Parmesan Cheese - £1.70 for 200 g at Lidl...

I've just come back from Lidl in Camberley. Their 200 gram blocks of pre-packed Parmigiano Reggiano are reduced from £2.89 to £1.70. This is a proper offer and for some reason, isn't highlighted in their weekly newsletter. I bought three packs as it lasts for ages and tastes superb!
Just for comparison, I checked Tesco's website and their 200 g packs of Parmesan are £3.25 so well done Lidl!
PS - they also have brilliant offers on 1kg smoked/unsmoked gammon joints and fresh orange juice that aren't in the newletter either.

Good price, but what does 'proper offer' mean?

As opposed to a '30% off' offer because the item has reached its sell-by date. This offer has it's own label typical of Lidl's national offers.

As opposed to a misprice, I'm guessing.

Ah I see. I'll be popping down to Lidl then!

Does Aldi do anything like this...no Lidl near me

That is a great price and deal heated.

Uh oh, I love Parmesan but the price usually stops me consuming lots of it. This price is terrible for me waist!

Aldi Parmesan is the same 'normal' price as Lidl (£2.89 for 200 g)...

£8.50 Kg - very cheap. It's a decent Parmesan too.

Oh, there was a great offer in Lidl on Stilton cheese too. Can't remember what it was exactly but if memory serves, it was 41% off and about £1 for a fairly decently sized chunk. I like Stilton but the wife says it makes the fridge stink so I was forbidden for getting some...

Ours had this too (Coalville) - it was in a special 'local offers' brochure which runs till Thursday. Butter was 58p , £1 for stilton, £2.39 kg gammon and the 10 slice packs of bacon for £1.35. I assumed it was because the Aldi opposite is being extended and was therefore site specific. The always helpful lady on the till said it will be big reductions on the F&V next week.

You poor fella...

Haha! Joe90 you will have to promise to eat it up quickly and double wrap with cling film - after washing your hands to get rid of Stilton odour . . . . Will it be worth it? Yes if you really like it

Good offer! Been waiting for an offer like this thanks.

No on in our local

crappy crap, must be store specific just checked my local and it is full price

£2.89 at my local Lidl

Good deal and nice cheese. I'm not sure about the cheese lasting ages though. I've bought this before, kept it in the fridge and bits of mould have appeared within a couple of weeks. Anyone know if it's okay to grate and freeze it?

When I was staying in Italy I was advised by the locals to slice away the mouldy bit of the parmesan as the mould does not penetrate deep into the cheese as it is hard.

Where is it from? Last time I bought mozzarella there. Never ever Lidl. Sorry

You can freeze it, no need to grate it first, it still keeps a good texture if you freeze without grating.

The mould is on the surface only and not harmful. Scrape it off and use it. As the other poster said, the low water content in hard cheese doesn't allow for growth.

2.89 at my lidl too. cold!

Not at King's Lynn half hour ago, still £2.89

Heat added although I bought mine last week at full price...which is still one of the best prices around for Parmasan

Still at £2.89 in Bordon branch.

This morning I went Lidl in Blackwater which just down the road from the Camberley branch where I picked up the cheap Parmesan on Sunday. It's the normal price of £2.89. Likewise there's no cheap orange juice or cheap gammon joints. This must have been very localised deal. I'm expiring it now. Hope some of you managed to pick up some.

I process a whole block in a food processor, and freeze. You can use straight from the freezer then.
