The TZ10 is Panasonic's latest compact superzoom. It is the direct replacement for the excellent TZ7, but has a few extra features and improvements. The main improvements are:-
*Better Optical Image Stabilisation (Panasonic quote 2x better than TZ7).
*12.1MP Sensor (versus 10.1MP on TZ7)
*Manual exposure controls
*Improved Autofocus (most noticeable when following a moving target of zooming when taking HD Video).
*Improved handling (main selector dial is moved to prevent accidental changes).
*GPS Tagging (embeds location information within photos and displays where you are on the LCD)

To get this for £210 perform the following:-
i). Click the Comet link above and add the camera to your basket (price shows £252.63) and select "collect from store".
ii). Add 5% discount code "5OFF" (reduces price to £240).
iii). Collect from store and pickup the £30 Panasonic cashback voucher. If the store does not have vouchers available (my store did not have any when I collected) call Panasonic on freephone 0800 072 7649 and they will send you one.
iv). Complete the form, add photocopies of the receipt and barcode, and send it to Panasonic. A check for £30 will be sent to you upon receipt.

I purchased one on Saturday and I am very very happy with it. My other camera is a Canon 5D MkII, but the TZ10 will be what I use when I cannot carry a DSLR and all the gubbins with me.

Please post a better deal for this camera or checkout the reviews in post below before voting cold.

edit: The next cheapest place I can find is Amazon at £241.40, but Panasonic terms only allow cashback for TZ10/TZ8's purchased from Retail Stores. Online purchases are not included.

My wife recently bought this camera and loves it, in fact so do I. We paid £250 so £220 after the Panasonic Cashback offer so £180 after cashback is a fantastic deal.

HOT HOT from me.

I think It's £210 after cashback.
Superb camera though, I paid £230 for mine from Costco after cashback 2 weeks ago. But there is a free 2 year warranty when you buy from Costco.

Yes, price is £210 AFTER cashback, but this is the cheapest you can get this camera for in the UK.

quidco too, right?

Bought the TZ7 a few months back, if it's as good as the TZ7 then it's a steal at this price.... Voted hot...

Excellent - I also got TopCashBack :-)

Anyone recommend a good snug camera case for the TZ10?

This is just typical of "the internet". I spend ages looking around, deciding between the TZ10, Sony HX5, and the Samsung WB650... and then, less than 24hrs after I make a purchase, a deal comes up on one of them lol.

Voted hot anyway. GRrrr!

Good camera. HOT deal. But I'm waiting for the TZ100.

Yes, VERY hot at this price. I upgraded from the TZ7 and basically it's a TZ7 with GPS, a few more pixels and a bit more manual control.

voted hot but I'd like to stay away from Comet - never been helpful when my products have failed within a year....

I have the Lowepro Apex 20AW. £11.73 at amazon.
The main compartment fits perfectly and it has an additional compartment for a spare battery and memory card, which most people would carry.
Other hard cases deemed as suitable won't allow an additonal battery / card.

Try Poundland for a case - I go a Lowepro there which fits exactly - Total Bargain

Voting hot for the deal as it was £10 cheaper than my own purchase - don't forget Quidco

Great camera and good price.

Sooo tempted to get one of these, mine is a few years old now and somebody had one at a festival I went to recently. The pics and hd vids were superb!

Hmm, looks good. Trying to kid myself an Ixus 100 will do the job...

TZ5 still going strong... must resist...

Looks good and a good price, but just a warning to anyone looking for a stills camera with HD video capabilities, the AVCHD Lite format is still a problem for many editing softwares so don't assume you can edit or do much with anything filmed on it.. do your research before purchase and be sure you can do what you want with it first.. otherwise great little camera for a great price. hot

This camera will do HD using both AVCHD or Motion JPEG. Motion JPEG's can be played easily within Windows Media Player and just about any other software player.

For AVCHD use VLC or search for Media Player Classic (both free software).

I use AVCHD setting on my TZ10 because file size is reduced by half and quality is exactly the same as motion jpeg.

Bought one of these on Sunday. I did notice that the form for the cashback said the promotion expired on June 30th. I presume it has been extended and I can still use the form?

I am looking at sdhc cards for the camera and can't decide between a pansonic 8GB class 10 for £29.99 delivered or a Transcend 16GB class 10 for £29.50. Anyone tried either of these?

Just viewing. Use Media Player Classic (download the Combined Community Codec Pack) it's a much better player than VLC. I couldn't play my avchd files on 2 out of 3 of my PCs using VLC - but no probs with MPC.

I haven't used either of those models but they are both faster than you'll need on the TZ10. For Still and AVCHD video you'll only need at least a class 4 card - but you will need at least a class 6 if you record motion jpeg.

No they're just free media players - both are good but I recently switched to using CCCP and loads of video files I thought were faulty or badly encoded now play smoothly.

I've only recently had a PC capable of editing AVCHD and haven't tried to burn or even edit any of them yet. I'd also appreciate folks recommendations ;-)

just reserved one at comet ,cracking deal grommit

XMedia Recode is a superb tool for editing and re-encoding video. It is made by Germans, but the program itself is in English. Very easy to use and lots of profile options that will allow AVCHD (and any other format) conversion to any Media type. It has great profiles for PS3, XBOX 360, iPhone/iPod and almost every other media player.

Saying that, anyone with a PS3 should be able to play AVCHD directly on the console.

I bought this camera - sending it back the GPS is pretty useless on it - takes forever to lack on to a signal. Also the photos are very noisy looking. The video recording is very good though - this is a much better video camera then a photo camera. Low light photos are pretty poor

Thanks Orville - I'll try that out - would you happen to know the difference between the 'standard' and portable versions?

The GPS option did seem a bit of a gimmick to me unless it can lock onto a satellite within the time the camera startes up and takes a picture.
I guess it must be annoying if you want to take a snapshot AND have it GPS tagged. Is there no way to tag the photos after you take them once the GPS has woken up?

Don't get me started on Panasonic and noisy looking photos  - the TZ7 is reputedly better in the noise and low-light departments; but it also came in for a fair bit of critism on those fronts...

GPS does not work well indoors (same for all GPS devices) but when I played with it at the weekend it correctly identified the park I was in with my kids. You can edit the GPS tagging in-camera, or you can change the jpeg meta-data from your pc. There is also software available that can show maps of where your pictures were taken. Personally, I think it is a gimmick and will leave it turned off until I go on holiday.

As far as noise is concerned, the TZ10 (and TZ7) are extremely good for their class. If you want better performance you need to get a larger comera, or a camera with a much smaller zoom rannge. I found pictures good up to ISO 800 but I have set my camera menu to use ISO 400 as a max setting for general use..

I just use the "standard" version of XMedia Recode. Select the device you wish to playback you movies on, select the resolution and audio bitrates, and encode. You can also select which portions of the clip you want to encode and bin the rest.

Hmm, these noise comments are putting me off. Fine if it does this a bit at full 12x zoom, but what about 6-8 or even 10x? still ropey?

Considering the size of this camera, the zoom range and the number of MP, noise is pretty good. There is not a compact superzoom in existance that will not produce some noise at medium to high ISO settings, Check the reviews in post #2. None of them complain about noise being excessive.

People need to be realistic. For £200 you cannot get a 12x zoom ultra-compact 10-12MP camera that produces zero noise at ISO-1600.

I use a Class 6 in my TZ7 and it performs perfectly, even when taking high speed bursts.

Orville is right that you can't expect a £200 compact to be noise free, although a bit generous talking of ISO 1600 - from the reviews I've looked at there's significant noise at ISO 400.

But don't let my comments on noise put you off - I'm a persistent grouch re. camera manufacturers stuffing compact CCDs with pixels and each new release showing more noise than the last. Perhaps it stands out more on Panasonics as they are otherwise very good.

Thanks for the post. Reserved one at my local Comet for collection...
For those of you with this camera, are they good in auto mode as that's mainly how it will be used by the missus and I don't want her complaining!!

If she doesn't complain about the camera she will find something else to moan about:).

But Auto mode (Panasonic call it AI mode) works extremely well. Just turn the camera on, point and shoot.

Meh, it's a mute point anyway. Out of stock within at least 60 odd miles of Oxford.
