a good price but a fiver cheaper here

Brilliant camera, good price.

I'm hoping this will drop further going into March with the impending release of the TZ20.

Would be nice for £150

The TZ20 will be £350 to begin with so don't expect that good a reduction in the TZ10.

how is this hot?? the normal (black) tz10 was around £160-170 a few months back.. VAT aint gone up THAT much!!

Off to check out what the TZ20 looks like...

I had this and the TZ7 before it and then tried my father in laws Casio H10 and wow... blows the panny out of the water.... Bought a H10 refurb off ebay for £99 delivered.... My advice is buy the H5 or H10 casio for half the price (refurb or about 40% cheaper new)....

Other than the GPS feature, is there much else to warrant upgrading from the TZ7 to the TZ10?

I think the Casio H15 came out to replace the H10 but its £120 refurbed on ebay, remember reading about improved picture quality but been reading many reviews and keep changing my mind with cameras..... Need something with a big zoom and pocketable in addition to my Sony NEX-5. Had several casio cameras in the past so always look to them for my next one.

The H15 has worse quality than the H10 they upped the megapixels from 12 to 14 big mistake on the same small sensor

No it wasn't! Came down to about £206 at Amazon and there was a Panasonic £30 cashback on at the time.

Not really unless you want gimmicks like GPS. Likewise the TZ20 doesn't offer a lot more. The TZ7 is a very good camera - stick with it!

Having just come back from holiday where I visited 9 countries I can see the benefit of the GPS feature, although for the majority of the time I agree it is a gimmick.

I find there is usually a clue in the pictures ;). I upgraded from a TZ5 as the TZ10 is slightly smaller but quite honestly I didn't really need to. I'm keeping the TZ5 as a very good spare.

The TZ10 battery is a little smaller (same as TZ7 I believe) and the GPS is said to drain the battery pretty quickly so I think mine will be left switched off!

I'd bought the TZ7 a while back and the TZ10 recently for my wife. Our far-east travel plans got changed (was planning on utilising the GPS on her TZ10, as we'd planned to visit a few countries, but things changed and we ended up in Tenerife). The GPS seemed to work fine in the UK, but took several (obviously battery draining) minutes trying to make contact with satellite......................anyway, TZ10 takes some nice pictures, but after reviewing some of the HD video shots I took, they seemed a bit more shaky/less stable than my TZ7 - I will have to do a bit more experimenting with both to be sure.

As for battery life, I always have a couple of spares and keep the screen display brightness at the lowest, etc. No noticeable difference between the two cameras (I gave up on using GPS)

I have the tz8 (comes without the gps feature) amazing camera. Great photos, video and good features, and this is a good price for the tx10. The only issue i read with the tz10 was that the gps function drains the battery quick so you may need to buy a second

Yeah a useless 5 year warranty, brilliant

After year 2 they charge labour for each fault, i was reading on another sellers site that offers warranty that typical cost is £100 for labour, the warranty is probably not worth the paper its written on, just be careful

See:

TZ9 is £199 in PC world. Isn't that a TZ10 without the GPS. Waiting for that one to drop a little more before buying.

Brilliant camera, good price.

lol if you think this is brilliant you should get an dslr.....i think its overrated.....i have this camera and for a point and shoot it takes fairly good day shots and decent video for its size....but night shot are appalling and even a cheap £40 camera takes better night pics (to be fair i did only use the auto feature for night and manual/auto for day shots)...massive noise on all night pics

my wifes canon ixus 980is takes MILES better day and night pics (video not as good though) and has a dead handy viewfinder (important in bright sunlight, especially on ski slopes), my son's casio exlim takes miles better night shots and marginally worse day shots

so my hunt for a decent small camera goes on and ill stick to my dslr for now....the tz10 is good but forget night shots

I have no doubt a DSLR CAN take better photos, but in my case it would take no photos whatsoever, as I just wouldn't carry it.

So may of us want compact cameras. My old TZ3 does very nicely, except for some indoor night shots. Thanks for the warning about the TZ10 being the same. Maybe I need another brand of compact.

For best portability and low light/quality performance I'd go for a Canon S95 with it's f2 lens, or for the best low light performance with minimum bulk, a Sony Nex-5/3 with pancake lens.

About £90 more for both cameras (the Nex-3 16mm was £267 the other day on Play), but worth it if you're serious about wanting a genuine improvement in picture quality,

Neither of these is a 'superzoom' which is probably the main reason someone would buy a TZ10 or any other superzoom. If you're going to recommend an alternativer then pick something that at least has similar features - the only thing in common with your 2 options and the TZ10 is that they take photos.
Comparable alternative superzooms would be a Canon SX210/20 or a Sony HX5.

Got the Sony HX5V and have been very happy with it.
The HX5V, TZ7, TZ10 and SX210 etc are all very good cameras in the compact superzoon category.
For me, the HX5V just nudges it, but frankly you can't go too far wrong with any of them.

The guy was asking about an increase in low light quality, and all £300 or less superzooms have practically no discernible difference in low light image quality......the cameras I mentioned are the only way the guy will get a NOTICEABLE improvement in low light images, for the least amount of money and compactness.

didnt like the popup flash of the canon and the sony nex was until recently (after id bought the tz10) expensive for what it is and too bulky, pancake lens is pointless unless you are taking portraits....id consider the nex but pictures arent that sharp...the s95 (great sharp pics, ugly, popup flash annoying) was on my shortlist as was the Sony H55 (nice build, soft pics)and samsung wb650 (not bad just felt cheap, lots of features though, gps naff, soft pics)
