What we saying? Three days before the beta of EA's sequel to their 2015 marmite release and Disney have now resurrected the online servers for the 2005 classic Battlefront II.

  • PLUS Improved Online Features - Engage in massive online battles with multiplayer action for up to 64 players. Play five different online game modes including Conquest, Assault, one-and two-flag Capture the Flag, and Hunt.

It's currently around £6 everywhere and I can't really see the price dropping much now that the servers are active again. £3.19 and the Gog.com version is cross play with the Steam servers.

With space combat, playable Jedi characters, and over 16 all new battlefronts, Star Wars™ Battlefront™ II (Classic, 2005) gives you more ways than ever before to play the classic Star Wars™ battles any way you want.

  • Enhanced Single-Player Experience - Join the rise of Darth Vader’s elite 501st Legion of Stormtroopers as you fight through a story-based saga where every action you take impacts the battlefront and, ultimately, the fate of the Star Wars galaxy.
  • All New Classic Trilogy Locations - Fight inside the corridors of the second Death Star, in the marshy swamps of Dagobah, and even aboard the Tantive IV, Princess Leia’s Blockade Runner, as seen at the beginning of Star Wars™ Episode IV: A New Hope.
  • More Classes and Vehicles - Now choose from six distinct soldier classes, plus bonus hero characters for each of the four factions: Rebels, Imperials, CIS and the Republic. Then jump into more than 30 diverse ground and space vehicles, including the clone BARC speeder, AT-RT and new Jedi Starfighter and ARC 170.
  • PLUS Improved Online Features - Engage in massive online battles with multiplayer action for up to 64 players. Play five different online game modes including Conquest, Assault, one-and two-flag Capture the Flag, and Hunt.
  • Fight as a Jedi - Earn the ability to wield a Lightsaber™ and use Force™ powers like Yoda, Darth Vader and many other heroes and villains.
  • Battle in Space - Dogfight in X-wings, TIE fighters, Jedi starfighters and other classic starcraft, or land your ship on a Star Destroyer and fight it out on foot aboard enemy ships.
  • Play 16 New Locations - Battle across Star Wars™: Episode III: Revenge of the Sith environments such as Utapau, Mustafar and the epic space battle above Coruscant.

I'm not seeing any Tauntauns listed under 'diverse ground and space vehicles' - but voted hot anyway.

still better than the 2015 version

The gameplay can't be compared to the modern ones. The modern ones suffer from dire gameplay, the originals from the early to mid 2000's were the golden age of Star Wars games, amazing gameplay. The modern ones just have the graphics, but graphics don't make a game.

Buzz I w0uldn't rush to buy it yet wait til they iron out the problems forts

So they dont continue to run the servers for game fans to play on but they'll start up the servers to promote a new game?

How kind.

No, the 2005 game used GameSpy for servers, which is a service that has since shut down. Now GOG has patched the game they sell and put the patch on Steam (for anyone who already bought it there) so there can be crossplay between GOG and Steam-bought copies of the game in multiplayer. This means anyone who bought the game from either vendor now or in the past can play online for the first time in years!
The BattleFront II game was an excellent STAR WARS reworking of the BattleField game formula.

This has no affiliation with EA Games' steaming bantha turd released in 2015. The OP was incorrect about this having anything to do with EA or Disney.
Good Old Games (GOG.com) have done this; see here: SW: BattleFront II

"There has been an awakening... have you felt it? STAR WARS Battlefront II (Classic, 2005), the critically acclaimed shooter of massively entertaining warfare, has received a critical update. Powered by GOG Galaxy, the multiplayer function of the game has now been restored AND with added Crossplay support between GOG Galaxy and Steam to boot."

I have this on steam already so it looks like i am sorted.

Bought, cheeps OP.

Have this on my Steam library, might have to relive the good old days

how good/bad is this ????

I think I have this through a humble bundle, should work fine online?

I wonder how long GOG will keep the servers running. It's a bloody great idea however long it lasts anyway.
