Appears not to currently support Netflix 4k
Shame - other than that, it ticks my boxes for the price. help.netflix.com/en/…877

Just to let people know, this tv is not a proper Panasonic made tv it's a Vestel re-badge job.

Nice specs for the price and all that but this is basically a premium badge on a budget generic product. Not criticising Vestel TV's but just writing this so people know all the facts before purchasing.

The 55AS650B is Panasonic made, not a re-badge.

What's the point in even doing this??!
"Okay guys, what we've decided is that there needs to be more consumer confusion out there"....at least, I presume that's how the board meeting went...?

UHD Sport will look awful on this due to the dire refresh rates on these low end TV's

Uhd porn will look ok though.

I read that the 400 series was proper, and it was the 300 series that was Vestel, in a few different threads actually.

I always stick to LG and Samsung, no badge engineering there...

That all depends on how quick their movements are....

Vestel rebadged under the Panasonic name? What a bloody stupid idea...

is this TV any good!? I'm looking for a 40-42 inch TV, that has 3D upto this price range, if anybody can recommend any!? thanks

Hi mate, haven't personally for any specific recommendations but in this price range you are better off looking at 1080p sets (with 3D if you require it).

Should be able to find a mid to high range set under £500 for a ~42" set from Samsung or LG (brands I personally trust). These 4k sets at this price range are entry - low end sets.

As others have said, this doesn't have have HVEC codec for a lot of 4k streaming such as Netflix which makes it pointless for 4k anyway (unless you have a UHD set top box)

i hear alot about Backlight clouding issues on pannys also

Its not hard to spot a Vestel - I had no idea this was a re-badge but noticed that the stand and style was very similar to the 65" Digihome set being sold on Tesco Direct. The picture of the rear inputs on the Panasonic is dead give away, definitely not the usual Panasonic layout but the newer Vestel layout.

Panasonic blows lg out the water on mid to high level sets

john lewis have it at same price, so includes 5 yr warranty

johnlewis.com/sto…740

Also same price at richer sounds with 6 year warranty

Debenhams plus == buyitdirect, worth going somewhere else

thanks, was tempted by this deal also after hearing these newer panny use VA panels (prefer the deeper blacks), do you have any personal choices or recommendations ?

I'm not really into 4K myself but I'm reasonably sure all the 40inch 4K TV's on sale use the same or similar VA panel - only Samsung and Innolux manufacture 40" 4K Panels so no worries of being suck with an LG IPS panel with grey blacks regardless what the make is - I also prefer deep blacks.

I wouldn't say this was a particularly bad deal, on paper anyway its excellent value especially if you're after 3D. As said previously John Lewis and Richer have price matched and with them you get their extended warranties. I just avoid anything Vestel made (unless really cheap) because I've seen how poorly they're made, especially electronically but this is something you don't really have to worry about if you get a free extended warranty.

If I was after a 40" 4K TV it would have to be either a Samsung or an LG but ultimately it depends on what features you want.

These TVs do have HEVC to allow netflix 4k.

Then why is it not listed? I thought these lacked the HEVC. Until I can see otherwise, I wouldn't take a punt.
