About the Hotel & Area

HISTORY

The Charles Cotton Hotel dates from the early 17th Century and ouse’s warmth, charm and character. The interior decor reflects the legacy of Charles Cotton himself and he would have approved of the fine artistry depicting his beloved Derbyshire home.
Famous for fishing ( he co-wrote “The Compleat Angler” with his good friend Isaac Walton); poetry and gambling!

The Charles Cotton Hotel sits in the lush valley of the River Dove in Derbyshire

  • It is in the village of Hartington, which is renowned for its blue cheeses and its links with poet and writer Charles Cotton, after whom the hotel is named
  • Arbor Low, a 4,000-year-old Neolithic stone circle in the East Midlands, is 10 minutes' drive away, and Dovedale National Nature Reserve's famous stepping stones are a 20-minute drive
  • The hotel is also 20 minutes' drive from spa town of Buxton -- "a confection of Georgian terraces, Victorian amusements and parks" (Lonely Planet)
  • Three cycling and walking routes pass within 10 minutes' drive of the hotel -- the 13-mile Tissington Trail, the 17-mile High Peak Trail and the 8-mile Manifold Way Cycle Trail
  • Chatsworth House is 25 minutes' drive from the hotel

Try the 6-mile Hartington walk starting in Hartington village, which descends gently into Beresford Dale. Follow the winding River Dove, then walk through Wolfscote Dale and a designated National Nature Reserve, home to a variety of butterflies.

Not as good as you think. You have to buy a voucher and then book with hotel, which is then subject to availability. Go direct to the hotel and it's £90 (for dates I was after in March) for a double and the suite was fully booked (no bottle of prosecco and checkout at 11am instead of 12).
I personally would just book direct.

the family room I just checked was £240 direct and £130 with this offer.
but I agree you can't even book it until the 10th January as its closed. so you could be loaning travelzoo £99 for 2 weeks.

still a hostel
17th Century = mice NO THANKS!
Sounds awesome, well done OP
went late summer same offer we got the 2 nights b&b for £99 and regardless its 17th Century it was an amazing stay would recommend just the area your in is so chilling. And yes the Hostel only up the hill we too ate a meal in there. and let me say how very warming they were to us. No problems at all and it was very clean again would recommend.
Stayed a few years ago on similar deal - lovely location and building. One of best pub meals ever had! Great local Hartington beer on tap. Not much in village (tea rooms, antiques shop, cheese shop, General Store, nice gift shop, duck pond - an hour and you have done it all, slowly!)
But great for base - Buxton is one of my favourite towns, Bakewell & Ashbourne nearby. Makes for a great weekend.
Liked it so much went back for a pre-Christmas weekend year before last.
no answer all morning trying to book.. supposed to be open today or so i thought.
Same here, either engaged or ringing out, not very professional!
Bought and tried to call about 8 times over three days including days that they say they are back. No luck so cancelled and got refund. If they dont want my money I will take it somewhere else
finally got through and booked up.
