Thanks margisteve for the info, I only sighed up to Costco this week too... and didn't notice!
PS: You are correct about the warranty, I believe they have a 5 year, no quibble warranty! :w00t:...... That's American service for you!

I bought this camera from Costco in the summer for about £200.

Fantastic camera.

Amazon were selling this for £171 about a month ago. they've upped the price for the xmas period. they've also stuck 20-30 quid on the TZ7.

Good camera, except that flash is under-powered. Luckily I got mine at Costco so they took it back without any problems. Still looking for a replacement to my old one.

Last present!

im really hoping to find a new camera in the sales, im just not sure on direction, i like the tz7 but just wondering what the contenders to that are within reasonable budget.

how does this fair next to the Samsung st500?

TZ6 has smaller screen and no HD movie mode? Anything else?

The ones on my shortlist are Samsung WB550, Panasonic TZ7, Sony DSC-H20. Panasonic is supposed to be the best but most expensive. The Sony has recently has £10 knocked off at Amazon, but takes expensive memory cards. Well theres lots of differences I could go on about. Just hoping to get a bargain in the January sales atm.

I purchased this as a portable camera, it is very good, one of the best in its class..

However i also own a canon 50D and some L lenses

I know its like comparing apples and oranges, but i just dont feel comfortable using it.

so i just end up takeing my 50 when ever i need a camera,

But my wife and kids use this, as i'd never let the use the canon.

also look at the canon SX200 which are little better, and the canon G10/11 is one of the best compact, little pricecy,

These days SLR's have droped in price, a cheaper canon, sony nikon can be found for less than £300 with lens- which would be much better.

Anyone intrested in photography should go SLR, get a few books and do some googleing and once you masterd using the creative modes - you will notice the difference.

12x optical zoom!! Jesus, how far away from something can you be to still get an image as if your standing 2 feet away?

Put the extra cash into the tz7 red - a rather cool looking camera to say the least. :w00t::santa:

It's good as long as you can still get it this close to xmas!

err...........12x2= 24ft?!

This is an excellent comera. The best compact on the market, as stated it may not give the same results as an SLR but it is very close!

Brilliant camera. Paid £200 during the summer from comet and love it. Do not have anything HD so did not care about the HD video and apart from that its pretty much the same as a TZ7 so saved myself £80 at the time by buying the TZ6.

The differences are, HD mode, and a wider angle lense, the TZ6 is 28m and the TZ7 is 25m so not a huge difference I'd save the cash and get the TZ6 unless the above is important to you.

Amazing camera got one last year takes some epic photos if you set it up right, I also love HDR processing of photos.

This is indeed a great camera. Had mine 6 months and the wife dropped it so mines now an exspensive doorstop, just got a quote for repair for £225 lol.

+1 - I've got a DSLR and a compact. The compact comes everywhere with me in my bag as the DSLR is a bit more cumbersome - however, I have taken some awesome photos with it even if I say so myself!

I took an evening class this term "Introduction to Digital Photography" and learned about the creative zones and moving away from using "P" mode for everything - also learned that a little Photoshopping makes a massive difference to the final product.

such decisions, i haven't done any proper photography since collage in 19...or so ago and so have forgotten even the most basics of a real camera, I would love to get back to taking proper good photos but im also drawn to the aspect of having something so light that can be taken around in the pocket for those sudden moments, sadly my phone (htc hero) is only great in good light as there is no flash.

I bought this camera in summer for about £200. It's really, really good, and I take it everywhere with me.
Sold my big Canon as it was just too bulky and I wasn't using it.
This Panny gives great results but is simple to use.

You can get this from Very.co.uk for £163.15 delivered with 20% off voucher. Voted Cold.

not everyone wants to run the risk of using the codes from very so i dont think your cold vote is fair.

This is about standard price for this camera - no idea how this is hot.

Spend the extra 50 notes and get the TZ7.

could I suppose. The repair centre said it needed a new lens assembly. Basically when you take a picture some of the time it is out of focus?. the camera shop I wen to first said that it probably just needed an adjustment. I would sell it on....

Might as well pay the little extra for the TZ7 , Can be had for 214.99 from camerabox

Thats what i did

I bought the silver one , but they do all colours (red one is more expensive)

I have the TZ6 and it has a 25mm lens, the only difference is the TZ7 has full HD recording and a quick record button.

Indeed the TZ6 does have a 25mm lens like the TZ7, but lacks the HD video mode and has a 2.7" screen as opposed to the higher res 3" screen in the TZ7. However, please be aware that there seems to be a problem with the TZ7's screen, where loads of them have inexplicably cracked and smashed of their own accord ... as widely reported ] on here

I bought my TZ6 from Amazon about 6 weeks ago for £171 and am delighted with it.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago plus a camera case from Pixmania - ordered on a Saturday evening and it arrived on the Tuesday.
Net cost of £174.07 all in (includes £9.13 Quidco which is tracking nicely and £6 voucher available on this site).

I got a TZ7 last week to replace my TZ3 both are outstanding cameras. You simply cannot go wrong with the TZ range!

argos have got a better deal on the 10 megapixel sony cam

I agree
Been using TZ5 for past 12-18months. There are very few cameras with the same zoom & wide angle of TZ range.

Oooops  sorry I got confused I've got a TZ5! 10x optical and 28m lense! Your right of course the TZ6 & 7 are 12x optical and 25m lense.

Just gets confusing as there three models with not a huge amount of difference in spec but there is in price. Can't fault my TZ5 it's amazing and quite cheap at the moment.

:-D Then there's the TZ65 that is sold exclusively by Dixons/Currys/ PC World ... which is a cross between the TZ6 and TZ7, having the bigger, 3" screen, but no HD recording  ... but you won't wanna go there" :-D

There is also a ZX1 which is exactly the same as a tz7 but has only 8x optical zoom (25-200mm)

£174.99 at either amazon or Dixons

The amazing Sony WX-1 for the win!

Also ZX1 does not record stereo sound or record in AVCHD format like the TZ7 does...but does have a newer optical image stabalization...which is meant to be better.

does anyone by any chance know if the whatever happens protections that Dixons/Currys/PC World offer any good?

I know the TZ7 is £237 at Dixons.

dpreview did a group test of various wide angle superzooms including the TZ 6 & 7 a little while ago:-

dpreview.com/rev…om/

Personally I've been after a TZ6 for a while ( I don't need the video performance of the TZ7) and prices are starting to get seriously tempting now.
