This isn't just 3d it has 3 sensors like you get in pro video cameras.

i dont need 3d - dont have a 3d tv - and dont plan on getting it anytime soon (it gives me a headache!)

Is this still a good deal - Or would i be better off with a slr with video capabilities? just after the best possible pic quality for the price. Mostly needed for indoor shooting.

any advice appreciated

dont want to pay the "premium" for a 3d lens - which'll never get used (even if its free!)

The picture quality on these is very very good it can take stills as well as video, the stills are 14mp . If you don't want the 3d lense you could sell it ? or the camera is a tiny bit cheaper without the lense here LINK

Thanks thriller, got to look for some reviews comparing these with mid range slr

Don't buy an slr for video.

I got the Pana TS750 back in May for the cracking price of £333

It is 1080p FullHD same as this. This loses the mini viewfinder at the back and probably only has stereo mics.

The 3D lens, I sold right away and got £100 for it. (never used it,a s you can't even zoom in if you have it attached!!)

The picture quality is totally amazing and it's low light performance is great too. The 3 CMOS sensor system definately works well. The image stabilization is amazing.

This is my 5th camcorder, 2 previous Sonys on HDV. The Pana beats them all hands down.

The still pictures are also pretty damn good, not quite DSLR quality, but not bad!

Go for it, you won't regret it!

zzzz

Don't buy an slr for video.

why? was thinking of it as a one size fits all - got an older dslr now - just had a baby so want a hd video recording too - either one of these and keep my old slr or a newer slr that can do both - i'd read nothing ut good things about using a dslr for video - so be good to hear your opinion on why not

DSLR just doesn't work as well as a dedicated camcorder.

For starters, the zoom on a DSLR is typically a twist the lens job, not press a button.

Autofocus on DSLR is rubbish.

I have a Nikon D3100 DSLR and experimented with the video but when compared to a dedicated HD camcorder there is only one winner. The DSLR can give great DOF but that's it! Mono sound (tinny), hear the AF motor trying to focus - ugly!

The HD camcorder, especially in 1080p50 mode (try and find a DSLR with that) produces amazing pictures.

I'll point you to two different clips from my youtube as examples:

DSLR:

Pana Camcorder:

I gave the DSLR a chance, because as you can see when it gets it right its brilliant, but as it gets it wromg so often I don't even think of using it for video now.

thanks - standalone camcorder it is then...
