2 HDMI would be fine for me, i'm only watching tv. What do you think is restrictive about having only two?

You could just buy a HDMI switch if you needed more...

Sky box, media players, game systems, blu-ray/dvd systems, sound-bars/systems etc nuff said. I have not marked any heat because this will be good for some but poor for most.

i need more HDMI and higher refresh rate for games and sport but if you don't want those things then this will be perfect.

it does have wifi though so it's cheap for a tv with wifi built in

Save £10 when you spend more than £100 with O2 priority

This is hot for the price, I need 5 HDMI ports so doesn't matter if it has 2,3 or 4. I have an HDMI switch solution so only one visible cable coming from the TV...

I think i'd prefer that option in that case, I don't want a multitude of wires all over the place! Thanks for the info guys.

I saw this and thought it was a good deal. However, I want a tv for my son who only really uses it for his Xbox One so in view of the comments about gaming, can anyone give me any guidance on what refresh rate is recommended? Would you really notice the difference when gaming between say 50 and 100 or even 400Hz

This is a set made exclusively for Currys to their specification.

It will use basic components & won't be in the same league as a typical Panasonic TV.

You'd need the 5 year warranty on this

Interesting comment. I looked to find alternatives and couldn't so you may well be right about the spec being exclusive to Currys. How do you know, just out of interest?

"Panasonic AS5xx
The 5 series will be available in three variants with very basic features. It is called AS530 in USA and AS520 and AS500 in Europe (difference is design)."

Sold exclusively at Curry's is not the same as made exclusively for Curry's... Unless you have a source I haven't seen?

100Hz is easily enough for gaming, and Xbox one has a native refresh rate of 60Hz anyway (maybe someone more technical can confirm)

I've just seen on the Panasonic website it says: "Available exclusively at Currys and PC World"

Comparing the 500 and the 520 on the Panasonic web site, the only listed difference is Freetime - panasonic.com/uk/…5D=

A set with Freetime should cost more but the 520 us cheaper than the 500 & 600!

Obviously he was misinformed, or worded it incorrectly. In fact, the suggestion that Panasonic would build a low quality product to the specification of Currys would hurt the Panasonic brand - having reread your original post you did state 'basic components' rather than low quality so the point is rather less important. Its a good TV for the cost.

Anyone seriously into sound, games and blurays will get an av receiver so will only need one hdmi.

Great price, but as with most TV's the built in speakers will be poor.

Invest in a surround sound, this would also provide additional inputs.

Hmm this TV or the LG at same price?

In fairness the sound is actually pretty good. Better than some of the other models i've seen/heard, including Sony.

TX-40AS640 also exclusive to Currys/PC World and gets Highly Recommended from HDTV Test

On the Currys vs regular Panasonic I had been looking into what I presume is the model up, the tx40as640b which is also exclusive to currys. Here is a review.

The headline is, bizzarely, that the Curry's only models use a better panel (VA vs IPS).

I was in a Panasonic store yesterday asking about what they could offer since the local Curry's has closed, and the equivalent they have (tx42as650b) is not recommended by hdtvtest. As I understand it the IPS panel of the 'non Currys' versions are now supplied by LG with Panasonic tech behind them. The results sound disappointed.

While not conclusive at all - this all suggests that there is no problem with these being Currys only, and it may possibly mean a better picture!

According to Panasonic site
*ITV Player is available in England, Wales & The Channel Islands
So us Norn Irelanders and Scotlanders are left out again..
Looks like Samsung is the only option for us.
Good offer though!!
cheers

HDTV Test is a very good technical site for HD TV reviews, I agree with this post, if they say it's good, it's good!

2 hdmi is fine for most people I would think, sky box takes one and then xbox one is also my dvd player
