Paypal currently have £30 off their chip and pin card reader, down from £75 to £45

But if you use code PAYPAL20 it will knock a further £20 off making it just £25.

Great way to take card payments for small sole traders, trades people, carboot sellers, trade fairs etc

Even kept as a backup for a normal terminal it's a great price to take card payments.

Yes fees are slightly higher than a traditional terminal. But you get instant access to the money, and there's no long terminal rental fees and the like.

Ordered mine last night and it's just been sent.

how do you set it up

How does the reader work? Does it need a Internet connection? What about power is it battery powered?

Found my own answer apparently it connects via Bluetooth and requires a smarts phone with paypal here app installed. Regarding batteries It has a recharged battery which can be recharged when it goes down. Don't know how long it will last untill a recharge at the moment tho.

Any downsides?

Well I suppose some might argue that PayPal is a more recognisable brand....not that I personally trust them though...too many issues. Also the £29 is plus VAT is that matters but you'd save that in the first few transactions. Other than that...No

Nice will jump on the tube and start taking wireless payments without people knowing

Are paypal cards commonly used? I've not seen anyone with one.

Paypal just processes the payment, the buyer uses Visa / Mastercard / Amex / contactless.

It processes all visa, Mastercard, also Apple and Android pay etc

Just like a card terminal in a shop

Just wanted to say that if you call PayPal and already have a moderate-high volume account, they will give it to you free - we got this. So you pay upfront and then when you have done more than the cost of the reader in transactions (e.g. £50 or 75) they will credit it back to you - while you do pay upfront you get it back later.

Good little machines, and this new one is better as the displayless one was hard to explain to customers but we found on both they run out of power within about a week when turned off so you basically need to charge them in advance before use or leave them on charge (as they take 15 minutes to regain enough charge to turn on, very annoying).

Many thanks OP !!

Great deal. Everything works. Just ordered mine. Thanks for sharing.

just when you think your outta luck.....I went and tried on the ipad and it finally worked. still haven't got my usual message from paypal seconds later confirming....starting to think if they'll even send them out now. fingers x

wow what you all using these things for? I thought cash was still king on the street corners and through car windows when making transactions of a dubious nature

I got me one. I get fed up of people telling me they got no spare change so I can get something to eat.

Ladies and Gentlemen.... I now accept cards!
