I have been thinking about buying this TV for some time. At this price it looks like a bargain. If you can make some payment in store before 31 July you get the free Panasonic 5 Year Guarantee.

(I think Laskys are also doing the same deal but no guarantee)

As Sound & Vision have this TV in store you could ask John Lewis to price match, but I'm keen to support local business! (Bolton/Manchester)

(PS - first post - be gentle!!)

Im toying with buying this TV, but the low res (1024x768) and large screen size (42") kind of put me off, I have bought a shed load of HD DVD movies and I think I should get a 1080p screen to do them justice!

Great price tho, HOT!

Don't worry about the Res of 1024x768 ....i have a Philips 42 " at same Res
and xbox HDDVD player and it shows off what HD can really do even at this Reolution.......i say go for it..........Unless you have the eyes of a Golden eagle 1080p IMHO is not really worth it at the moment ..........count how many progs on sky and Virgin media you get and count how many are on SD .......doesn't add up in my opinion at the mo to justify 1080p.
go for it Panny 42 with 5year gtee at £624.95 ..............HOT.

well to me, it looks like standard dvd is closer to this screen res than 1080p

Screen res = 1024x768 786,432 pixels
Standard DVD = 720×576 414,720 pixels
HD DVD / BLURAY = 1920x1080 2,037,200 pixels

But contrary to the pixel counts, and screen res - everyone I have spoken to, including yourself has said the same thing - Ignore the numbers and watch the screen!

Good Deal , where does it say they are doing the 5 year deal. On the Panasonic web site it does not list them as one of the dealers ?

Re Guarantee - yes Panasonic website does list them - VBA t/a Sound & Vision.

I have been in store and they are definitely participating in the 5 year Guarantee promotion.

Voted Hot. 1080p isn't important to me as I'll only be using this TV for standard freeview and standard DVD viewing. I'll be viewing at least 10ft away so I wouldn't notice the difference if I had a 1080 feed & TV.

If you haven't got blu-ray/HD DVD or a 1080p games console you don't need to spend more. This TV is better than many 1080p sets. There are no 1080p HD broadcasts and not likely to be for many years.

BTW Digital Direct inc. del & Laskys are currently selling at the same price.

Also, the higher resolution 42'' Pannys consume about a third more power. This really is a great TV and at this price you can't go wrong.

Thanks for the info and deal Boome . I had looked at an old link to the guarantee they were doing at Christmas .

Now £609.99

Amazon and Laskys have it at £613 including delivery, but dont suppose Panasonic's 5 year gurantee covers Amazon?

Laskys and Sound & Vision have a retail outlet so you could always ask John Lewis to price match this which will automatically include their 5 year guarantee.

Now £609.99

has the price gone up ?? I click on the link and it shows £684.99??

still a great price but I would buy this tv now at £609!!!
