Well reviewed camera.

Its about the biggest sensor (and one of the nicest lenses) you can get in a camera this size. This means you can get better low-light performance and depth-of-field (blurred background in portraits) compared to other compacts. Its also got some pro video features.

Great price. hot

super hot - was tempted when it pinged up earlier at 454 (via camelcamel), but then amazon dropped it to 449, and suddenly added the refreshed cashback deal - have now bitten since at £399 it's hard to resist!

Cashback seems to expire at midnight tonight - 26 March (see terms and conditions).

Fantastic camera, bought it for £599 on Black Friday and don't regret it (as a DSLR owner its a boon to not have to drag lots of kit around with me most of the time).

If you want a good quality and effective "compact" camera then this is the one to consider.

I think the 26th March deadline was an Amazon typo and relates to the previous promotion. If you click through to the Panasonic Spring cashback Promotion page it says the deadline for submission is the 31st July.

How would you say this compares with a Sony A5100 with 16-50mm lens, a worthwhile upgrade or not? I'm not convinced there would be enough advantages but open to suggestion..

Have you got a link to the cash back page? The only cash back offer I can see for the LX100 ended on 16th March.

Click on the Get Deal link above. Then the £50 Cashback and free 5 year warranty link and then the Cashback link against any of the eligible products listed. A Panasonic pdf then opens showing the last date for redemption as 31st July

Good advice would be to spend a little bit more and get a Sony rx100 m3.

Voted hot!

I was looking at the Sony A5100 as well as the LX100 . I ordered the LX100 earlier today (as I had some vouchers knocking about) at what I think is a very good price - I thought I'd have a mooch and see what the consensus was on here.

I had already had a quick go in store (so by no means have I tested either in any way) and found the Panasonic really 'substantial', although not too heavy. You can hardly make a judgement in John Lewis, but I've been looking at some of the reviews.

On the website snapsort.com you can enter the model number of one camera and compare it against another - it's pure stats and that of course shouldn't be the be all and end all. I think that it will be hard to beat the sensor and the maximum ISO of the LX100. Perhaps it is a bit of a pain that it doesn't have an integrated flash. I don't think that I'll need the 4k function, which is a feature of the LX100 but ultimately the picture quality is what I'm looking for and even if it is a bit chunkier than some competitors I'm hoping I've made a good choice.

I also thought about the lens upgrade costs on the a5100 I though that they are somewhat prohibitive.

If anyone has purchased this cam recently for more money, ask for refund the difference. I bought mine 3 weeks back for £604.95, and just got off live chat, which resulted in a refund of £155.95

I was thinking exactly the opposite. Larger sensor, better lens more manual controls all in the panasonic. The only thing is the sony has a zoom.

Gone up to £549 now

The Panasonic is 35% heavier and noticeably bigger (115x66x55 mm compared to the Sony at 101x58x41 mm) so it depends how compact you need your compact to be.

I want a compact that I can carry with me all the time as I am fed up with having lots of lovely shots captured poorly on my camera phone. If I want a large(ish), heavy camera in a secure case then I can simply carry my DSLR with me. If I could have the Pani internals and the Sony form factor, that would be awesome.
