Think the sensor is a bit bigger on this one compared with the FZ82

I have another Lumix compact with a Leica lens and it gets stunning results, probably camera I use / carry most and I've been told I have too many cameras.

Hence the big focal length numbers quoted on small sensor cameras. A desperate attempt to sell them.
The OP is a far more powerful camera.

To be fair Panasonics range of compacts do all look and sound the same. Its easy to confuse them either way which i imagine hurts sales of the better 1" cameras. Sony's marketing department are far far cleverer!
Why buy this if i can buy a7 for 100 more [full frame cam]

Because you'll need lenses with the A7, and you can't pocket the A7. It's a completely different type of camera

A big sensor will allow more light into the camera, which means better low light performance. The trade off is then the size of the lens to achieve a similar focal length. That's why you see those huge lenses on professional cameras, which are only achieving what you might consider "10x" zoom, compared to small pocket cameras achieving double that.

It's a bit more complicated than that, but generally speaking that's the gist.

Cheapest I can't find it is £650ish, where have you seen it for £399?

I have owned a couple of the TZ range starting way back with the 9. The TZ range is a great point and shoot camera that also lets you do some basic manual adjustment. It would be a great way for your daughter to get in to photography and if the bug bites then move on to bigger and more expensive kit.It might be worth comparing some reviews and seeing what old stock is going cheap at say a TZ70 or 80 (they do a new model every year). AV forums has a reasonable photography section that may help.

That’s a few of us have asked the poster to cite their source of an A7 for £399.

I think it is safe to presume they were talking

As an addition to the last reply, I just bought a TZ-95 refurbished direct from Panasonic on eBay (have a look for Lumix deals on here). It's £179 and the box was dented but contents looked brand new. Bizzarely the TZ90 was more....
£329 now...
