Great price, I paid £150 for TZ65 only a few months ago

If you want some great pics this christmas this is what you should get.
Also if you have a Panasonic tv you can plug the sd card right into the tv to playback pictures, videos etc.

I could be wrong but I think the previous model (TZ7), was actually a better camera. Not voting.

Blasphemous

You're wrong and right. The TZ7 was superseded by the TZ10. The TZ8 supersedes the TZ6.

But the TZ7 is considered a better camera than the TZ8 - which is why it is actually still more expensive.

very good price .

Ive got over £100 of john lewis vouchers that i was hoping to buy a TZ7 with but now they have stopped selling it I was thining of the TZ10 instead but people still say that the TZ7 is better, picture quality wise. What to do what to do. Maybe i should sell the vouchers and buy from another vendor.

Excellent price, good camera, Hot!!!

As a previous TZ3, TZ5 and TZ7 owner I have recently bought the TZ10. Battery life is shorter than before but you can either 1. switch off the GPS or 2. buy a spare battery. Picture quality is quite superb with its 12x Leica lens, I really like the GPS function as it labels the picture with the name of the landmark and the menu function is very intuitive. Fantastic camera, bought in preference to the G2 and very happy.

Think I'd rather pay around £209 / £218 mark for the TZ10... not voting, more canvassing opinion.

The only difference between the TZ8 and the TZ10 is the TZ10 records video in stereo and has a GPS.

If they're important to you it's worth the premium, if not I'd question closely whether you want to pay extra just for the above.

Oh, and this is a very hot deal BTW. :o)

Doesn't the TZ10 use AVCHD lite rather than mjpeg on the TZ8?

The TZ8 has a smaller 2.7" screen which seems to get disproportionally large amounts of whinging than the 3" on the TZ10.

Otherwise yes, does seem more similar than I'd recalled from reading the reviews...

From Which: "The TZ8 records movies in the Motion-Jpeg format. This is best-suited to playback on a computer screen. The pricier TZ10 offers ACVHD-lite recording, which gives smoother playback on an HD TV than you'll get with Motion-Jpeg files."

or for £19 more you can have TZ7

TZ7 y'mean

TZ7 doesn't have some of the manual options like aperture priority etc. Still looks good, but if you want do have more control than just the pre-set options (24 of them) you can't. TZ8 looks pretty good for 165 despite my earlier comment.

is this better than Canon SX130?

The TZ10 has these extra functions:

1 High res 3" screen
2 AVCHD Lite HD movies
3 HDMI port for direct connection with TV
4 GPS
5 Stereo sound
5 Face Detection in Movie mode
6 One touch movie button

Are those extra functions worth an extra £44 / 26%? Hmm. Depends what you're using it for of course, but the movie stuff is questionable - frankly, if you want an HD video camera, this ain't it.

This is a good price for the TZ8, but the TZ10 is available from a UK seller on eBay for £195.89 inc p&p and I reckon for £29.90 the extra features are worth having.

There may be a debate about the best TZ for a particular user but one thing is certain - the TZ range of cameras are all excellent. We have a TZ4, TZ5, TZ65 and ZX1 in the house and there isn't a duff one amongst them. Just came back from a short holiday in Italy and I reckon at least 50% of the cameras in use out there were TZs; good news travels!

15 minute limit on movies is pants

15 minute limit on movies is pants

My understanding is that this is driven by EU import duties which are higher on camcorders than stills cameras (as defined by the 15min limit). Non European spec TZs don't have this cap.

But surely if you want to make frequent, longer movies you'd be better with a dedicated camcorder anyway?

I agree, if you're shooting more than 15 min videos then you want a camcorder...

Didn't some reviewers think the TZ10 took better pictures than the TZ7? Also does anyone know if there is any lag between pushing the shutter release and capturing the image please?

Which? doesn't cite the specific time, but gives the TZ7, TZ*8* and TZ10 all 4 stars. Other related timed values it does give...

TZ7
Start-up time (s) 2.48
Shot-to-shot time (s) 2.19
Hi-res burst mode (s/image) 0.53
Low-res burst mode (s/image) 0.36

TZ8
Start-up time (s) 2.27
Shot-to-shot time (s) 2.6
Hi-res burst mode (s/image) 0.45

TZ10
Start-up time (s) 2.5
Shot-to-shot time (s) 2.08
Hi-res burst mode (s/image) 0.41

Thank you s1m0nc

No worries. I still don't know which one to buy

Stuff it. Ordered the TZ8. Don't want the GPS rubbish anyway £50 is a bit much for a gimmick and a 10% bigger screen. I paid £500 for my first 3 megapixel, so it's pretty cheap all in all

I went for the TZ10, But I think they are both good

Ha. Nice. I was tempted, but I don't tend to share my photos with anyone except family anyway, so the geo-tagging isn't of great use - I can handle putting it in a folder called '2010-11-Egypt' or whatever. I'm sure I'll regret this decision in about 9 months time
