That is a stupid and ignorant comment. So you really think that the Eurostar pricing is inversely linked to terror attacks. Stupid Troll.

Not surprised with the weak pound
It's generally much cheaper to fly from the NW, admittedly you still have to get to centres. But for example, a typical return fare from Manchester to Brussels is £24.98 with Ryanair.

Depends on how much it costs from Center to Manchester Airport and then Brussels airport to city center. Its often cheaper to have this Eurostar drop you in center of Bru or Paris.

True, although it's probably a lot cheaper than price from Manchester to London and back! For those living in London or nearby, this might be a relatively good deal though.

Is it? Prices normally reflect demand, and I can't imagine demand for trips to Brussels to be especially high these days. I'm not sure if you've been there yourself, but I was there a couple of months ago, and it stands as the single worst place I've ever visited.
Ooh good deal I did one of these and it is a nice trip

There are multiple worst places right here in England. Not sure where you went but there are some beautiful places in Brussels. The Grand Place, chocolate tour, nice restaurants, the portrait gazette also the mystery and belgian tour is pretty good. In fact the more I remember about the four trips (one this year) I made there, the more places comes to my mind. Where exactly did you go in Brussels?!?

I recommend everyone to visit Europe for the next two years because after 2019, the pound will be even cheaper against the Euros making it even more expensive plus getting there with visas etc will be more hassle. Leave the rest of the world post 2019.
Careful with Eurostar at Kings X. They'll claim they're overbooked on your scheduled train and try to put you on the next train at vastly extra expense.
Almost cheap enough just to go to Brussels just for lunch; moules et frites or maybe just some abbey beer and cheese. Mmmmm. Heat added.

Afaik you're only on the overbooking list if you have not been allocated a seat number. Then if someone with a seat allocated fails to turn up within 30 mins of the departure time, the seat is allocated to the overbooking list. If no seat can be released, then those who are overbooked have to wait for the next train (you agree to this when buying the overbooked/flexi ticket).

Not quite, for this price you could get lunch at a michelin starred restaurant in London.

Yeah it is, very stupid in fact. Visitor numbers to Paris are at a ten-year high.

That's a remarkably weak whataboutism to open with. "There are multiple worst places you've visited in another country where you don't live", what? But I digress.

Anyway, if you want to know exactly where we went in Brussels (at least on the first full day there), click on this. On the second day, we covered from the palaces out to the UN HQ, although I can't show you exactly where we went because my phone was stolen at the end of the first day. I absolutely agree that there are some really impressive things to see there, but it's all so heavily weighed down by just how much of a hostile dump large parts of the city have become. Kinda taints it a little when you're admiring some of the classic buildings and your view is obscured by the fiftieth anti-terrorism military patrol you've seen that day, don't you think?

Bruges is really nice. Brussels though, particularly the area around the South Brussels Station (an area so dense with pickpockets that our 3-star hotel wouldn't let us take our keycards out of the building, in case they too were stolen), is awful.

Hence why I posted. I felt you were being terribly unfair in your original post and I'm glad we've finally found some balanced view.

You sir, are fake news.
Where are these illusive tickets, I searched to the end of September and the cheapest I can find is £45

I see, I stand corrected. Apologies. Seems so dumb of eurostar to risk this kind of bad reputation though.

That Trip Advisor post isn't a good example of Eurostar being bad or evil or disingenuous regardless of whether you have an allocated seat or not.. Try getting on a plane when you arrive at a gate when boarding has closed.

if you read the ONE review it states "THEY WERE LATE". they dont overbook. they arrived with 27 minutes to go and you have to check in with over 30 minutes.
