Not sure if this is a great deal or not but personally I find the options for spending Clubcard points are not that great these days so this might be a good way to use up those points on something you need anyway.

Exchange £5 points for a £15 voucher.

Vouchers can only be used against a MOT or Full Service (at the standard fixed centre menu price). They can't be used for repairs.

Why not? Well, to me it says that if you come in for an MOT or service, they know they are going to get their £15 back by finding something to sell or something that needs doing. Whereas a repair is agreed, so £15 eats into their profits.

Personally, I'd always go to a recommended local independent garage for an MOT, they charge the going rate for it, and rely on repeat business and word of mouth recommendations. Thats worth a lot more than a £15 voucher.

The best thing is to listen to them whine when you take in the vouchers - 'Do you know how much we get for these, about a third of the price'.

All out of sympathy.
Currently on their website it's £29 for an MOT, from what I've read if you use these vouchers you need to pay £54.99 as they cannot be used with any other promotion.

Still a good deal if you have loads of clubcard points to use. I've used Halfords for MOTs every year and never had a problem.

Yeah, but then you leave your car with them for a few hours... If they are unprofessional enough to whine, maybe they are unprofessional enough to do a shoddy job, or find something that merits an additional charge. Not saying they do. But, I wouldn't take the risk myself.
It was the manager who whined, the technicians were fine.
I used my vouchers few years ago on a major service, and regreted it. I've even been warned by a Halfords store manage not to use them, but too late for me; I had a terrible experience and was left doubting they'd done a thorough job. The centre I went to seemed to be run by ill diciplined youths. They seriously damaged my alloy while changing a tire, but in fairness they did own up to it and refurbished it, but it was a hassle. I take my (newish) car to a main dealer for a thorought job even though I'm paying more. I take my wife's car to a local garage where I get 1st class service at a very decent price. local garages do rely on their reputation.

Yeah, but if their boss says - "use this cheaper oil in that car", what are they going to do?
Wifey did this and ended up with a £200+ cash bill for "essential parts" not covered by the service/mot including spark plugs "without which it would fail the MOT". Bulls*** were my words but I didnt hear about it until i got home from work and she had already paid. They also charged her for brake fluid change and oil change which I would have thought should be covered by the service.

Turned out to be the most expensive service and MOT we've ever had.

AVOID!
Looks like a great deal until they MOT your car and more importantly your wallet!

Sorry, cold from me. Yes it's a deal, but it's not a new one and it doesn't expire. There are some good clubcard 3 for 1 deals on there but I agree with the others. There's nothing more expensive than a cheap MOT.
I've used Tesco vouchers for my MOT at Halfords 5 or so times. No problems, very efficient and car passed every time. Only slight downside is you have to over or underspend (£20=60 or £15=45), then pay the difference or receive no refund if the latter
Based on personal experience i would avoid. Told me I needed a new catalytic converter at £600 but it turned out to be just the manifold gasket that had gone. Saying that a local independant garage also tried it on with work that didn't need doing. But as said above I also found their attitude to be bad, making you feel like you shouldn't question their (questionable) knowledge.

I think it depends on the garage manager and perhaps their manager too. These chain places will set sales targets and probably award bonuses to staff/managers for hitting or exceeding them: some managers will give in to the temptation to make sure every customer spends a bit extra, this gives them a bit extra in their pay packet.
I'd never take a car for MOT at Halfords no matter what the deal. They're crooks, fail on BS reasons so they can charge you full price for a retest. I even think they may have broke something on my wife's car when she took hers to them a few years ago. I'd avoid them at all costs.
