Went out to buy a cheap camcorder to take to Valencia next week and went round to the Curry's sale, etc Made up my mind on this model after chatting to people but thought the 179.99 they were all asking was a bit steep. Came home and checked and found this on Amazon... cant find anyone anywhere near it and I have bought one.
If you are looking for a cheap SD camcorder with good reviews this could be it...

I'll be there! but it looks like the little aussie whinger is having problems with his hand so he cant race properly...:p

Once back from there we are straight out to the Algarve to watch the last round of WSBK at the new Portimao track ..... the camcorder will be busy.....

This is not too bad, I got mine for about the same price from Empire Direct, which I'd probably recommend as they don't mess around with getting it despatched like Amazon seem to. Sometimes you can wait a few days before they ship it.

looked everywhere but cant find the answer to this...
Is this any better then a sony DV camcorder that i have in terms of picture quality?
Thanks in advance

I think it's probably not as DVD quality as they claim. Certainly my Sony DVD camcorder has a better picture. The good thing about this is the pocket size, and the fact you can get four hours of high quality footage on a 16GB SDHC card. The Sony DVD cam can only record for 20 minutes at high quality before the disc is full.

This is why I went for it in the end, there is no doubt in a short time we will see HD camcorders falling in price so it seemed no point in paying out loads for one at the present time. My priorities became the portability of this one, I picked it up in Curry's and except for the chains+alarm cables it was really light and easy to carry, second was it uses the SD cards and I bought a 16Gb class6 from an amazon partner for only £19. So much better than tapes and much easier for transferring to pc...

Yeah I checked in the Fareham store, £169.99 now....

Does this shoot regular 25fps PAL standard video?

There seems to be an awful lot of of these devices using 30fps (like nearly all digital cameras) which is not great for compatibility with a lot of UK TVs.

Yeah, you're right on there. I found that I hardly used me DVD camcorder because I couldn't be bothered with the responsibility of carrying it around on holiday, almost literally an albatross around my neck for ruining my fun. I thought about HD camcorders but their size and the fact they're prohibitively expensive put me off. I also heard that you can't transfer their footage to DVD which was probably the biggest turn off.

I think it does, it certainly works with Windows Movie Maker and DVD Maker provided you change the file expention to .mpg.

cheaper by a couple of quid, not too far though

I bought one of these in the US when the had just been released in April. Image quality was poor - IMO and not really any better than my regular digital camera taking video - so I returned it. Maybe check reviews on Amazon.com (3 of the 9 reviews give it 1 star but the others think it's good) or look for clips to download and see if it's going to match your expectations.

I ended up with the Canon TX1 which was about the same price at the time (=150GBP) and it's many times better - a bit funky and not without its niggles (it's odd to hold and the video files are huge). But it takes HD video, has excellent sound and optical image stabilisation.

Not voting either way.

It was actually £138.86 after Quidco, like you say only a couple of quid.

Price has gone up to £176 now on Amazon.

Price still the same on Amazon, but have to wait 2-4 weeks for delivery. On the right "More buying choices".
£176 is from Pixmania.

Oh yes, thanks for pointing out, I didn't realise they did that. All that does is put me off more, I have purchased from Pixmania before and both times the goods conked out after short period of time.

The other deal is still cheaper @ £139.99 before voucher and quidco and it is showing in stock on Empire Direct site so still worth noting on this one so people can make a choice.

Its says back in stock on the 24th so the option is back unless you need straight away

I've just received an Argos leaflet with this camcorder advertised at £146.66 from 29th October to 4th November.
