hey, so i was looking for a new 50 inch TV and came across this. i know its a panasonic and may not attract others but being decent spec and decent price thought it was an alright deal. apparently it was originally £700 and now only £379 aint bad, had a look elsewhere and closest was about £30 more.

Richer Sounds doing the 500B version for £399 with a 5 year warranty at the minute.

Also there's a 50" Panasonic cheap from their e-bay store (refurb)
Think it's around £250.

True, but some people just want a cheap giant tv!
Rather have a smart TV myself. Voted hot anyway

Which is awful ? Why would you buy a vestel? Presume because it's £250? Worth spending more for wifi and smart (and real Panasonic )

They were in the plasma days

The A400 is truly, totally rubbish. I have the 40 inch and I'm returning it. The problem? It's really, really dim. No matter what I do, blacks are grey or indigo blue (if I want to still see some detail) and whites are light grey!
It was easily beaten - nay, DESTROYED! - on brightness by a 6 year old entry level Sony. You know these bright sunny days we've been having? Well, my living room curtains are quite thin and let a fair bit of ambient light through. On this tv, I could barely see ANYTHING, the sunlight was completely defeating it, whereas the Sony was totally unfazed. The Sony also has much more vibrant colours that just pop, with this, no matter how much I would adjust its levels, it was always so dull. Also, the backlighting around the edges is shockingly uneven, with dark and light patches all around. To compound this, whenever you get dark scenes in something, some automatic dimming process kicks in and it turns an already difficult to see scene into almost total darkness (and that's even when watching at night, so no sunlight to contend with). It's crazy that they would further cripple an already poorly performing screen in this way. Seriously, do not buy this, get a Sony - ANY Sony! Their current entry level sets are miles better than this! I'm no Panny hater, BTW, I have a few of their products I like, though in the interest of full disclosure, I do have a fair few more Sony products, but that's because after testing and trying them out and judging them in an unbiased manner, I found them to be better. (Plus, quite a few of them, like my Minidisc portables, Hi-Fi Minidisc deck and tape deck, tape walkman, various earphones, shortwave radio, Hi8 camcorder and top-of-the-range microcassette recorder are from the golden age of Sony in the 90s! :))
