How much is a 1080 worth though?
According to HUKD, less than £365

is this a solid machine to get for your first gaming pc?

The one you linked?
Sure, it's very capable; lower end of top-tier.

Very good deal for a nicely built machine. Oveclockable, excellent cooling, 2tb drive has 8gb cache, in addition to the SSD. Built like a tank and also quiet.

Still on Amazon for £1600.

yeah the one I linked.. thanks for confirming, wasn't sure if it would have been cheaper to build one from scratch or just get the one in the link.

i5-6600K + motherboard: Worth ~£250 (when compared to a Ryzen 1600x, or i5 8400 substitute).
16GB DDR4 £100
2TB £50
250GB SSD £50
GTX 1070 £350
Good 650W PSU £45
Comparable flashy case ~£40

~£900
You get a Windows license thrown in there too, but you're paying £50 over the odds for the GTX 1070 due to the inflated market price atm.

It's a fair deal.

If you run the numbers on the RX480 system I linked, it's an insane discount.
Not sure about the 1080 system @CAL23 linked to, as I'd never spend £1k on a machine - too high up the performance/cost curve.

It really depends what resolution you intend to play games at;
1080p, save your money for a future upgrade and get the RX480 machine.
1440p (or VR), get the 1070 machine.
4K (or 144Hz), get the 1080 machine.

You got yourself a bargain for sure! I would buy it myself but I would prefer a laptop. Also broke my phone yesterday so might need to spend money on that instead
