I was thinking World Cup, then I started to think Football Manager, and then naturally, Championship Manager sprung to mind, more notably the 01/02 season.

Have I been living under a rock? This game is actually still being updated with quite an active community on champman0102.co.uk with their latest update released in March of this year. Seriously, I take my hat of to them.

These are the changes since their last update in August of last year...

  • All transfer and squad list data available on transfermarkt.com now in the database
  • this means all clubs within a league system on the above site have all the players that were at the club a week after the transfer window closed (16.02.2018)
  • All the values on the above site have also been used to generate World Reputation and wages for all players (wages are obviously adjusted to suit CM0102, not real life wages)
  • All contracts are the same as the above site
  • Other additions include correct first and second nationalities, date of births, caps and goals & squad numbers
  • Reserve sides has increased to 79
  • nearly half a million Player Histories added to the database
  • new default 343 tactic added
  • International Caps and Goals added for current top 75 nations
  • Scouting Forum updated
  • 1000's of players with attributes added
  • Managers of main leagues playing correct formations
  • Current Reputation of main leagues updated to have correct players selected

You can download the CM 01/02 game file from the 'Get Deal' button above, and there are instructions to install the update file in the March 2018 data Update link above, or if you can't be bothered to scroll back up (fair enough) it's here

This has been posted before, and credit to the guys who've shared it with us, but I was genuinley shocked that it's even still being touched, credit to champman0102.co.uk for sure

I dare not download this, I'd get nothing done for weeks.
This takes me back to my childhood days, brilliant game! Heat added.

I was amazed thinking it was developer support, but still really impressive for the community to keep it going. I reckon 1st party support on an old football title for the world cup would be excellent. Imagine if they went back to the first FIFA World Cup game (98) and added a 2018 update, would definitely get people talking. Thanks for sharing!

I've altered the title as it read a bit misleading, the download is from Eidos but via FMScout. But yeah, that's some fantastic work from the people over at champman0102.co.uk
Well that's my schedule out the window
Bring back Fm live

Still by far the best version of the game (including FM). It hits just that right balance between speed, depth and ease.

Sure, they've tried to implement similar versions with the mobile / touch games but CM01/02 is far better than any of them. Runs like an absolute beast on modern PC's.

Been playing this for a few years now as I stumbled across it previously when its been posted on hukd, I prefer this version of the game as its more simple and you can get through seasons quicker. I've had a few issues with bugs where saved games won't load but as its free and individuals have put a lot of work into it I'm not going to grumble. Also on reddit someone has made it possible to play on tablets.

Do you have the link?
Does it work on Mac?

I'll grab me ST from the attic!
Will this work on mac too?

Tried those few years back and the editing isn't that great I don't think... I'd recommend the mobile version of football manager if your after this kind of experience
The original Champ Man games were the best as they were actually fun rather than the current ones which are more like using Microsoft Excel!
I'd say 02/03 was even better on the xbox, but is inconvenient to use with the controller.

ah, the days of Everton using CM as a scouting tool,
and ending up with Ibrahima Bakayoko
Swedish national youth squad
This is crazy. Can't believe this is still getting updates. 01/02 season when Leeds United had a quality team. Those were the days!
is this the one with Daniel Braathen? Absolute goal machine

Wonder if this works on Mac...
Wow! I cannot remember which was my fave version of "champ"... and I don't think I have this version in my steam library. Presume I bought it on CD/DVD back then? Wow...

I did like the move to 3d graphics. I don't like all the micro managing of contracts.

Just like buying/selling players, tactics, watching the matches.

Really impressed they updated the files!

I used to get updates from various websites but then they seemed to get harder and you were encouraged to just buy the annual update.

I've not played it in a couple of years since getting Liverpool to win the Premier League 3 seasons in a row and runners up in the Champions League Final 2 seasons in a row - losing to Real Madrid both times! I couldn't be bothered to play another season just for that one grudge match! How apt...!

Ole Kim kallstrom!

In the really old games.. players were reincarnated! Just wait for Georgie Weah to retire and then sign the youngest new striker from Liberia

And Kennedy Bakircioglu, or Zlatan Muslimovic (joint Swedish).

Not sure but the insane unknown goal machines in this version were Maxim Tsigalko and To Madeira, although the latter was found to be a made up player and removed in later patches ^^
Bizarre. I was just thinking about this game this morning and whether the community were still updating it.

Turns out they are! Thanks for the heads up.
I remember I sold viera for 79million by putting his value to 0 then putting up the value when I got a bid
Back when Manchester City were in the third league tier
Mido!
If you're into 80s/90s football, it's worth checking out the 1989/90 season 'update' for CM01/02 too. Great fun!

I remember receiving a free disc of the 92 season, hooked, until the new ones came out and were over complicated with tactics and Ronaldo having his bad attitude, chairman always vetoed the transfer.
My fav CM was 97/98. Thanks for sharing OP

Ronaldo in 92? I think he only made his debut in 93.
So Arsenal got 800k to spend. Sounds about right lol
Oh man what a classic. Anyone know if there's a patch for Premier Manager 2002 that was also a gem. I loved these old manager games I miss the slimline feel of them. The new one's are far too much in depth it's hard to just pick up and play.
