The fantastic (I've never played it, more of an assumption) Age of Empires: Definitive Edition releases on Tuesday and is priced at £14.99 on the UK Microsoft Store. Using a 500 RUB card from [HERE] you can purchase it from the Russia store for £5.57...happy days.

On your Microsoft account you will need to have a Russian address inserted and set to preferred address to redeem and purchase the game. To add the address in your address book go [HERE]

Here's mine...

All credit for Xbox over different regions is stored on the same account. Unlike PlayStation, one account covers everything and your account will show your various currency balances...

Can't seem to register on the Russian website for the Microsoft points. Every time I enter my details and click on register it just refreshes the page.
So shame that is not available on Xbox One. If Microsoft doesn't like release true exclusive games only on Xbox One because of Xbox Play Anywhere so Age of Empires should be part of it as well. Or maybe they don't understand what if exclusive game on console but on Windows yes.

Remember reading the devs didn't want to put it on Xbox. Same thing happened with Rise Of Nations. It's on the PC store with xbox live and Xbox achivements but not available on xbox.
Given the age of this amazed it isn't freeware

I'm not sure what you mean mate, there's no need to register, use your existing Microsoft account and the link I've provided. Everything else is in the OP.

You need to register to buy points from the Russian online code seller, there's a pop up saying automatic registration is suspended and that you need to contact them via their chat or something.

Fortunately I already had an account but if you don't it's a bit of a pain I guess.
Cool! Is this likely to get you banned or anything if you get sussed by MS?

Heat OP, I will definitely be getting this one, one way or another...

I assume it's in the same sense as buying Xbox games cross-region. Major Nelson has picked up on it, but obviously avoided direct answers, but the feeling is that it's frowned upon, but not bannable. After all, they clearly make it easy to store and access balances from different regions in your account.

Let's just assume they intend for it to happen

Might be a Web error. G2A also sell them : g2a.com/xbo…037
You can get to the registration form after you add something to your basket, but filling it out just takes you round in circles... Not sure if I'm breaking any criteria rules, it doesn't say

I'll try again tomorrow.
Is this the remastered 4K version?

No. Halo Wars 2 is a RTS game as well and it was released mainly for Xbox One.
Great game. Assyrian ballisters were crazy good. Loved the artwork. But I prefer aoe2 if only for being able to queue farms!
How does this differ from AOE2 HD edition on steam?

Man... I spent my entire childhood on this game
Hmm, I'd really like this but I don't know if I want to go to this much trouble, especially with ppl reporting checkout issues too. Could end up buying a load of Russian credit I can't use if it won't let me checkout but it sure looks nice, especially for a RTS though...
Meant to add, is there any prospect of this reaching game pass with the announcement that Gamepass will get all first party titles or is that only for Xbox and cross play games?

It's not just a resolution update, they have redone all the models and terrain. Looks great!

Halo wars 1 and 2 had serious limitations due to the fact they were played with a controller though. RTS games always have been better on a pc than console. You just can't emulate mouse controls well on a pad. It's possible to bring age of empires to console yes (with a hell of a lot of work) but honestly I would never want to play it on a controller. Cross play wouldn't even be worth considering lol pc would absolutely demolish anyone on a console.
Got this last night. Like others the link in the OP didn't work for me. So I had to settle for G2A didn't really want to go that rout but I took the risk. Refused to pay for G2A Shield and the 500 RUB cost me around £6.50. Code worked fine and have purchased and installed the game with no issue.

Edit: Showed my friend this deal as well. He bought his credit from here: mtcgame.com/en-…-ru he got his his code not to long after his order at the cost of £6.57 they also accept paypal as payment.

I use to play RTS games on 360 all the time. Including Command & Conquer and LOTH Battle For Middle Earth and Supreme Commander. Playing on a controller is fine. Yes using a mouse and keyboard if much better. But using a controller is not to bad. With PS4 and I believe Xbox now also supporting K&M I don't see why we don't get more RTS games on console.

I've bought and added the ruble to my MS account, changed region to russian and when I go through it still asks for payment method via card/mobile. Is this to be expected, I don't want to get double charged for this.

How did you manage to add it to your basket on the microsoft store website? It only tries to open up the Microsoft store app for me when I click on the preorder button on the russian website.
I added it seperately via redeem a code on the Russian web MS store

Edit: After setting language to russian via xbox app on android...

I do have a debit card and paypal account linked to my microsoft account. So you might have to but don't worry it will ask you your payment method at checkout. Just select account balance.

On your PC go into settings. Go to time and language and then region and language. Select Russia as your region. Now open the Windows 10 store app and search for Age of Empires. Select buy now and follow the purchase steps.

Once it's done it will start to download. Cancel the download and close the store page. Change your region back to UK in the settings. Open the store and select My Libary in the top right corner and find age of empires and download it.

Anyone know anywhere else that sells the 500 RUB needed to do this for a price that still makes this worthwhile? the G2A link is now OOS and I don't fancy dealing with a Russian site and having to translate each page (and hope the translation is right) if I can help it...

My friend used this place last night. A bit more than what the original deal is but still a lot cheaper than the UK store.

mtcgame.com/en-…-ru

Gets good reviews on Trustpilot.

Thanks, I have just saw your message earlier in the thread and used them now. They wanted me to verify phone number, which I have just done, now waiting for my code to come through, bit concerned as it's been at least 10 minutes now and nothing (the phone no verification was instant).

I didn't register an account as it didn't ask me to but now wondering if I should have since without an account I can't check on my order status, just assumed they would email it over after I paid.

Not too worried about my money as I used paypal so if they try to scam me I am pretty sure I could open a case and pull the money back but would miss out on the game, which I really don't want....

Came through, all done, downloading now, phew!

Good to hear you got it sorted. My friend didn't mention anything about phone verification. Maybe it's for first time buyer? I know CDkeys do this for first time buyers.
Just FYI this has taken me all day to buy , sigh. When you order from Windows PC you have to go into settings, time and language and change location to Russia on your actual PC install. Thank god managed to work it out
I've ended up paying about £7.60, bloody exchange rates, but I'm sure it'll be worth it! I'm surprised it's not on Steam? I'm guessing there's a perfectly valid reason...

Heat OP! It'll be like 1997 all over again in my house. I'm hoping this'll tide me over until Age of Empires IV
