WOW:viking:

Come on.....
I've posted it a month ago for 684 quid. And the heat was almost 1K.....
SERIOUSLY HOT. Really.
H&R

How was this tv reviewed?

Voted hot - good VFM

Looked on the Panasonic web site and compared it to the other 42" plasmas....appears to be the oldest TV, and not the highest spec in some areas BUT appears to be approx £250 - £300 cheaper than the other panasonics, that have slightly better specs.

hows the 'motion' on this for footie...blurred balls or what ?
thanks.

I'm looking for a new tv but plasma's power consumption has always put me off abit personally, Especially considering the rising electricity prices. Great price though as i am considering it.

Very good price.

I second mykaloen's question,,,,,,,,.....

8ms so still quite high and old

im looking for a tv like this (or a sammy) in the jan sales for around £500

its looking like im gonna be able to buy a sweet tv

Its a great TV for the Price, but not got Freesat or 24 true cinema built in like there other new models Panasonic Viera PZ81B ,but this is atleast £250.00 cheaper.
Voted HOT.

A very very good tv at a stunning price. Better than the 70B, not as good as the 80B but still, for this money it's argueably a better deal than the Sony V4000.

Heat and Rep, you can rarely get a standard def. 42" plasma in this price, and for Panasonic and full 1080p, this is a complete bargin!!

Heat and Rep added.
Great deal.

wow 412 watts an hour, thats nearly twice as much as most LCDs even if it does fluctuate.

Also comet have it down as not supporting 24p Playback, but Panasonics website says it does.

comet.co.uk/sho…ion

Also only has 2 HDMI sockets...

Im glad I got in on the Samsung LE40A756 deal, much better TV though they are different (plasma/LCD).

Thats what puts me off plasma tv's is the power consumption, In the long run they definately cost more than lcd tv's.

Think I might order this, can anyone recommend anything better? The only thing putting me off is that it has no pc input.

pfft. As long as you have a video card that does DVI (30 quid?), you can plug it into HDMI with a 3 quid adapter.

Rich.

This does support 24fps playback. Also it is very high on power draw, significantly more than most 720p TVs, although its not as bad compared to other 1080p displays.

Excellent deal though, very hot.

I have the 37" version and I can confirm that this is a good tv esp in SD. When I bought it there was a big differnce in price and reviews between the 80B and 8B versions. I get the impression that this is a low cost version made for Comet. Despite this I would agree that this is a good deal but not exceptional as it would have been if it was the 80B version.

Good TV, but I personally wouldn't touch it. The difference between the PZ8 and the PZ80 is astonishing when you see them next to each other. Honestly, go in store to view this TV before you buy. This has basically the same specs as the Panasonic PX70 but with 1080p, which is well over a year old.

I would rather sacrifice the 1080p and get the higher colour gradients in the 42PX80 than go for this model. Before people shout at me saying "BUT ITS A BARGAIN", I know its a great price, but I just want to make people aware of the differences first. If you go in store and look at them before you buy, you'll see what I mean.

I'd have to agree with you. Peeps should look at this instore - the difference is definitely apparent. I'm holding out for the TH42PZ80 to dip below £650

Personally i have a Samsung LE40A656 which cost me £720 4/5 months ago, It is one of the best reviewed tv's on the market & uses 161 watts compared to this plasma's 412 watts. An extra 251 watts an hour is alot i think over the course of a year or two that will amount to a good few hundred pounds (prices will no doubt go up aswell on electricity).
Personally i'm looking for this panasonic's quality level but in lcd instead of plasma. If this tv was lcd i would have bought one for my dad for xmas but unfortunately i'm still waiting for the right deal.

I'm waiting for the Samsung LE40A656, Sony KDL40V4000, or something of similar quality levels for under £600

251 watts an hour, 3 hours a day, 340 days a year, 10p/kWh? £26 a year.

I really like my Panasonic TH42-PX80B. Having compared it to the TH42-PX8B, the picture was much better - and the surround of the panel was of a much higher quality - both aesthetically and materially.

720p LCDs, you mean?

2 HDMI sockets is enough for most people. No, that Samsung is not much better, in fact, it isn't even better.

I notice on this site you need to know your stuff or you look plain dumb trying to be smart but damn I have learnt a lot lol

On at 7am and off at midnight (17 hours) would cost around £250 a year - a staggering figure! An LCD set would probably cost around half that.

On the upside Plasmas run warm so come winter you could save on heating!

Some people may laugh but this is actually a very valid point when it comes to energy saving and working out how much energy / money you will save / use on an item. Obviously though it depends on the climate where you live and therefore how much of the year you spend heating you house / flat.

That's a perfectly valid point in the winter, but bear in mind that the last thing you want on a sweltering hot summer's day is a TV that's pushing heat out like a radiator! You can stand in John Lewis and just feel the sheer volume of heat coming off these things.

Sounds like you are in more need of getting a life than a plasma!

17 hours a day of telly watching? Even I don't watch that much and I'm bone idle. Are you in prison or a secure hospital?

Sounds fair enough to me, after all this is a deals website, we all want to save money!. I have had both a 42" Panasonic Plasma and a Sony 40" 1080p LCD, the freeview/Sky picture on the Plasma was better, but the LCD won on games and HD material. The Sony LCD only seems to use half the power the Panasonic Plasma did though.

Given a couple of months new technology will start to filter through again with LCDs using LEDs as a backlight and power use will be reduced by 1/3 and colour reproduction increased.

Some lovely people in here! There are plenty of people who are confined to bed, in wheelchairs, or otherwise incapacitated, who get a lot of pleasure out of watching TV all day - and why shouldn't they?

I'm not saying this guy is - just that some of these remarks are unnecessary.

hehe i hardly even watch telly! I'm an internet freak! Its just that i have 2 preschool kids and the first thing they do is put cartoons on. Then the missus gets home and watches her soaps/american crime dramas etc. Thanks for the replies tho guys, maybe gonna pick this baby up after. I can turn the central heating off when it gets installed!

Hi,

Do you reckon John Lewis would price match this, very tempted to purchase one, Might come down after christmas though?

Cheers,
Dave

This is actually an excellent price, currently £736.99 (and out of stock) in the Panasonic staff shop!

I'd personally give it a miss though. I don't think 2 HDMI sockets are enough and it lacks the quality of the higher models in the range.

If you want a good 1080p picture, buy a higher model in this range. I don't see any point in going Full HD otherwise.

John Lewis shops (not johnlewis.com) will match it if it's a price which is actually available to anybody walking into a Comet store.

They're unlikely to match it (though it's worth a try) if it's a price avaiable only online for store pickup.

If you see what I mean.
