EDIT 2: Back at £4.99

XCOM 2 is the sequel to the 2012 Game of the Year, award-winning strategy game, XCOM: Enemy Unknown.

Earth has changed. Twenty years have passed since world leaders offered an unconditional surrender to alien forces and XCOM, the planet's last line of defense, was left decimated and scattered. Now the aliens rule Earth, building shining cities that promise a brilliant future for humanity on the surface, while concealing a sinister agenda below and eliminating all who dissent from their new order.

Only those who live at the edges of the world have a margin of freedom. Here, a force gathers once again to stand up for humanity. Always on the run, the remnant XCOM forces must find a way to rise from the ashes, expose the insidious truth behind the occupation, and eliminate the alien threat once and for all.

Yeah Story is barely related! Some reference to old stuff but doesnt really matter!

Yeah missions are more varied and don't need to worry about spaceship defense so this should be easier to get into

Anyone got any tips, I played through the first but iam finding this one so hard, even the first level or two on easy
Is this more accessible than the first? First one I find has far toocmany variables in place and I feel like it's easy to mess your game up

You have to be faster due to some time limits. Always get the base level up to allow you to increase squad size quickly. Then take one ranger who has conceal so he can just sneak on them not detected
Purchased, many thanks!
Great game, lots of free mods to download on Steam for expansion. Many, many hours of addictive fun.

damn i didnt know this . i really enjoyed the 1st game largely due to the exact reason there were no time limits.

most people really enjoyed the 1st one, and I did too! but I really struggle to go back and play it now.

All of the mods that you can easily get from the Steam Workshop just make the game highly repayable and you can tailor the hell out of it!

I really enjoyed the enemy within expansion of the first one as you fought other humans as well as the aliens. There are still some great missions in 1... The one with all the sectopods?

If you wait long enough I am sure you can get 1 really cheap in random sales. And it ia low powered so would be able to play on a cheap laptop when travelling where as xcom 2 required a beefier set up. So I would get it when on sale and call it an expansion pass!

Yeah the old camping overwatch cheat was beaten by timed missions. So the way to counter that is using an ranger who is still in cover to scout the enemy for your snipers and grenadiers or to just get to the mission objective quickly and safely eg hostage. So you lead with him and let the others follow.

I only come undone if my scout is detected when enemy walks near him. But otherwise he can stay out of the fire fights undetected while the others battle. That is why larger squad is key

You can grab a mod to relax the timer limits in missions - adding 2 or 4 turns I believe is a decent compromise. Some of the timers add to the atmosphere really well - you'll get a cool war story out of it (I like to add a bit to the soldier biography after something like that).

If you buy the dlc, absolutely don't turn off the Alien Hunters missions - they will drop in without being triggered by the mission you can avoid if you'd left them on. My campaign might've been on hold since I found that out
Looks like a dogs nose
It's now £3.99! BARGAIN
This has to be the best deal on a game for a very long time. Just get it.

Probably best to play the first one. The time limits make this very challenging even for a seasoned XCOM player - I have played the complete series of earlier versions for windows - much much longer and more complicated. The first modern one, XCOM:EU does not have the time limits so you can explore and experiment more.

Nonsense, XCOM2 is a far better game for newcomers. The beginning of XCOM:EU can be brutal (see:not fun) for new players.

XCOM2 gives you quicker access to better and a larger variety of weapons. XCOM:EU forces you to play with 40% chance, 2-3 dmg rifles for 2-3 hours and the aliens are much quicker to cause havoc around the world and disrupt progress.

I had been living under a rock and hadnt played the first one until a few months ago. Bought it for under 2 quid and enjoyed the hell out of it so I dont see no reason not to start with the first. Once you complete it you have XCOM 2 to look forward to Problem is finding the first one cheaper than this!

Absolute bargain at this price, I instantly bought it. The "first" one was brilliant and I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. Wasteland 2 Directors Cut also has a similar combat to this game, mixed with the rpg freedom of the first Fallout games, highly recommend it if you like XCom
