I have been looking for a good television for a while now and after much study I have finally settled on the Panasonic Viera TX-P42GT50B. The price at Fenwick in Newcastle is £599 so I sent a price match request to John Lewis yesterday and have just heard back that they will match it. This price is so much cheaper than any competitor, at least £850 just google it. I don't know if Fenwick have made a mistake but it matters not as John Lewis will match it and that's all that matters.

You can claim two free pairs of active 3D glasses by redemption from Panasonic. In addition, John Lewis also have two extra optional offers, one has £50 off a Panasonic soundbar, or the offer I went for, which was a free Panasonic Blu-ray Player (Model number DMP-BDT120EB).

So I'm assuming this is only valid in stores which are near Fenwick stores? So is this in store only?

Must admit I've never heard of Fenwicks but that's because they've only got a handful of stores.

John Lewis will only price match a bricks and mortar store but their offer is online. I've just ordered it and will be getting it delivered on the 27th. I know it's too late for Christmas but that was never a concern for me. I was going to wait for the New Year sales until I happened upon this.

Can you confirm how you got the free blu ray player - I only saw the link to the £50 off the soundbar.
In terms of everyday use, would it not be better to get the Panasonic Plasma that Tesco have for under 300? I'm awaiting John Lewis to get back to me on a price match on that one. My sky box will not broadcast in 1080p and the PS3 likewise. So an HD ready will be all one needs surely? Plus if you have a laptop or tablet, why would you need Youtube, Skype and all these other things on your telly? I guarantee you will never use any of these "smart" features you are paying a premium for

If you want that television from Tesco's then I am sure that will work great for you. I have a fussy partner who watches a lot of sport and the television I have chosen in terms of picture quality, delivers what we need.
WIth the free blu ray player, I presume you can get Avatar and Titanic 3D free too.

Have sent my price match request off, and phoned Fenwicks who confirmed the £599 price. Top deal.
Can someone reconfirm the price at the Fenwicks store as I just got told it was £999.

It is £599, I'm not sure why you were given a different price. Perhaps they are fed up with people ringing up and know they are being pricematched against John Lewis' price of £999?
i saw somebody mentioning this on avforums but assumed they had made a mistake as a gt50 for £600 is a bargain but looks like fenwicks are selling this cheap. fingers crossed my price match gets accepted as i don't think JL will get the samsung e6500 back in so this will have to do
Edited by: "chevychase" 20th Dec 2012
I hope that is the case as I have called a number of times and been told 999. Still you can have some heat for a fantastic deal! I hope my John Lewis price match comes through #fingerscrossed
Perhaps I should have waited until I had this TV in my cold clammy hands before posting, as I'd hate my own deal to fall through. Bwahahahaha. oO

would john lewis price match nationwide even though the stores in Newcastle as I'm up in Glasgow. still great deal for those who get it!
I know I'm going to sound really stupid for saying this, but can you just confirm this is the store your talking about : fenwick.co.uk/new…tle.

Kieran, it doesn't matter where you live. The criteria for any price match is that it is being sold in a bricks and mortar shop that is within 7 miles of a John Lewis store. You don't have to live near that store as John Lewis will still sell it online to you.
ah right, as long as there a JL near the store in Newcastle its fine

Yep. And this particular store is right next door to John Lewis.

You don't sound stupid, so don't worry. Yes that is the store in question. John Lewis checked with them today, as did Lewy69, and that is the price. Hopefully John Lewis will have kept a record of the price and just accept any price matches, so just submit your price match request and go from there. . Good luck.
Bargain at this price! heat added, but I doubt JL will match it. Lets see how honest they are!

Just to be clear, the PS3 is capable of 1080p output. Most people wouldn't see a vast difference between 720p and 1080p material at a sensible distance from the set, and up until recently I've happily lived with an HD-Ready Panasonic plasma set. Depending on your needs both the Tesco and JL offers are good deals if you want a decent quality set that's not LCD-based.
Does anyone know how to make the reviews clickable?
I've just had John Lewis logistics ring me to arrange/confirm the delivery date, so I'm certainly getting it. Roll on the 27th.
great post. I have now submitted a price match with the details you posted. This is a fantastic deal.

Thanks

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Panasonic Viera TX-P55VT50B TV.

I have contacted Direct TVs and discussed their offer with them, this TV is available to in-store customers only and not available through delivery from the store. Unfortunately as the competitor’s nearest store is a considerable distance from your location the offer they are making is materially different to our own; we offer the product to all our customers who can have the item delivered. Therefore, I cannot match the price offered.

If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website:

I am sorry that I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion.

Yours sincerely,

Your comment and JL request was for a totally different model and store/price match deal to this deal!

Delightful91

I have raised my price match request earlier today, JL have acknowledged receipt, but as yet are yet to confirm acceptance.

Good find if it comes through! I would have preferred a similar discount deal on the 50" version, but Fenwick said they do not stock the 50" model.
I should have also said that Panasonic are also giving a 5 year warranty on this and most models at the moment.

I understand that, but both JL and Fenwick have stores in Newcastle and Central London. So there would not be a material difference in the deal.

Here's hoping, although it is not the end of the world if the price match is not confirmed again for additional customers.
Cheers Delightful91 for posting the deal.

I have submitted a price match, so fingers crossed
With the John Lewis claim form, what info do I need to input into the "Information about additional charges:
(e.g. installation, delivery or warranty charges)" box please? Im no where near Newcastle, but the Cardiff John Lewis is just down the road...but theres no Fenwick there. Do they expect me to pickup from store at Cardiff or will delivery still be free?

This TV was top of my wanted list but the price was previously putting me off...the reviews make it a fab TV!!

Also what is the correct name/address for the store that others have put on the form for Fenwicks?

my closest fenwicks is newcastle so i copied the address from the fenwicks website, all the warranty stuff i left blank

i was in same boat, it's a nice tv but not worth a grand compared to the samsung 51e6500 which is a much better bang for buck buy and has less problems. But a gt50 for £600 is too good a bargain to pass up even if it does suffer from more IR and DFC
The 5 year warranty is offered by panasonic themselves...the qualifying retailers include Fenwicks...

Stick NE99 1AR in the search
Just phoned Fenwick Newcastle and they said the price is £999. I asked them about the £599 price and they said it was selling for £599 last week but not this week.

I agree entirely, but what are the IR snd DFC problems?

Little chance of getting a price match now then, wish it was last week. Just have to hope that JL will lower the price in the New Year!

IR - image rentention , for example i saw a gt50 in a shop with snooker on, a ghost image of a long shot of the table could be seen once the scene changed to a close up of the player . The samsung is "bullet proof" according to some owners on avforums and is less prone to IT

DFC - dynamic false contouring - this thread explains it better than i could avforums.com/for…tml

as you can see a lot of owners rate the samsung less problematic in the dfc department

it seems the price match isn't going to happen so i'll try and buy a samsung in the new year, hopefully before it gets even harder to get hold of. just wish JL would get stock back in as i really want a 5yr warranty
how does this compare to the vt50??
I wonder if John Lewis will get the e6500 back in stock?
