For those who don't know, the clamp meter won't work unless you isolate the live wire , so don't clamp it around a normal 3 wire cable and expect it tell you the current draw.

It will work fine for the singular live wire for example. (edited)

I expect a few lidl customers will buy it to do exactly that and take it back as faulty when they don't get a reading.

I can't see an AC clamp meter being much use to most people.

Anyone who is after a DC Amp Clamp, for 12v car battery drain troubleshooting, the best/value one IMO is the Uni-t 210e - measures up to 100a DC draw via the clamp whilst the battery is connected up in circuit.

This lidl tool will not do that with the battery hooked up, and will have to be used 'in line' with the battery, much more effort/less accurate.

Doesn't measure much DC current for some reason my uni t can measure 100 A DC useful for car batteries charging and wasn't all that expensive

100A? presumably yours is a AC/DC (hall-effect) clamp meter, ut-210e perhaps? I nearly bought one when they were only £30.

This is a dual listing for a pen or clamp meter. The pen meter can measure a small amount of DC current, but the Clamp meter doesn't measure DC current either by the leads or clamp, which will be an AC only (current transformer) clamp. (edited)

It works great as a multimeter and the clamp is great for hanging it up in the shed, yes I know that’s not its real purpose but it works well.

Clamp it round your live tail on your CU and it will tell you the current current draw. Do the same on the Neutral and you can measure the Earth leakage. Boom. (edited)

It would need to read milliamps to do that, I'm
not sure it can.

As mentioned above this clamp meter will not measure DC current, I found out the hard way last year when I bought one without reading the specs, I needed it for my solar panel setup.
But it does read DC voltage with the leads so is still helpful in some ways for car electrics and solar installations.

AS stated above, invest in a uni-t. Available from aliexpress. Superb clamp meters and not expensive.
