappointed with the quality on my 52" TV from that so took it back...

I know it a subtle little letter appended at the end of 4 digits but 1080i is only 1/2 of the resolution of 1080p since there are only 540 lines active at the same time.

Now does it matter? Depends if you are resolution obsessed or if you can figure out what really matter like lenses quality, ccd quality, ability to render colours accurately, how does it perform with less than perfect light conditions, usability, how badly/well compressed is the actual resulting footage, etc. I'd say read the reviews. They seem positive.
