Very clever, having a separate camera, rather than one built into your phone whatever next!

Actually there are some better ones available now, with 1" sensors that make them much more of an alternative to an slr
12fps shooting mode is very impressive.

For a long time bridge cameras profited from the facade of being a DSLR/compact compromise, despite usually being generic superzooms with handling akin to DSLRs (with the occasional set of manual controls or EVF). There were exceptions of course, but for a long time large numbers of bridges were sold solely because people assumed that a chunky black camera meant getting superior image quality. People seem to have caught on to this recently, which coupled by the decreasing prices of both compact superzooms and entry level DSLRs/CSCs eating into their desirability. As mentioned by Flobbit, in response to this the bridge camera market has ironically shifted towards fulfilling the promise the category originally made, with specs and featuresets that genuinely appeal more to enthusiasts with features such as larger sensors, faster aperture lenses, or full access to manual shooting modes. Crappy P&S bridges still exist of course, but it's the more premium models that seem to actually garner interest these days.

I bought this camera last year and I'm not a very experienced photographer but if anyone was looking for examples of what the camera can do, here are some photos I took during the 'blood moon' last September. Sadly there was some dew on the lens by the time the blood moon was out and I didn't think to check to see if that was the problem in time, sadly none of the guides I'd read on photographing an eclipse thought to mention it

Where does it say you get a 2 year warranty?? I bought a Panasonic DMC-FZ72EB-K 3 weeks ago from Very and they states i only get 1 year, can you please clarify this for me.
Cant see the need for a bridge camera, most compact cameras that slip into a jeans pocket give great results, one i bought 3 years ago gives 1080p video 10fps burst mode,3d pics etc.

I've just got this same camera from Amazon and it comes with 2 years warranty. I'm loving the 60x zoom!

The avantage with the FZ200 is the lens. It gives you greater reach - 600mm vs 384mm but more importantly it is also a constant f2.8 aperture, the HX10V is f5.9 at 384mm whereas the FZ200 is still f2.8 at 600mm. This allows for lower light and faster shutter speeds. It also has a high quality EVF which is great if it's very sunny.
Any experience of the video on this? Need a camcorder to record local football games and wondered this may give me a good dual mix.
I use to buy the fz series upto fz 100. Then I bought a canon 600d after trying one. Bridge camera images were never good enough regardless of the optical zoom or the pixel size. I'd pay a little extra and get an slr.. even if it was a starter one.
I got the FZ150 a couple of years back for travelling and it's a brilliant piece of kit, except it cost me £280. I've still got it otherwise I would consider replacing it for this.

My choice was between the Pana FZ150 or Nikon P510 if I remember correctly. The Nikon has 42x zoom and was brilliant but the sensor (colours) looked SLIGHTLY better on the Pana. Ultimately the restricted movement of the screen on the Nikon lost it, but the newer version the P520 has fixed that with a fully rotational screen.

Thanks for sharing the deal, I know someone that might be interested in this.

My reasoning was you might as well get an slr if you cant slip it in your pocket, not have the zoom but far superior image quality.

In terms of sheer image quality probably not a lot- smartphones from the last few years have well and truly caught up with the image quality you can get from point and shoot camera sensors. The advantages of a camera like this are all the additional specs and features that you would expect from a dedicated photographic tool- a massive zoom range, viewfinder, articulating screen, better ergonomics etc.

An SLR will have better image quality but you would need to carry a couple of lens to achieve the same focal range which would cost at least double the FZ200.

Bridge cameras were always a compromise between compacts and dSLRs. But now they are the worst of both worlds. Compacts are as good in terms of quality now and bridges have all the bulk.
I dont think there is really a market for them now.

The IQ from smart phones (even the latest) are a million miles away from even a basic compact. This is the stuff of the press. But if all people want is a snap - the smartphone are fine. But you can't really compare them with a proper camera.
Anybody know it preforms at high speed shooting ie motorsport ?

Much appreciated.
You won't get the £30 casback with that supplier. I checked when I bought this camera about 6 weeks ago. You qualify for the cashback if Amazon are the seller but LJ are a third party seller who are not on Panasonic 's list of qualifying retailers.

Goes to show the quality of this cam for Video!!
Most here couldn't shoot that with a 10k DSLR and expensive zoom, even though all comment how good there DSLR's are and how bad this bridge is, most here don't have a clue and leave there DSLR's in auto most of the time! (_;)

£30 cashback is only with Amazon as posted. It looks like Amazon have put their price up now. It pays to keep a check as Amazons price fluctuates daily. It was £225.05 with Amazon at the time of posting.

nice one of the red blood moon, the camera can get better normal moon shots though
dont take it when a full moon and you get a lot more texture on the surface
you could also drop the brightness on those and you will magically find more detail - the shots are better than they first look, just overexposed for showing the details

Don't be ridiculous...
The latest smartphones have hundreds of millions in R&D put into them.
You're saying a Sony Z5 say with it's 23MP 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS BSI CMOS multi-aspect image sensor and F2.0 lens is "a million miles away from even a basic compact"

What the phone can't do is zoom. The 600mm equiv F2.8 lens on this camera is amazing for anyone into wildlife and sports who doesn't want to spend a fortune.
can anyone advise on how long the battery will last, especially in relating to video recording?

I think you're overestimating the abilities of compact cameras. Smartphones basically are compact cameras at this point in time, Sony have used literally the same sensors in their Xperia Z series of phones and their entry level point & shoots for a number of years, while the majority of other brands use sensors not much smaller than that in their high end phones. Tests from plenty of sources have shown that the different in image quality between a smartphone and a P&S shot at a similar focal length typically have a negligible difference in image quality.
There's a very useful video tuturial on this camera by Graham Houghton.
