This TV retails for £899 in JL, Currys, Comet. Richer Sounds sell at £799.

Just contacted my local JL in Watford to have them price match Richer Sounds, but surprisingly heard that they have matched their instore price to £729 (JL website price is still £899!), with free 5 years guarantee!!

I can not wait to see the result of Which magazine's test (due early May), as I was warned that their price may revert to the original one anytime!!

Great Footballer, great TV

Yo can't go wrong with Viera.

Past it now....the footballer not the TV!! :-)

This is an excellent TV. You can't go wrong. If your looking for a TV buy that asap!!!

720p tho..

If you do want to make sure you get the full HD experience at this point in time, i'd go for 1080p.\

P.S - Still an excellent deal for those who isn't too fussed!

Excellent find. No John Lewis in Northern Ireland tho

Under 50" a waste of time paying extra for 1080p. The picture quality for both SD and scaled 1080i/1080p on this plasma puts any sub £1000 TV to shame.

Silly question - but, if that's now the in-store price, can't you just pop back to RS (not far from where I live!) and price match them against JL's new price?
Of course, you won't get the 'free' 5yr warranty, though.

I bought the 37" version of this telly last month.
Fantastic picture well recommended.

Richer Sounds in Belfast will pricematch any brick or online store. Sound and Vision and empire direct both have this TV for £729. You will have to pay 10% of purchase price for a 5yr warranty from RS though.

However I would add, that the sound is pants!!
You definitely need speakers etc.

This model will actually process a 1080p signal (over HDMI) as with last year's model - px70 - granted it's not 'Full' 1080p due to the lack of screen resolution - but it does accept and display a 1080p signal which looks very nice!
BTW - this can be had for £665 from Dixons online using the £20 coupon and buying on an Egg credit card albeit without the 5 year guarantee!

looking for a 37" tv maybe toshiba, samsung, or panny

what are my cheapest options

i did see a couple on here a few weeks back but cannot find it now

any advise really appreiated - what to go for etc

smarty - my advice to you would be, that unless the place where you will put the tv will only take a 37" screen max, then I would look to get a 42" - we got a 37" first, thinking that a 42" would be waaaay too big - when we got it in the room though - it was simple to see that a 42" would have easily fit!! - so we swapped and got a 42"!!!!
The tv on offer in this thread really is a steal - particularly if you get it from Dixons!

Buy cheap, buy twice (or be disapointed with the image quality)

go for the TH37PX80

Deffo agree with Uridium - the way I put it to people looking to buy a new TV - It's the one item that you'' probably stare at for 2-3+ hours per day every day for 5+ years - so buy a good one!

i bought the px80 last month. You wont get abetter picture for the price!

I am just waiting for my sky HD box to turn up. I have had HD NASA footage played on it via my laptop and it looks superb.
buy buy buy

I was told that Sky HD broadcast in 720p, can anyone confirm this?

Correct Sky HD is broadcast in 720p

All Sky HD broadcasts are transmitted in 1080i that can be scaled to 720p

en.wikipedia.org/wik…_HD

so are you saying to avoid toshiba and samsung, if so what panny and what is the best price around ???

thanks so much

I wouldn't say avoid Tosh and Sammy - but I have last year's model of this Panna and it is absolutely fabulous - picked up a ton of awards too.
And I repeat, for a possible £665 from Dixons online - this is a steal!

is there a 37" version of the panny and at what price could i get it???

why are you fixed on getting a 37"?
did you catch my previous comment about screen size?

Yes there is TH37PX80. It's only about £50 cheaper as the Panasonic list price for this 42" model is £899. If you buy the 37" unless you have a tiny room you'll be forever wishing you had bought the 42".

The 37" can be had from Dixons using the same coupon and an Egg card for £576 - don't know if that is the absolute cheapest - but I doubt it can be had for much cheaper?

For comparison - it's £799 @ John Lewis

Exactly as I was saying before - see, me and Uridium saying the same thing! Unless your living room is the size of a small shed, you'll be wanting the 42"!

Get a price match from John Lewis with S&V Bolton, your 37" then comes with 5 years JL warranty for ~£620.

Got the 37" myself and it's great, do not regret getting the 42" at all

I cannot understand the obsession of bigger is always better, if you want a 37" get that.........christ we had a tiny telly when I was a kid and until 6yrs ago only had a 21".

Thanks For Advice, I Was Going To Put It On A Glass Stand As I Cannot Really Put It On The Wall As I Have A Radiator Below - Correct Me If I Am Wrong Here.

I Havent A Small Room - Family Room - About 15 X 13 - My Previous Tv Is A Panny 32", Not Flat Screen Ofcourse So I Thought A 32" Would Be Enough Of A Size But If The 42 " Isnt That Much More I May Consider

So Youthink 665 Is About The Cheapest Price For 42" Of It???

So why did you not buy another 21" to replace it? Why did you go up to a 37"?

Glass stand should be fine as long as it can take the weight - i wouldn't put it in front of a radiator or hang it on the wall above it either (unless the radiator will not be switched on!)
Without the 5 year guarantee - £665 is really cheap - the SRP is £899!!!

Was The John Lewis Price Not £ 729 And Dixons With Voucher And Egg Card Something Like £ 665??

Trying To Get The Best Price Here

Ok guys can we clear a few things up. How do i get John lewis to price match this TV, or the 37" one (preferably as its my room). What store can i quote so john lewis can price match?

Thanks

As the OP states - the instore price at JL is £729 with 5 year guarantee - Dixons without the 5 year guarantee, using voucher and an Egg card is £665.

It all comes down to whether you want the 5 year guarantee!

JohnBall - afaik - you just ring the john lewis store and ask them to match a price - but i don't know where the cheapest place is for the 37"

the 37" is £606 with a 20£ off voucher from dixons. But thats on the website, so im not sure if dixons will be selling it for the same in store?

Most glass stand's specify the maximum size and weight of TV they will hold. Amazon has a good range at decent prices.

Go for at least a 3yr warranty. repair prices should you have issues in 13mths time are often higher than the TV's value.

An aftermarket 3yr warranty for a 42" Plasma will cost you in region off £150-£180; if you can get a 5yr warranty from JL then do it. JL's Aftersales is superb as well.

]£769.90 with 5yr warranty @ Richer Sounds. They say ]they price match … ]£769.90 with 5yr warranty @ Richer Sounds. They say ]they price match tellys, but, only like-for-like with 5yr warranty's.Therefore, the John Lewis price is better.Which means that RS will match it, and better it by £25.Which means you should be able to get Richer Sounds to price match

Read the rest of the prints: '-When purchased with a Panasonic DMREZ27'
Otherwise, RS with 5 year guarantee is working as £879.95.

cant really get JL to match RS as it is only in a 8 mile radius and i am aberdeen.

any suggestions
