Don’t know what the quality of this Lidl stuff is like, but I’d have it for the stand alone-would save me using clothes pegs and tape!
These are OK, but you can’t get spare bits for them.
Looks like a good deal but a shame it doesn’t mention the wattage.
Seems a good deal, however, no wattage and no way to get spare tips...
The stand with the holding arms is a nice touch though...

30w, price is good but the arms suck
Looks like one of those stupid irons where the tip is held in with a grub screw, after a while it works loose and falls out.

Thanks, that is a fairly universal size that will tackle lots of domestic tasks.

I'm not sure who these are aimed at. You can get a 30w or 40w Antex for about a tenner, and a Weller for a little bit more. No stand though. So I guess if it's going to spend most of its life in the stand, get the Lidl one, but if you're going to actually use it get an Antex.

Why not post what you recommend

Because this is supposed to be a "deal" site. Posting everything up at its normal price would be ridiculous, frankly.

Ah’ so frankly you can only jump on threads with criticism and advice yet fail to post anything better at the lowest price from any given retailer ?

No I don't think you get it. There's no point me posting the Antex iron (as the example in this case) because it's not a deal. Neither is the Lidl one. Something being in Lidl doesn't automatically constitute a deal if better equivalents are available for around the same price. Stop taking it so personally and don't blame me for your ignorance. If you want to spend £8 on a cr*p soldering iron instead of £10 on a decent one that's your choice, but I'm sure some people would appreciate the fact that better is available for a few quid more drawing to their attention before rushing off down the supermarket on the back of another one of your gushing Lidl posts.
Pointing out when a supposed deal isn't actually one is to the benefit of the greater good, no matter how much it deflates your ego.

These are aimed at the one job once a year market, for people like me who use soldering irons all day they are not temperature controlled enough.

Even so, why spend £8 on one you can't get spare tips for rather than a tenner one you can?

I’ll bet you money I could find a deal price for your antex iron thingy and with effort compared to elsewhere it’d do well on here.

The problem is you can’t or won’t but are happy to jump on other threads with criticisms with nothing to offer except your own biased advice.

It doesn’t stack up - my earlier comment gave you the perfect opportunity to post links to deals which you feel were better but NO you chose to argue the toss and continue with the normal crap of “ don’t take if personal “ cliches - I don’t take anything personal BUT suspect you do yourself with your biased self opinionated ideas on what people actually need.

If you can’t find something better even for a few pounds more and have the bottle to post it even in thread comments then shut up, why would anybody care what you think?
Chill guys, it's far too hot for armchair warfare.

The tips look as though they screw into the end of the iron, never seen this type of tip fitting so indeed probably difficult to get spares. The tips we use at work cost about £5 each and are readily available Weller spares, they are solid copper with an iron plating, using modern ROHS compliant lead free solder the temperature we need to set our irons to ranges from 350-390 centigrade. Tips without plating won't last too long but as this product is also used for wood burning this is not an issue and means this product could last many years if used for that. Our soldering stations cost about £400 but are used all day everyday , I owned an Antex 25watt mains powered iron for years and the tips are readily available even today. As has been said lets not get personal about this, life is too short to stress about f

You're still somehow missing the point @pennyfarthing88. What you're suggesting is tantamount to posting up the entire internet on HUKD. If I happen on that Antex iron for a fiver I'll post it up, because that would be a deal. A tenner is it's normal price, so it's not a deal. A Lidl soldering iron for two quid less isn't a deal. If I was to take your approach of posting up the entire Lidl tool selection every other week I could claim as many posted deals as you, but I have the gumption to know when something is a deal and when it isn't, so I don't. I really couldn't give a toss what people think, this is a deal site not my social circle.
