The new AR.Drone 2.0 has just dropped in price to £242 - was £299 everywhere up until now. A great price for the brand new model (not the 1.0 version).

It's a remote control helicopter you control from your smartphone. Records video too. Huge range.

See here: youtube.com/wat…uFU

and here: youtube.com/wat…dEo

... for examples of what it can do.

Technical Details:
-------------------------

The Parrot AR.Drone 2.0 is an advanced ready-to-fly radio controlled quadricopter, suitable for operation indoors or outside

Steer the AR.Drone 2.0 by tilting a smartphone backwards or forwards, left or right, whilst using the autopilot to take off, hover and land

Includes a high capacity lightweight lithium polymer battery for long flights, plus a mains charger with international adaptors

Features horizontal and vertical video cameras for live streaming direct to your smartphone screen, plus a recording facility

The AR.Drone 2.0 requires an iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or similar approved Android touch screen device for operation (Not included)

Just what I always wanted, something that steady in the air with recordable surveillance. Now I could spy on my milf neighbour
Nice find, fancied one of these since seen on the gadget show but its rather an expensive toy. Anyone got one, what the video recording like on it can you capture still photos from the live video streaming it reportably streams to your device?
Can this be fitted with missiles?

Don't you think she might notice you bearing down on her with your tiny chopper?

From my research you are best capturing the video locally to a usb stick, then editing it afterwards. The video stream to your iphone/android is good enough to fly it with but not perfect quality due to wi-fi limitations.

The benefits of the 2.0 over the 1.0 model include the ability to steer it directionally no matter what way it's pointing (tell it to go left, it always does in relation to you rather than itself).

At £242 I'm seriously tempted. I wanted one at £299 but it was just that little too steep.

Voted cold. What average Joe really is going to spend that much money on expensive toy. People are just voting hot for the fun of it and putting jokes in the comments.

Or the fact that it is saving people around £50? Perhaps that's why it's being voted hot. It's not just a toy.

It's a lot of money, of course, but show me something that does what this does for the same price?

It's *expensive* but it's a great *deal* - especially if you want something that does what it does.

Now stop putting me off deciding to buy one ;-)

Unfortunately, it suffers from the same syndrome a lot of things from the states to the UK suffer from. Direct exchange £=$. this is $299 in the USA, so even though it is £50 less than advertised previously, it's still overpriced.

I agree, people are idiots for wanting to spend their money on something that you wouldn't want to spend your money on. And as for posting something thats £50 cheaper than elsewhere, well what kinda crazy ass idea is that on a deals website!

Sigh....
Agree, over priced crap. Might as well buy a petrol one than this, and would u really go out flying this round to record your house or field?
I think the smartphone control method is a stupid gimmick, it doesn't even work well with games never mind a physical object.

And what happens when you get a call.... "hello?" *vrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr BANG* "s*** i just lost £240 quid, let me call you back"

Wow look at the reviews most of the features are not inculded lol
Dont want it, just read it could be hijacked by some yankee students. Cold
just bought the first drone for 159 from amazon and broke the inside hull already (first crash) and cost £30 to replace. battery life is 20 mins. ish and costs £30 (you see a pattern forming) for an additional one. if you really want one of these i would buy second hand or buy the first drone and if you like it upgrade
also doesn't have the range to bomb afganistan..........even if i wanted to
which i don't

If you selected the Indoors mode, the autopilot will land the AR.Drone 2.0 automatically.

Save an extra £140 and get a Blade MQX. It uses a proper controller though instead of an IOS/Android device.

Money is relative, what is beyond your wallet maybe a cracking good deal to someone else who wouldn't miss the amount in the slightest.

Much the same here, £300 is a bit much but this price is a lot better although reading the US reviews there seem to be quite a few extras recommended particularly with the battery. The durability or lack of for the price is a concern as well.

Agree the Blade mQX RTF is a better option as it is cheaper both to buy and to operate as spares are more readily available and cheaper. If this peaks your interest in model helicopters then there are other models in the Blade range that have some parts overlap (transmitter and batteries) to save a little.

As usual, you have suffered the rookie mistake of not adding VAT. USA has different state taxes and therefore never includes the price including tax.
Just the thing for watching the lovely female neighbours sunbathing
