nice and a good price

I bought one of these 2 weeks ago and took it on holiday to Disneyland Paris. Normal shots are good, but when using the zoom the picture quality suffers - my wife took our old TZ1 and her shots using zoom were much better. The lack of Leica Lens on this camera is very noticeable and have since sold this. I'll be getting something in the TZ range instead.

Thanks for the info the vulture, I was thinking of buying this camera... but was not sure if the zx1/3 models were worth the extra cash. Think I will hold on and do some more research.

Anybody owned both the zx1 and fs30 ?

Hot for me although I dont like the colour. I don't think it is a fair to make the comparison with the TZ or ZX range as these push the camera into the £200 bracket and of course you are going to get a better camera for that money. Decent Review of the FS30 here techradar.com/rev…iew

Same here, Bought this for my daughter and wondered if she was using it wrong.
I have the TZ3 and found that the picture quality is far better than this.
Bought mine at Jessops and took it back due to the above problems and a couple of others that were probably to do with my camera (Lens cover sometimes stuck and the battery lock sometimes didn't work)

Another point that I forgot to mention in my previous post is that it also seems to take a long time to process a photo - so much so that I was eager to take another photo and it wouldn't be ready yet.

I realise the new TZ series is more expensive, but based on my recent experience of the FS30 I'd recommend spending the extra on a TZ series camera as the FS30 does not perform too well, even for the lesser price.

Some disappointing comments here when Panasonic cameras are usually excellent. There are several TZ cameras in our household and they all perform very well. We recently added a ZX-1 and that is almost as good in a smaller package. It was just £30 more than this post on runout (Currys/DSG) so good value too if there are any still out there.

Damnit! Ordered this from Amazon for £132 couple of weeks back. Arghhh....
Though I thought long and hard about after sales which is why I chose Amazon over Dixons and Tesco.
Not yet received it so can't give my personal opinion but I have read loads and loads of reviews online before making a decision and this camera seems to be among the best in the price range, if not the best, unless u want to go for the Fuji Exr range + hukd voucher.

Ive had the TZ7 and got the TZ5, and my wife has the FS7. The TZ5 takes good pictures indoors, as does the FS7 but the TZ7 was terrible indoors and fantastic outdoors. The pictures from the FS7 are obviously not as good as the TZ5, but they really are good quality pictures none the less.
Hope this helps as I assume that the FS range will all be similar.

I agree 100% with the comments re TZ5 and TZ7. I had the 5 and found it excellent both indoors and out. The 7 takes superb photos outdoors but poor (imho) indoor photos. My dgtr now has the TZ5 and loves it but I love the TZ7 for the fantastic video!

I've had the TZ1 and TZ7 and neither were great at low light, but no worse than the FS30 which performed pretty poorly in low light too.

Low light photography is never that great with compact camera because if the small sensor size, though people say the Canon SX series are better than most.

Any one know were you can get a zx1 for a decent price these days? I would like to get my hands on either the zx1 or zx3 just to see what It handles like. But no stores seem to have it on display

DSG (Currys, PCW, Dixons) have had them. I got my ZX1 for £149.99 on runout back in the summer but probably aren't any around now. Only reason for buying it over TZ range was compact size. Similar features but only 8x zoom.

I agree that all of these cameras are compromised in poorer light but what compact isn't? The great thing about digital is you can usually review and take more shots until you get what you want. Some people seem to expect miracles from a compact with tiny flash. I've found the TZ tends to take pics a bit on the dark side and upping the EV setting can help tremendously. Overall I'd recommend the TZ/ZX ranges to anyone shopping for that type of camera.
