A NEW PAPER-CRAFTED MARIO ADVENTURE UNFOLDS ON NINTENDO SWITCH

Pre-Order and Recieve free origami sheets.

The kingdom has been ravaged by an origami menace! Join Mario and his new partner, Olivia, as they team up with unlikely allies like Bowser and the Toads to battle evil Folded Soldiers. Can you free Princess Peach’s castle from the clutches of King Olly in this comedy-filled adventure?

It’s tear-able! The devious King Olly has transformed Princess Peach into origami, uprooted her castle and sealed it shut with magical paper streamers.

Journey across the land – from scorching deserts to sailing the high seas – and recruit a revolving cast of wacky travel buddies, as you seek to sever these sinister streamers and save your paper pals from being turned into one of the Folded Soldiers!

NEW ABILITIES… AND NEW BATTLES!

Use the 1,000-Fold Arms ability to extend your arms to interact with the environment and solve puzzles. In battle, line up scattered enemies and plan your attack to maximize damage with the new, ring-based battle system that requires both puzzle-solving skills and a quick wit.

Mario faces one of his most thrilling challenges yet in Paper Mario: The Origami King when the dangerous King Olly unleashes his plan to fold the entire world. Just when matters couldn’t get worse, he’s bound Princess Peach’s Castle in giant, colored streamers and transported it to a distant mountain. He’s even transformed Bowser’s minions into Folded Soldiers and enlisted them in his treacherous cause.

Luckily, Mario is equipped with a range of new tools at his disposal to help secure victory. One of Mario’s new abilities, called 1000-Fold Arms, allows you to interact with the landscape by stretching out and pulling, peeling and revealing new locations, helping you to solve puzzles and uncover unexpected surprises. Along the way, you’ll enlist the help of characters old and new, such as King Olly’s good-natured sister, Olivia, along with a range of unlikely allies, including Bowser himself! If they haven’t yet folded to the whims of King Olly’s origami will, Mario will accept all the help he can find with open arms!

Paper Mario: The Origami King also introduces a new ring-based battle system that lets you flex your puzzle-solving skills to line up scattered enemies and maximize damage. While the enemies may be crafted from paper, these dynamic, turn-based battles are far from stationary. It’ll require a sharp mind to make short work of these crafty enemies.

This was a surprise. No idea it was coming out.

It was a surprise announcement. Exactly how game announcements should be done when the game’s gone gold and ready to release

I love it when they do this. Nintendo are actually quite good at keeping some things underwraps like this and then springing it.

I enjoyed the thousand year door back in the day, but I'm not sure paper Mario games justify this kind of price. I enjoy the art style, but it's not exactly taxing the system or telling stories in deep and thought provoking ways...

Maybe. But nothing's a given in the current climate and it's possible Nintendo will struggle to make enough copies. I've pre-ordered this just to be on the safe side.

Paper Mario and mainline Mario are totally different game genres (RPGs vs. platformers), so there's nothing wrong with that
Seriously need to see more combat before I lay my bucks down. I'm worried they've mucked it it up yet again because only showed a few seconds of combat footage, quickly cut away from it and it releases in 2 months time. As other people have said it's like they know people will be pee off so didn't show much of anything.

So hope I'm wrong because everything else looks top notch!

On another note seriously this site has taken what you can/can't say and the modding too bleeding far! Can't say the other word for drunk, you can't say the b word for men's genitalia in context not related to genitalia etc etc. Come on for christ sake!

EDIT: I can say christ? I can use christ in context not related to religion? Blimey. Wait I can also use blimey? Jeepers.

Under £40 isn’t that hard to achieve if you’re patient and wait for an offer, an eBay voucher code or a voucher code at one of the independent shops.

Maybe. But you'd need to be very patient I'd say. If this reviews well ( and I expect it to as Intelligent Systems usually deliver ), then it will sell at this price ( and more ) up to and over the release date. With potential stock issues, why would retailers reduce their margin ?
A brand new, well reviewed first party Mario title in the current climate will be very hard to find for £40 imo.

I don’t know. To be fair usually a game wouldn’t have been announced with two months to spare lol. Usually I’d have about six months in which case there’s bound to be a TheGameCollection 5% off code or an eBay code, and that’d get it below £40. I may be misremembering though, as I’ve probably had points that I’ve used on games e.g. at TGC

Yeah, there's a lot of different factors at play atm. This won't sell any where near that of Animal Crossing physical ( despite AC selling so well digitally ) but I suppose it's going to be down to available copies and how well the game is received.
What might be worth holding out for is around this price with extras like stickers, keyrings or a book. I'd be well up for some of that
pirate116/05/2020 11:30

stickers

Uh oh better be careful mentioning stickers in the same sentence as paper Mario, might rile some people up

In all seriousness, thanks for that idea. I might end up preordering from 365Games as I've got £2.50 in points which makes it around £40 which is my rule.
