Great deal on a great camera. I bought the same model last year for £240, and was happy to get it at that price! Have taken some fantastic photos with it since then.

Others seen to think the same - it's got 4.5 stars from 88 customer reviews on Amazon.

Normally £299.... hmmmmm :-/

Most places I've seen are selling for £179. Still the cheapest though I guess.

Could do with finding it for around £63 cheaper myself. Have had my eye on it.

Haven't seen it for £299 in ages...or ever for that matter!

Think that's for the TZ10

Not worth anymore than above price , Can get a TZ7 for that.

TZ8 was around this price a few months ago, TZ7 is a better camera and around the same price, no brainer. TZ7 all the way, i'd even have it over its replacement the TZ10. (TZ10 replaced the TZ7, TZ8 replaced the TZ6)

Just some of the reasons
TZ8 screen size 2.7", TZ7 3.0"
TZ8 screen res 230k, TZ7 430k
TZ8 shutter speed 1/1300s, TZ7 1/2000s
TZ8 audio recording is mono, TZ7 is stereo
TZ8 HD Recording is MJPEG, TZ7 is AVCHD

Its cheaper and doesnt have the pointless battery draining GPS that has to be turned off everytime you turn the camera on. Might just be me but i tend to know where i've been when i look at a photo and dont need to rely on a GPS to tell me, might be on my own with that one though ...
Reviews tend to give the edge on picture quality to the TZ7 as well

they went back to the 2.7in screen because there were problems with the 3in screen on the tz7 cracking

I got a TZ7, after much research...fantastic picture quality- in good light-( low light performance is very poor); great display, but i would say get an SX210, S90 if price is right. TZ7 IS very sturdy- I came off my bike, got bloody and muddy; but the camera was fine, and it was on my hip at the time.I feared the worst...

I have both the TZ7 (gave it to the missus) and the TZ10. In my opinion, the 10 is undoubtedly the better machine for several reasons.......I'm sure you've read what they are.

WRT the GPS, we do a lot of travelling, especially cruises, and the GPS is fantastic when documenting pics. Yes, it does drain the battery but that in the 7 isn't too great anyway. I'd advise the purchase of a spare one if buying a Panasonic point and shoot.

If you can get the TZ7 much cheaper than the TZ10, then it should be considered but the 10 is going for nearly half the price I paid for mine which is a bloody bargain.

GPS does not have to be turned off every time you switch the camera on. GPS can be put into three different modes via the Q-Menu: On (all the time), On (only when the camera is on, called flight mode) and Off. You need to get your facts straight.

In any case, leaving GPS on is not as big a drain on the battery as people are making out.

How bizarre that the TZ7 is better than the TZ8. Panasonic haven't really thought their naming conventions through.

tz8 is newer than tz7 so that's one way of making sense of it. I was struggling to decide between 7 and 8 and ended up with the 8 in the end. its been reported that 7 takes better pictures but i'm more than happy with the quality of pictures from my 8. also i get to play around with the manual settings which cannot be done on the 7.

You forgot to add:
TZ8 Manual modes as well as auto, TZ7 auto only oO

I have had a few lumix cameras and indeed still own the tz4, returned them all due to none of them are any better than the TZ4 apart from movies that i really do not use, image quality is o.k but not brilliant. As always it is a compromise

I tried the TZ7 and very quickly went back to the TZ5 as it was a better feeling camera, ergonomically and it could take good picture indoors as well as outdoors, which the TZ7 couldn't.

Where can you get a TZ7 for this price (£163.49)?

I can't find a TZ7 for this price anywhere. Any ideas?

So in balance - the TZ6 and TZ7 have fewer "megapixels" crammed onto the same size sensor, so the theory is that they're slightly better in lower light situations than the TZ8 and TZ10 models that replaced them.
But the TZ6 and TZ7 are "auto only" and don't have any manual capability - so if you want a manual override option, the TZ6 and TZ7 aren't for you...

I got a TZ9 in August. Its a "Currys only model" (except that I got mine from eBay)....
Its a hybrid between the TZ8 and the TZ10. It has the 3" screen and stereo recording from the TZ10 but doesn't have the GPS or the AVCHD movie recording....

Paid £180 for mine then and I'm pleased with it. The TZ8 was about £190 then, so this price is good for the TZ8 if its what you want...

The zoom on the camera is great, although the low light capability isn't as good as my old Fuji F30.... I suspect that's just a factor of cramming more and more pixels onto the sensor - each pixel gets smaller - and the smaller the pixels, the less well they do in low light....

You would think that manufacturers would get it right, if they get a camera with good image quality. Just add perhaps manual control, i have several old cameras with 6 million pixel resolution and they are fine, come on do we really need 15 million pixels to produce 5 by 7 prints. Try to cram this many onto a small sensor and it creates more problems than it solves. Also a couple of dials to control aperture etc rather than messing about with menus would be better.

Interesting thread as I am on the look out for a new P&S for my wife to replace an aging Canon IXUS 50.

Have to say I am a DSLR user and its been a long time since I looked at P&S market and it is a complete minefield

I had ended up with the TZ 8 and TZ10 on short list and also a couple of IXUS models but if anyone could shed some light onto any good models that would be great and any models to avoid from experience?

Need something simple for her to use (poss with scene modes)
Decent Mega Pixel Count but stupidly high numbers not essential
Decent zoom (5x would be good)
Good picture quality inside and out
IS would be handy
720p movie mode (only if its half decent)
Quick operation and decent rechargeable battery also needed

The TZ10 ticks every box. You can also have some fun with its manual modes too. I paid a great deal more than it's going for today (received it before release date) but in my opinion, it's still a bargain. Great pics, video, zoom, sound, features, build quality and now great price. Fits in most pockets and it's a doddle to use too. What more can you possibly want with a point-and-shoot??

Panasonic TZ10 Black £220 minus £30 Panasonic cashback. Bargain for £190

Duncan,

Forgot to mention that the indoor photos that I have taken have been very good and not as bad as some suggest. The battery lasted me all day (lots and lots of photos) when I went on a cruise holiday this year. I did buy the spare battery but it was never used, even with the GPS running.

Thanks for the info - The TZ10 was originally top of the list spec wise but there are just so many conflicting "reviews" out there these days. Will pop into a shop and have a play on her behalf (she will just want to turn it on and take a picture)
