Great game, quite possibly the best COD ever made, certainly up there. Still looks and plays remarkably well for it's age too, bargain!
I prefer CoD4 and WaW over MW2, but I probably played MW2 more out of any of the CoD's that exist, personally I love it's third person mode, practically all I ever played.
My son plays two Call of Duty games: Black Ops and Advanced Warfare; are these games more or less advanced than Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2? I ask because it would be nice to surprise him with something good when he comes home on Wednesday, but I don't want to get him something that would be dull compared with what he has already.

MW2 is a game born in an era of innovation from Infinity Ward that you don't see much in their later games, it's also more simplistic and bare-bones which allows you just to enjoy the moments without constant chaos that forces you to press respawn every 10 seconds. Depending on his age he might either love this title in the CoD series or turn his nose up at it, as far as most fans are concerned, after this game is when CoD started to go down hill chasing its own tail.

I'd say got for it, but if he likes the chaos and over-the-top action that the modern CoD's bring to the table, maybe go for one of the new Black Ops titles or MW3. In terms of graphics, they all pretty much look the same.

I'd say that it's a bit of a gamble as to whether he'll like it, especially if he seems to be playing more of AW. AW came out 6 years after MW2, so it is a lot better graphics-wise. Additionally, AW introduced new movement mechanics, making the game much more fast paced in comparison to previous CODs, hence making MW2 seem somewhat slow in comparison. This game is worth a shot at just over £4, but if he gravitates towards AW over BO, you may want to get him either Black Ops 2 or Black Ops 3 instead

Other than the graphics part, I completely agree. Back to Othen, this will either make things easier or harder for you, lol.

opiumpulses.com/pro…e-3 - £5.15
opiumpulses.com/pro…sts - £5.12
opiumpulses.com/pro…ops - £5.08
opiumpulses.com/pro…-ii - £9.37
opiumpulses.com/pro…iii - £23.95

You didn't state what Black Ops game he played so I listed all three, grabbed the prices just in case you're on a budget.

... god I'm bored.
Thank you so much guys, I have just checked his gaming PC and he has:
Black ops II
Black ops II Multiplayer
Black ops II Zombies
Advanced Warfare
Advanced Warfare Multiplayer
From what you have said it looks like there would be little point getting the Modern Warfare game for him, but perhaps Black Ops III would be sensible? We downloaded the other games from Steam, I am guessing I could purchase Black Ops III from the same place? I have no idea how to play any of the games, but downloading software is easy enough (I remember these were large programs though).
Many thanks,
Alan

... okay, another question.
I have just had a look at my son's Steam account and it would seem that Black Ops III costs £39.99, would the version you quote above (http://www.opiumpulses.com/product/791/call-of-duty-black-ops-iii) play under Steam? I suspect this may appear as rather a daft question to seasoned gamers, but I don't know anything about the games, I'm just a dad ...
OK I've a Lenovo Thinkpad T420 - i5 2450M CPU, Quad Core 2.5GHz, 6GB RAM, Intel HD3000 Graphics. Can I run this? I've Googled it but there seems to be a lot of conflicting information.

Yes, should do - the site has Steam listed on the product page.

That sounds like a good choice imo being the most recent CoD release (although obviously more than 5x the price of the deal in this post). Only thing to be aware of is that there have been some issues reported with the PC version so it might be worth double checking if they've been resolved/ if the game works with your son's PC specification.

Yeah, redeems on Steam. Wouldn't be any different to paying on Steam, only cheaper

Good luck, glad we could help you make a more informed choice for your son. I sense Dad of the year presents for Christmas.

I think that was patched recently, if you're on about the i5 issues. If not then yeah I'm not sure either.
Can you use an xbox pad with this?
This still playable online? Or has it been hacked completely to be unplayable?

If you're talking about MW2, you'll be absolutely fine, the game is well optimised and has low requirements:

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 3200+ processor or better supported
Memory: 1 GB RAM
Graphics: 256 MB NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT or better or ATI Radeon 1600XT or better

If you mean Black Ops 3, minimum listed on Steam is:

Processor: Intel® Core™ i3-530 @ 2.93 GHz / AMD Phenom™ II X4 810 @ 2.60 GHz
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 470 @ 1GB / ATI® Radeon™ HD 6970 @ 1GB

I know they've patched the issues with i5 processors, so you should be sorted there. Other than that, looks as though you'd be able to run it, just probably not on any high settings.

Still plays online, probably the main reason it's so expensive outside of rare sales.

It was MW2. Thanks for your help. And thanks for the deal OP. Loved this game on Xbox 360!

I've done alright before...more wanted to know if it's supported native rather then via xpadder etc as bought cod 4 and it wasn't!
Best one of the series.
I heard a rumour that this would be remastered for PS4. I really hope so, I know the maps like the back of my hand - probably better than I know my local area! I even know where to they sell duty free fags in Terminal and where the off-license is in karachi lol
Many thanks again. The Optimum Pulses worked and I was able to buy the game for $33 (about £23, it was more convenient to pay in USD), I've just put the code into my son's Steam account and it is downloading. I noticed this is a 46.5 GB download, so it will take 17 hours!!!!
Best wishes,
Alan

PUnkbuster is no longer supported on this game so many servers don't offer it due to you having to downgrade the version which is too much effort. There are some servers on there that have their own moderation team, but as you can imagine they are not always online. Such a shame for such a great game.

Tl;dr: Some hacker free servers still exist, may take time to find.

Using a game pad provides less of a difference the more recent the COD game. Reason being is that newer or "weaker" players are more likely to be playing the newer releases in comparison to the older ones

Hmm interesting, I hadn't heard anything about this. Would be very easy for the developer to put out as with the settings at max at 1080P it still looks surprisingly good for a 6+ year old game so it wouldn't even need all that much remastering IMHO. Still I could see that controversial airport stage getting chopped altogether, even on the PC version you have the option to skip, which is fair enough. It's a weird stage anyway as you have pretty much no control for most of it, I know COD is linear by nature but that stage takes it to the extreme....

That said no one should play a COD game not expecting to see graphic content, people need to realise some games really are strictly adult only and COD with GTA etc is right up there.

Agreed. My favourite two for multiplayer without doubt. Black Ops 1 for campaign.
Can anyone confirm if this has native controller support, like Black Ops 1?
Thanks bought this last night. Game runs great and immediately got put into full server of TDM, plenty of people playing.

Update: have seen 1 or 2 cheaters, both had VAC bans on other CoDs, so not long until they banned entirely I hope. VAC seems to pick them up within a few hours. Still worth it for this price.
